In a no deal (or a bad deal which now seems more likely) Brexit said 3 companies will definitely go. Their "just on time" manufacturing model will simply not work with the increased road travel times and customs checks. Plus, why make something for an export market that will have tariffs slapped on it. Wales (Airbus) and the North East (Renault / Nissan) voting leave made no sense to me at the time. It makes a lot less sense now. Sad story really. Everything WAS going so well.

Do you mean that you don't put a new set of the manufacturer's specified tyres on each car that you sell?
-
Agree with Arfur above plus we don't have to sell the cars with absolutely everything they came with when they were brand new. One key is OK as is a missing spanner or a handbook or a screwdriver or a first aid kit or the pair of white cotton gloves. Some dealers even take stuff off their stock to sell individually. If your advert shows a photo of the boot with no parcel shelf it's OK for it to be missing. If the punter wants it badly offer to supply them one for a hundred quid or if they are about to walk because a parcel shelf is an absolute must, write in the invoice that you will supply a used one at no cost to them.

Not at the end of my days. Shit cars have shit margins. Better cars have better margins. Some cars have HUGE HEALTHY JUICY margins. AND when you sell them on finance you get £££ added on top. Rowland, I think he meant that the profit margin is always £500 (not the same %) but in one case £500 investment is tied up, in the other £4500 is tied up.

Another lesson learnt (without a penny earned).

"Now that you are at a different location your premium actually came £110 cheaper. Cheque is in the post."

Didn't improve in the US (far from it), won't improve one bit here.

Every car that you have in stock is there to bring you profit. If your finance company will pay £800 commission on a £12K car why give that away to a punter with "own finance". Just switch the own finance punter to YOUR finance. You'll probably save them money in the process and you'll only be doing 10 more minutes of additional work. This is the reason the likes of Big Motoring World have a huge admin fee (£400ish) for "own finance" customers

I am with Mr Horgan on this. Deal directly with two three decent lenders, better for the dealer, for the customer and certainly for the bottom line.

Yes, I remembered now. In fairness they all look the same to me. Back to the topic. A 9 year old Korean coffin dodger will have plenty of surface rust on the underside and even inside the engine bay so if your MOT tester is happy with it that it is not structural you don't have to worry about it or go back to the vendor.
-
Are you kidding? Coffin dodger... you didn't want anything to do with the blue one you got in p/x... You sold it, were surprised by this and went and bought exactly the same model unseen. Ooops.
-
There are plenty of newbies on here Benji. No one even comes close to comparing with you.
-
There was. No rust was mentioned. Because the car was too old AB said to Benji that their reporting system doesn't report rust on vehicles so old. In Benji's own words: "tough s**t dickead serves you right for buying online"

Can you imagine if this was true :-) One of the largest brokers in the country operating without their own license. They have one of course...

IMO being key here. IOPO (in other people's opinion) some questions were not sensible :-) Rory's this isn't a newbie, this is Benji. He's BACK
-
Benjiiii! Long time no see. I had all but written you off.

It can make your life a lot more UNcomfortable including when you are on holiday. When the phone rings about "that car you sold me" it's especially unpleasant if the call finds you on a beach somewhere :-) The job these days is less about cars and more about people and what they want. Start with cheapies with big % margin. Also I would not tell those buyers that I am a mechanic as it could mean a comeback for a free repair on every little minor niggle. As Justin said adding value is key and you can add A TON of value to a £250 cheapie without trying to restore it to as new condition. And Good luck! Sometimes this is all it boils down to.

I am happy with my rep, just emailed you his details, not sure if he covers both our areas though.

I've stayed away from the Brexit debate because of my inability (ineligibility rather) to vote. 20 years here and no right to cast a vote, there might be a couple of million remainers just like me that didn't vote for that reason so in reality the 51.9% is a lot less. So far no one has "won" anything, everyone I know is counting losses. But if someone thinks that their "lifestyle" might improve as a result - I respect your vote and I'll have double of what you've been drinking. I'll certainly need it to improve my lifestyle in the years to come...

They are until you need to buy any "dealer only" parts. Every time I call the parts dept for something he starts with "Are you sitting down..." A couple of months ago I needed a diff for a Hyundai Santa Fe (Kia Sorentos use the same diff). £3100 without the electromagnetic coupling. The breaker that sold me a used one (with coupling) for £290 clearly hadn't done his homework...

No (reliability) comebacks in that case as you are not a consumer.

Yes my neighbour just "downgraded" from his 18 month old Jag F Pace to an Audi Q8 (I didn't even know a Q8 was coming). He must be feeling the pinch so moved away from a luxury brand to a more mainstream offering...
