At our old site in Hastings we had a 'messer horn'.

One of those £2.99 fleabay air horns.

We shared the site, but not the cars so it was bloody good fun at times.

Typical scenario.... I would be chatting, well more like u'umming with the VAG twat as he is bending down inspecting the tyre treads on the 4th tyre with his magnifying glass after, already being onsite for an hour, all whilst having to explain the 'hawwwwwwhhhhhh' coming out of the sales office every 5 minutes:D

VAG twats cost us a fortune in gas canisters until we stopped selling them.

    Hahaha brilliant

Better to use these when they are in a position to jump, bang their head on the open bonnet

This might finally knock some sense into them!

I’ve got a Q5 s tronic sitting in the corner of my place. Sitting being the operative word. Going nowhere. I think i’ve got to retail my way out of the gearbox issues but it’s £2500. There’s also a small chance that i’ll need a mechatronic unit if the strip down and new clutch packs don’t do the trick.

The mechatronics can be refurbed james, there’s plenty of firms online who do it and they come back with lifetime warranty. As you know I’m an expert with these gearboxes now lol! Clutch packs is a big problem, I didn’t get much change out of £2k for mine on the Allroad. Mech units tend to store fault codes in the ecu, whereas the clutch packs don’t.

I thought Cat B meant it could only be broken for parts? My bike was a Cat B write off after a crash on a round about years ago, I bought it back off the insurance company, I couldn't sell the frame but could sell everything else (that wasn't broken or bent).

Correct. Cat A and B cannot be put back on the road.
However the parts from cat b can be re-used

    +1.

I'll actually do a new post on unit stocking to address some common misconceptions that have been spread on this forum by people with limited knowledge and zero experience on the subject.

This would be very helpful nick. I’m currently considering unit stocking to grow my business.

  5. I’m gonna keep this as short as I can, let the newbies know the sort of fun and games these big auction houses get up to...

I won a car from BCA about 6 weeks ago paid clean £3800 with a clear assured report.

Went to collect it and the dash was lit up light a Christmas tree. After a week or so of BCA messing me about they agreed to a refund but had ‘lost’ the spare key and paperwork. They would not refund me until the docs were found.

Eventually after 5 wasted phone calls I had to threaten them with court (via recorded letter) and eventually got my money back, albeit less the assured fee that they got wrong in the first place.

Anyway, that was just the beginning.

Since being refunded I have kept an eye on the car and the new assured report is showing all lights are on and also the listing correctly states no spare key/paperwork etc, fair enough.

However it’s since gone through the hall FIVE TIMES. Each time the bid starts at about 2k and the auctioneer is pretending people in the hall are bidding however they are not. He is even saying things like ‘SOLD to the guy in the shorts!’ I’m looking around and no one is even looking at the car, let alone wearing shorts!

Every time it’s ‘sold’ it appears in the list again the next day.

I know this isn’t exactly breaking news for most of us, I just feel the newbies need to know they might be bidding against BCA not another trader.

That made me spit my coffee out.

Seeing Nick had replied I was expecting some sort of....

Throw the book out the window, make your own price, fuck the competition, overprice it, this is where you'll make your money this month and then I got to I'd scrap it

Lol, that’s Nicks way of buying it off him for £75!

  7. It’s quite straight forward.

You will arrive and need to sign in. When I went to court the receptionist was sat at a desk in the middle of the waiting room.

Unfortunately everyone sits in the same room so whoever you are meeting in court will likely be sat near you.

The receptionist will call each case one at a time. I had to arrive at 10am and was not seen until 4pm so sitting in the waiting room along with the claimant sitting 5 feet away with his entire family was not fun!

Eventually you’ll go in and the judge will be sat there, he/she will probably ask the claimant for their version of events first then move to the defendant.

Eventually the judge will make a ‘judgement’ and all will be over.

One thing I will point out though... when I went a couple years back I was adamant I was going to win. I couldn’t see any way on this earth I wouldn’t... the judge ruled 50/50 but I was still gutted.

  8. Im thinking of using Codeweavers on my website. Ive heard from my website developer they charge around £50 per month but sometimes the finance company like Close pick up the tab?

Are you guys using Codeweavers if so how much are you paying? is it worth it? Should i consider iVendi?

    Thanks!

Why is the timing chain refered to as 'brake retrofit'?

If they are trying to mask a bigger problem, surely, this wording seems counter intuitive?

Having looked into this in more depth, the recall isn't on the chain itself. It's on some brake servo but apparently the chain is affected in some way and therefore the chain and guides are replaced too. This isn't always the case though, if the chain passes the test then just the brake retrofit is carried out. I wonder how this will work in my case, will BMW be alright about me taking a car in there that barely runs and just tell them to carry out the required recalls? Most of the time when the chain is replaced under this recall the car is in full working order but BMW find the issue with their diagnostic equipment. Hope this makes sense!

Yes, it won’t stretch again after, just give me chassis and I can get what recalls are required.

its the ‘brake retrofit’ which is code name for timing chain you need to look out for.

there is 3 or 4 recalls on BMW’s between 2007-2011

    batery cable to ecu melting

    timing chain

    Air con blower

And one more but I’m hungover so can’t think

    I think it's passenger airbag.

I spoke with Fairfield who say it's just battery cable and passenger airbag for the recall. However Sytner say it's all three so your 'contact' is correct. Thanks again Grant. Have you ever had a car go in for the brake retro fit recall and NOT have the chain changed??

Were these cars not bad for injectors aswell?

Yes apparently so - im thinking this is my next port of call, dont wanna be playing anymore parts darts though, especially if it turns out to be the chain!

Doesn’t matter, I’ll let you know shortly

    Yes needs all 3
-Timing chain check(at dealer) will be classed as a Brake retrofit check. Will be a free timing chain install.
-Battery cable. (Extremely urgent car can cut out mid driving and lose all power. I’ve hard this twice.
    -Blower wiring (can catch fire)
    Can do the wiring Monday.

    Have a good weekend gents.

Thanks for looking into this Grant - however I have just spoken with my local BMW who tell me the only recall outstanding s for the drivers airbag, not the chain :(
