im sick of badly worded txts offers and no shows

    why dont people phone anymore

People have not been shown how to use the phone anymore they only use fingers and thumbs and no longer understand the 'art of conversation' !

  2. I ran an Audi A6 1.9 Tdi Avant (1998) up to 278, 000 miles , I used to use it as a loan car  as well - none of the customers could belive how well it looked and drove ... sadly was coming to end of its life with the Air con compressor making a noise and front wings just starting to bubble ...still fetched £1000 and on its way to I belive Romania ( that was 2007/8 ish )

  3. Strange situation I tripped across couple of days ago and just want to make sure you are not affected !
I check on & off on Autotrader to make sure ALL my cars are advertised and if they look OK etc etc …
Spotted couple of days ago only 28 Advertised from 38 … spoke to my account manager who’s currently still checking whats wrong ..
resent all the cars back live on dealer portal over night feed all cars OK – Morning feeds somehow deletes some of the stock ..
this morning 32 advertised out of 38 ….
Issue still not resolved – Technical dept looking into it but as I’ve explained to my account manager – doesn’t help me as cars not being advertised !

So- guys and girls just keep an eye on it , this may just be an isolated case !

    Better to check !

  4. I do wonder and I've mentioned this on various forums ! I always follow up these leads be it AT , Cargurus , motors etc etc .. but hardly ever, ever do any deals and as for response back - to emails, phone calls, voicemail's -once in a blue moon ! Like you i do wonder why they don't simply call IF they are genuinely interested in buying / dealing on the car car you have?? ' A great mystery' !

If you don't respond to them professionally the I guess you don't stand a chance anyway !

  5. Had one quite a few years ago who bought an A6 Avant quattro which I had owned for 2 years and one owner previous to me I had known the car from new, lives 200 miles away from me - Calls me and sends me email telling me gearbox is knackered wants me to pay in full  £6k, his mate is an auto gearbox specialist !

I asked about mileage and he was very not forth coming as it was ' only 6 weeks' he'd had the car , i wouldn't agree and told him to take to nearest Audi dealer and I would pay them to check it over, made all excuses it it was an hours drive etc etc - I refused politely to pay until it was confirmed by Audi !

Eventually car goes to Audi - very, very  help guy - car had done circa 8000 miles been skiing in the alps , turned out drive shaft issue cost me circa £250 - !! I told him that was a good will gesture as it was out of warranty 3 months /3000 which ever was the sooner !!

He must have thought I was a mug £6k of-course a cheque is in the post ! #not

Hi,brilliant forum, long time browser, but first post.Quick intro.Long established(3rd gen.) family indy, stocking about 50 used, based in n/west uk.Been very quiet sep/oct/nov for us after an ok rest of year,13 for the month so far with another 1 on thurs, blanked on fri,two yesterday and a few bubbling today, but generally pretty dire for the last few months really.Dont seem to see many other northern dealers on here, but some times difficult to know where the posters are from, will increase posts from now and hope to get acces to members lounge asap.keep up the posting guys,as have said is a brilliant and refreshing knowledge source for fellow traders.I look aftyer a lot  the prep and repair side of the business and will post any fixes that we come across, wondered if that could warrant a sub section as these modern cars do throw up some headaches as I am sure we all know!!regards,Peter 0.

  8. Difficult , so not always to trust emails / send details in different emails AND to speak to people before sending money just to be sure! I Too have heard of big property transactions where emails have been redirected etc and accounts changed - lots of money gone to wrong place !!

Just got to double check and double check !

"DA just said some dealers are better that others but there's little they could do. "

Nothing they could do ! Really . very simple ban the dealer for dishonest advertising that is affecting their business and reputation ! sounds like they are happy to take the money...!

  10. Car Values !

    That old chestnut !

We all use various guides to value car s/ buy car s/sell cars ..but everyday its gets more and more challenging on not only what to buy m what to pay and then what to retail it for to make a workable margin.

Find myself today question WHO is is really giving a TRUE VALUE of a car.

    Golf TDI BMT Match 5dr - 2015-15 -14000 miles

    VALUES AS Follows

    GG Trade £11970 Retail £13510

    CAP Clean £12000 Retail £13695

    Autotrader Retail £13759

In reality they are all very similar , a lot closer than many other cars I've checked

On AT Prices start at £12395 / Loads at £12500 12/14000 miles - one owner

On motors prices from £11999 with 17000 miles - One owner

The low prices are mainly from car supermarkets / bid group - so does this mean they dictate what the retail market is ?

I'm told auction prices are fetching cap clean + , don't forget the commission , transport etc etc , so how do we the independents compete ?

As we all know customers who search these platforms will naturally do the ' price' checks but if they are selling at £1500/2000 less than the 'suggested' market price , surely these customers will travel and buy them ? ( I'm sure they will end up paying more with the bolt on's any way !)

I'm sure the manufacturers of some these cars must be getting worried a Golf to depreciate circa 45% ?? ( 21500 new - trade circa 12000) !

    Thoughts ?

Is a copy of a motor trade certificate really proof that the person is a full time trading motor dealer? There are lots of part timers, students, etc who are knocking out a few cars from home who can supply a trade certificate.

I think it's got to be the 'sheepskin jacket and original glass's guide ' [ Other guides are available ] :) !!

Joking apart its got to be 'closed' account for bonafida dealers only ! On TCD Everyone dealer is checked out to ensure they are who they say they are or else they don't get on on the forum !

  12. I would explain that although its a lovely car etc etc , however you only sold it as it's such a nice car which had come into Part exchange , normally you do not buy this type of stock in for cash .. but to try and HELP THEM in their situation you'll offer £300/350 - only as a favour ! balls then in their court !

Two viewings today, both were, "what's your best price for cash mate"......

You see that little sign in the window, that's what I want.....

Both had to "speak to the wife", quite clear who wears the trouser's in their homes!!

Can't believe you let them walk .. ..

You should have said , " Give me your number , lets call her " ..

Or " Lets take it for a drive and show it to the Mrs " ..

Just kidding.. BUT I'm sure some of the ' sales professionals ' would say that how you do it ! :)

It does amaze me how many times men/women go car shopping on their own but can't make decisions ... guess just window shoppers ! OR Too scared to say ' I'm only tyre kicking and wasting your time ' !!

Right, wife has come back from Post Office with the receipt for 6 months tax, happy days. (It's going to be her new family hack, so happy to register the car in her name.) She taxed it on the new keeper green slip with her details, but the post office didn't retain the V5. Can I now just go online and change the owner to her, like I normally would with a new customer, or will the tax then become invalid?

If I change the ownership online to my wife, will it come back disabled, or will they see that's it's been taxed?

She is hopefully taking the car from lincolnshire to the Isle of Wight on Monday, so don't want her being in untaxed car....

will come back disabled , as no facility to change taxation on line - just post it off with 'taxation change' !
