Thank you, I really appreciate your feedback.

I'm hoping to get 100 responses so I have some worthwhile stats.

I have a cheeky question....I noticed you're an advance member and wondered if you would mind sharing the link in your member only forum?

No problem if not, I will keep my fingers crossed for enough responses in here :-)

    Thanks again

    Alison

To be honest you'll get more response off here as everyone will see it any way :)

  2. Well 'Helen Queen' the car looks a nice example but then looks can be deceiving , images , write up all seems excellent , BUT do your own checks , make sure the service history details are correct in the service books as per the advert, the price is about right for the age/model/ mileage. You need to personally inspect the car to ensure it is what is being advertised. If you are unsure about any aspect maybe an independent inspection by i.e. AA , RAC for peace of mind.

Used over new - how much money do you have to spend , its as simple as that , if you've got £25K plus buy a new one , if that's what you want.

As for better cars for 10k, it really is a personal choice of what you want the car for ? looks? performance.

All the usual things accident damage, HPI / Experian check to ensure its not stolen, been in a major accident, out standing finance and most important dealer reputation, Google the business you are thinking of dealing with , read their reviews.

Hope this helps you but please feel if I can help further.

All this doom and gloom was around 3-4 years ago when I first started. A lot of traders actively discouraged me.

In that time I literally started with nothing and now hold 40-50 cars in stock, selling on average around 40 a month.

Being totally honest I work very hard, have next to no social life, don't take holiday or days off so 7 days a week working but I have managed to build a very strong reputation and a knack for buying desirable stock which sells promptly.

It can be done. If you want any help PM me.

  5. I do source quite a few cars , Good luck especially with main dealers majority I've found will not do a deal , that's if you manage to speak to the right person - most of the time in my experience manager wil not be contactable and they ask a naive salesperson to talk to you as a retail customer as they don't understand ' trade' - ' retail' difference !

Had a result with main dealer just before Christmas and they did a deal , and again this week with a Citroen dealer , very helpful and properly described car which arrived last night....

    If you don't ask you'll never know :) !

Always worth asking .! Good LUCK

  6. Can be done - I don't sell anything like 30/35 cars a month but do everthing ( A bit like scooby :) )  but I don't get stressed - since 2006 done it all myself , I do 6 days a week and do have a life away from the business its a balance , it's all down what you want from it , but fully understand about staff issues as 6 months ago took on a workshop /tyre site and overnight gained 5 staff .. sorry now 4 as one is leaving at of the month ! :)

Finding the right person /people we all struggle with but you need to give support to the Mrs G and the little un , last thing is to miss out on the baby growing up ! Good Luck mate.

  7. Are your staff stealing from you?

Controversial and I hear shouts from both the employer and employee side  , If my staff stole I'd sack them and the employee's shouting " of course we don't steal" .

Hear me out , Over the years I heard and seen so many examples and recently taken on 5 employee's overnight , Talking today to a parts delivery driver the conversation got onto staff and how different some people work, some just turn up and go, others actually understand what else is entailed rather than just turning up.

Going back to when I was an apprentice in the late 80's I was told in my 1st few days how it works ,The service manager explained to me,  " you start at 8.30 and finish at 5.15 , by start that means ready to start , not a case of clocking on putting your overalls on and then starting work, when I say finish 5.15 that means finishing the work , then washing your hands at 5.15, not driving off the premises at 5.15 "

I remember those words well , and to make sure I was always at work around 8.15 latest , some of the  experienced , long term mechanics pretty much stuck to the rules too, so it wasn't just 'us apprentices' and if someone was 5 minutes late they would lose quarter of an hour's pay.

I was explaining to my staff how this was when I was a lad and I'm reasonably flexible , however the give and take has to be on both sides up to a point.

So am I wrong when I tell them that they are stealing from me .... Last week 3 of them come into the kitchen to make a drink at 8.30, ... then them wonder into the workshop chatting away ..eventually at about 8.50 they decide to open the workshop doors and move a couple of cars , by the time they start to bring cars in for work its 9.00am. At the end of the day come 5.00pm they start to clear up and are ready to go at about 5.05 and on the dot 5.15 they are off.

To me I've lost at least 20 mins each in the morning and 10 each in the evening , that's 30 minutes per day per person , that in a week is nearly a day's worth of work - wasted . My time

I asked how would they feel if I deducted the wages at the end of each month for the hours not worked ? They didn't seem to understand that they were actually stealing from me!

    Thoughts ?

Can anyone give me an idea where to price an A Class - prices are all over the show on Autotrader and I have taken it via PX.
36k DN10 XHS - Merc A Class Blue Efficiency Elegance SE 160 petrol.

Immaculately clean and full history, 2 keys and drives very well.

Where do you price it at?

Got to be worth at least £6500 ! or is that too optimistic :) !

How do you politely deal with these people? I had a guy who flipped out when I said we wouldn't be test driving the car until we agreed a deal in principle, bearing in mind I had just spent £250 on paint correction detailing so it looked a million dollars.

Always difficult and sometimes you simply cannot judge or try to close them too much , its a balance and difficult to gauge. If the car is in the showroom which means moving either one , two.... cars then I always ' test drive is no problem , should we just make sure you happy with the px price ? or you're happy with the car looks, paper work etc so if it drives as good as it looks we'd have a deal / or you're going to buy it ?   , Doesn't always work but quite a few have said lets agree px or deal before test drive - I do get very possessive and don't want to get all the cars dirty !

The odd one or two even after all that will have a test drive and walk away to ' think about  it ' .,.... but hey thats life :)

can't win em all mate !

I do explain its not just about getting cars dirty , insurance implications, damage , etc etc most sensible one do understand but the like the one who flipped probably just wanted a drive ..

I had one quite a few years ago looking at a golf at £3000 - then he spots a GT TDI Just arrived in ,

"he asks how much is that? " £14000 ,

     "can I take it for a spin ? "

I said I thought you were looking at £3000 golf , He said yeah but just want to take this for a spin ...

I said sorry I don't do that ,let people take cars out for a spin unless you're thinking about buying THAT car ...

He wasn't a happy chappy , said to his girlfriend not buying anything from here if won't let me take that out ! lets go ..
