Glad it was all ok for you on the end , you said he had his phone on loudspeaker and you could hear the conversation with bank , could of been any one on the other end of phone , that's how they suck you in .

Yes but it wasn't just a call to a friend, had to go through security checks and also rang the number off back of his bank card. Lesson learned make sure natwest payments clear no matter what

Wouldn't let a car go by transfer until I can see money in my account..... trust no fooker

I understand this but when most customers pay via transfer and they show us it has been sent we are more than happy as 90% of customers have travelled quite a distance and are genuine just like this customer, gut instinct told me this was not a con artist and I ran with that instinct. If it was some scroungy git off an estate with his baseball cap on then I would think twice. Thanks for all the advice once again very much appreciated

    Thanks for the reply.

I've been on my local auctioneers site & picked a good few cars of interest.  Looked up they're retail value and as a guide to trade price got a valuation from We buy any car although I don't know how accurate that would be, some of the cars it was valuing only £500 less than retail which won't be enough mark up once fees, mot, service are factored in + any repairs.  I'm going to head down there and see what they sell for and see what the margins are.  My fully comp Motor trader Insurance has come in around £1400 or £1200 TPO which I didn't think was too bad.  I don't know what others are paying but seemed reasonable enough.  I think that was for up to 4 cars at one time.

Just in regards to trade plates, the application want the company house registration.  I'm going to avoid Ltd and just do it sole trader for the first year.  How practical is it to operate without trade plates?   Can you get trade plates without being ltd?

I did see Jaime's post, and to be honest am very surprised at the hostility, and frankly arrogance that seems to be here from some towards new/part time traders. It's a shame.  We all have to start somewhere, it was true for me 10 years ago in business and for everyone here, whatever profession you're in.  I think a lot of people forget that.

Looks like you have done your homework and will be fine just don't get into bidding wars have a limit and stop as you get more knowledge of the auction house you will realise how it works. Trade plates is a must and you are a sole trader so nothing wrong with that. You seem to appreciate the advice given and take it on board unlike others. Good luck

  5. That's what I was implying because we all know how Lucas is and he is doing his own thing and good luck to him, but this Jamie guy just doesn't understand that all his questions have been answered and lots of free advice given and some how everybody is being awkward:blink:

Before not coming back. Make sure you aim your pointy shoes towards the nearest telephone to declare to the HMRC of all the additional income you’ve earned.

    True

Negative? That’s you buddy and your interpretation.

    Sincerely. Good luck though. Sayonara

I think this Jamie chap doesn't either understand English or is just a teenager trying to find his way. Where is Lucas with his advice? If you can't handle the truth on a internet forum don't know how you going to handle real life situations. Good luck and all the best

  7. Yes. Contacted the customer yesterday saying there is definitely something wrong so he called up his bank straight away and called me back saying after spending an hour on the phone doing security checks and everything that goes with it turns out the lady who did the original transfer via phone banking put the last digit of our account number wrong and they had sent the money elsewhere and have managed to rectify everything nearly but he must go in to branch to show his I'd and few more security checks and all should be sorted, only issue is that he's a coach driver and doesn't arrive home until this evening but has promised he will go into branch first thing and sort it and was very apologetic. So no money yet but just looks like a mistake from natwest. Will post update tomorrow either way we get paid or the cars getting collected. :)

And Tony911, I never told EPV to F*** off. I actually appreciate his advice as I said thank you at the end of my post. YOU tend to be an issue however. Stop making things up and get off this thread if you dont want to put in some advice.

You have had all your questions answered but still are telling the people who have gave you the best advice not to give their input because you know best, if that was the case you wouldn't be asking. SELF WARRANT MEANS WHEN YOU SELL THE CAR GIVE A WARRANTY BY YOURSELF WRITTEN AND SIGNED FOR BY BOTH PARTIES AND INCLUDED WHAT IS COVERED AND FOR HOW LONG AND WHEN THINGS GO WRONG WITH THE CARS YOU SELL DEAL WITH THEM YOURSELF. GOOD LUCK

“Poor me, nobody wants to give me free advice”

Now I know you’re probably not thinking like that but that’s how you’re starting to come over mate.

I have found the best way to get the most out of this forum is to try and figure shit out for myself and if I really can’t find the answer, help will be given. As said above, there are dozens of “new traders” a year on this forum and many never return.

Self warrant. You warrant yourSELF.  There’s a thread literally next door to this one about this very subject. Talk of keeping a pot by and paying for WARRANTy claims yourSELF?

Think of it as a rite of passage, you have to wade through the salty old fuckers who have been worn down by the industry before you get to the enthusiastic ones who are still happy to talk about the job on here after having a day at it. Or they are so busy running a successful firm they have little time to help.

Without this forum i’d be at least a year behind my own personal progress, it’s genuinely a gold mine. There’s a guide on “how to” at the top of this forum that covers the basics like what you’ll need.

Good luck with it. Find out as much as you can by spending a week reading this forum’s last 100 threads. That’s what I did when I started 18 months ago and I didn’t have any experience in the trade at all. Zero. You have 4 years. Then when you have attempted something and half fucked it up (you will) ask on here and you’ll get help.

EPV. I understand everything you say. I just hate toxicity. Just dont bother coming onto this thread or bother typing out a message if your just going to be like a bitter old man.

I'm sure we all needed help when we first started and that's what I'm here for.

I haven't just come on here after a day of thinking about car-trading. I've been looking and scanning through, I read the same stuff over and over but there is nothing better than speaking to actual people who do what you want to do.

Thanks for your input anyway. Really appreciate it.

Epv just gave you some of the best advice and instead of taking it all in you have basically told him to f##k right off. Wrong attitude in this job and life pal you won't get far. Take the advice you are given if you don't understand it stay in your own lane. Good luck

  10. If you can't afford to do it full time no point in starting up as part time traders because that's all you will ever be part time traders better off getting a ice cream van. It's a full time job in other words

As long as the customer has shown me the funds have gone out of his account (I photo it) I'll let them go. I can't be assed to wait now until it shows. All my customers pay an initial payment by transfer so there is a paper trail. 90% show immediately, some go off for further checks and can take longer. I trust my nose.

Yeah but 4 days you ever had to wait that long before?
