Its going to be very tough trying to make a ' good chunk' trade to trade or retailing , if you get bargains you're a lucky man , most people want within reason ' market' values for cars so making a 'reasonable ' profit trading or better profits retailing. You'll need the volume and quality if you're going to survive the trading game. Personally I'd retail and specialise in something or get known for quality cars , make a name for yourself with that comes 'better' margins ..! Good luck - seep us posted

lot of politics involved with claims, we tend to use genuine parts to avoid any issues later on - just in case [ Also found in majority of cases the genuine parts are actually cheaper than non genuine anyway] I do find it quite strange that some customers spend £30/35k on a new car then take it to Kwik fit [ Nothing against Kwik fit ] But why would you ?

umesh replied to jimreidvehicle's topic in General Dealer Chat
I think most of us have been thinking facebook is for kids , but its amazing looking at the results that I hear about about ! a lot cheaper than any other platform , as Jim has said its not just about blasting stock on there its about cleaver marketing of the stock and targeting !- 5 replies

Hello! Newbie searching for best practice when sourcing stock
umesh replied to Cartraderlincs's topic in General Dealer Chat
Hi Noel, Welcome back to the trade! WOW Lots of things have changed , a tough market you're aiming for , as you saying buying these cars is difficult , I don't use auctions but I have so many people telling me the same story as you, the prices these cars fetch no profit left. A Lot of main dealers these days have an auction policy and some that do trade directly probably have established relationships with other traders, saying that I'd personally pop in and make yourself known - That is if you can manage to get to speak to the sales manager/ DP/ GM Who ever is in charge of disposals. - Probably a smaller / owner driver Main dealer as opposed to a big group or Plc. Good luck - keep us posted of your progress -
Not in anyway knocking DVLA , The new on line system is great , works very well, no hassle , retentions on line all good but no wonder so many cars are getting caught with ' no tax' when they are taxed. Here's an example : This morning we MOT'd a car and taxed it on line at about 9.30 ish , printed the confirmation for tax like I do every time. Just curious I checked the status on line to see what it said according to DVLA ' Check if car is taxed' ( See Attached) Not Taxed & No MOT ! Now I thought it all updated ' instantly' obviously not ( Although it says if MOT'd within last 5 days it may not show ? why not? ) but then if it hadn't updated the MOT side I couldn't have taxed the car as it had expired ! I guess I could easily get caught out ( or my customer) if they drove down the road .

Welcome on board - Probably the easiest is to go direct to the FCA website http://www.fca.org.uk/ It explains in detail exactly what is required from you to enable you to offer any finance. Hope it helps? umesh

Totally agree with both Jim and Philip , Like them I have met and still meeting lots of people in all different business, I have done a lot of business with people/ companies I've met via twitter and Facebook. Al ready been said but its the old story but you only get out of anything what you put into it. For me I would be definitely be lost without it .. these are great tools that i feel benefit many business/ people and they are FREE !

The Market Survey - For Dealers, By Dealers April 2015
umesh replied to Philip Nothard's topic in General Dealer Chat
Philip, Always good to see the results and variance throughout the country ! Great stats and always appreciated. -
Hi Jack, Just because you've never sold at this price range doesn't mean you can sell it yourself , I do understand about big capital being tied up, couple of option I guess is ATM and see if you can get a sensible bid, call a couple of ford dealers or if you can afford to stand it in to stock market it cheaper than motorpoint / or ford dealers and you'll retail it quicker than them . Good luck

I thought I'd spotted a printing mistake this morning on the retention form (V317) How wrong was I !! It transpires the old retention fee of £80 + £25 is old new ! Great news the retention is same as transfer fee - just £80.. Came into force March 9th 2015 ! A great story but DVLA kept it quiet ... or have I been asleep !
