Nikon D7100 with the standard 18-105mm lens and a Hoya circular polarizer filter (a must for cars for the £30 or so it costs). an iPhone for the two minute walkaround videos.

I think he meant the deal is a non starter rather than the 6700 mile car. Is it in the UK? I'd be very interested but not at that money.
-
Errr, no. A V62 + £25 at a post office should tax a car and request a new V5 even if not in trade. The only difference I know of (I could of course be wrong) is that if not in trade the DVLA sends out a letter to the last registered keeper to check that they have indeed sold the car and it makes the process longer. A week or two when in trade, around 4-6 weeks when not. Which sounds like a big deal but if you have sold the car and the new keeper knows that it's taxed they usually won't care how long they wait for a new V5. I never submit new keeper details in the first 3 weeks following a sale and no one ever calls me to check why the V5 is not there yet.
-
By the way, what is the significance of knowing that it's IN TRADE? Since DVLA closed their local offices I've never come across a car that can not be taxed at a post office with a V62 and £25 fee.

3 so far, sold one today early in the morning just before the monsoon arrived in Bucks Waiting for two more buyers for the same car, one has a 5:30 appointment, the other 7pm and something tells me they will both turn up at exactly 6pm. One has a part ex that I want so I hope he gets here first.

I didn't know this but just tried this with one car that I know is in trade and my own taxed daily driver and it is indeed correct! Thank you for that. https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax The text that comes up for the car IN TRADE right at the bottom of the page is: You may be able to tax this vehicle at a Post Office Branch that deals with vehicle tax without the V5C registration certificate.

Auction buying mistakes that you made good money from...
Nick M.K. replied to Nick M.K.'s topic in General Dealer Chat
This how I buy 80% of my stock (just not online) and it rarely fails me. -
@Mark101 in that case contact Lloyd Latchford Driveaway to see if they can set you up to provide this without needing the HPI package. http://www.lloydlatchfordgroup.co.uk/services/driveaway-payment/
-
I have it as a no-cost part of my HPI package. It actually costs £15 for 5 days fully comp but the customer pays it with their card when we print off their cover note. Takes five minutes to do online during the sale and the cover note is generated straight away. The car needs to be younger than 10 years, customer older than 21 and it has a £500 excess.

I've bought my fair share of rubbish at auctions over the years but a couple of times I thought I've made real big mistakes just to be rewarded by a quick sale for much more than I thought someone might pay. A few months ago I bought a petrol Jag XF 3.0 in a sale full of 3.0 Diesels and didn't realise it was petrol until I HPI'd it the next day. £500+ road tax! I thought I'll have it for months but there were very few on the market and it sold fast for strong money and a lot of calls kept coming in after that. I am sure you've made a few quid on something you thought you might have to give away...

the DVLA are EXTREMELY politically correct. No one will ever ask you "Are you really 90 because you don't sound old enough". On a sadder note, us Bulgarians don't live up to that age. That might be useful Rory. Especially when you get calls "About that car you sold me..."
-
If ever someone has a Bulgarian name on a logbook (the ones that all sound like tennis players) and need to call the DVLA using a geographically appropriate accent I am offering my services, free of charge

The one or two we looked at together the other day certainly did. Exceptional prices. But they did tick all the boxes. The trick is to find something that doesn't tick everyone's boxes.
-
It's not just you. It's everyone. A good reason why I avoid it :-)
-
Forget the few expats who don't already own a LHD vehicle. Register it here as Dave says, then sell it on AT to Eastern Europeans going home because of Brexit. The demand will be (already is) huge, price too.
-
Hahaha, hell NO! They care about price, price and price. Also history and long MOT. Mileage is important to them but if the price is right they will buy at whatever miles. Also, don't obsess over number of previous owners, does it have two keys, does it have leather or sat nav. And learn which automatics to avoid, which automatics are NOT automatics and also which automatics the trade avoids BUT are easy to fix when broken. My hate list is led by the Ford Powershift, Toyota MMT, Audi Multitronic and anything French or Vauxhall. Not much left to choose from, I know :-) Don't get me started...

Mark, call the DVLA yourself, they will ask your name and address, pretend a little, give the name of the gentleman and their address. Then in 3 days pop over and tell them you arranged with the DVLA to send out a direct replacement! It's free and solved your problem in under 5 minutes.

I don't know if they have an idle control valve but if it does I would take it out to clean. You could also possibly have a dirty throttle body or even a sticky EGR valve but I doubt the latter would affect start up so much.
-
+1. The faster you learn, the less hard you'll have to work. Spend a few days going through old threads on the forum and a few hours on a couple of trips to Blackbushe. I like your idea about small newish (petrol?) automatics, not because of the city you live in but because of the London market which is an hour away on the train from you and they WILL travel an hour, trust me.

"It" could list it as a 2009 Beetle Convertible Manual for all I care, I will manually go over all details to make sure it is listed correctly. A few years ago I spoke to Lawgistics about exactly this and their advice was: If you have made reasonable effort to double check and ensure it is model year XXXX you can list it as model year XXXX. To cover your back you put the exact date of first reg in the order form and invoice.
-
Absolutely it does but sometimes we get lucky when 1400 cars need to go under the hammer in one day. I bought that car within 5mins of walking in the sale without shortlisting it, couldn't buy anything else all day after that. 5 hours! Market price according to AT is around £8300 and a dealer around the corner from me has one at £7990, a year older, more miles and in grey so they must be reasonably desirable little things. Not my usual cup of tea. Model year 2013, started from end of October 2012 to end of October 2013. You could describe it as 2012 if you are sure that it was built before end of October that year.

How rough can it be at 20K miles :-) Was reasonably clean, needed a full valet, had two large dents on the front wing (PDR got them out), needed 3 tyres, declared with NO V5 but had the front page. BCA Assured, Full history, 3 stamps at 2000, 9000 and 18000 miles, two owners, two keys. Cap Clean was around £6650, mine for £6400 plus the fees. The photo of the actual car above is at the auction line just after it went through the hammer on 24 Sept.
-
No but the first time I used it was for another trader's car stranded at Blackbushe next to mine. I asked him Do you want a jump start and when he saw the unit in my jacket pockert he said: Oh, I don't have to time to wait for a charger, I'll call the key office for a booster pack. He thought I was giving him a charger Worked brilliantly on his diesel Merc, he was impressed.

In a good place. They had our 5 days Driveaway comprehensive insurance and a car like this gets written off even in a minor bump so they would've paid me my money and collected it back (plus some more, insured value would be higher) from the insurance company. At the time I hadn't been paid, had the old p/x without knowing that it would be sold for good money a day later and was not even sure if the whole deal is proceeding or not.
-
Yes it does, my GB40 was just under £100 but the GB70 is a heavier duty pack. Maybe when you buy try it on a cheaper car, disconnect the battery completely and try to jump start just by attaching the NoCo to the cables / clamps. It has a little red button that you press for 3 seconds to override the "no battery found" protection. Should start up to 3.5l diesel, 5l petrol.
