  1. Guys, I am just finding out the lack of common courtesy from the general public. To be fair my experience in my previous life was in B2B so if someone changed their mind or needed to cancel an appointment you were kept in formed. Had a quiet month so far and arranged a viewing of a car Sunday. Changed my plans for the day in order to meet the commitment to my potential customer. You guessed it never turned up or replied to texts... Arfur, I absolutely love your business model, but unfortunately as new to this I am selling at the cheaper end of the market so not sure if it would work. Having said that I am going to ask people to text me confirmation of the viewing 2 hours in advance to at least give me time to rearrange my day. Regards Dean.
  2. Hi Arfur, I am probably being really dim.... I already have trade plates to transport the cars and the address I would be keeping the cars, i.e the smallholding is a private address off of the public highway....would I need to tax them ? Thanks again Dean
  3. Hi Guys, Thanks again for the feedback. Arfur, I hadn't even thought of motor traders policy needing multiple address etc. Also the trade plates... would I need to change them. Luckily it is 5 mins from my home and part of the attraction is the bay to prep cars, I was half way through polishing a car today and it rained. very frustrating... I can only imagine what it would be like in winter... Thanks Matt C, I appreciate your support.....
  4. Hi Guys, Thanks for your replies. Kieran, There would be parking for customers as well. Arfur... Thanks, its all down to overheads... more overheads = more pressure...
  5. Hi Guys, I hope you are all well. I am looking to move away from trading from home and would just like to see if anybody on here has a similar setup to the one I am looking at. A local smallholding has converted a building and made it into offices. There will be 4 offices with a communal conference desk for larger meetings. In the price of £300 I would have the office that is a nice size enough for 2 desks, an area outside in which my customers can come and view the cars by appointment only and a bay in a converted shed to do any prep work required. Along side this parking for 3 cars. It would mean I could keep 5 cars at home and 3 at the office. As some of you will know I am still new to the Car trading business but I can see real potential to move forward. The added benefits are not doing viewings at home and having a nice office to do the paperwork etc. Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
  6. Cheers Jim, Thanks for the reply, yes it is a minefield that as a relative novice of a few months you don't really discover until you are living it... Having said all of that I am still committed to making it work and having this forum to read about other traders challenges has really helped to educate me. At 49 years old I have to be the old dog learning new tricks ha ha. Have a great day.
  7. Thanks for your replies guys... as I thought, certainly makes an industry thats hard enough to make a living out of harder... I now understand the feedback I got when I posted about wanting to be a trader and what I thought were negative comments at the time. Still onwards and upwards as they say, Thanks again
  8. Hi guys, another question with ref to VAT if someone would be kind enough to answer it. I remember seeing a thread on here when I started a few months ago but cant find it now. It looks as if i to am going to need to register for VAT at some point. This is my understanding of how it works, I would appreciate any comments to clarify my understanding is correct. Buy Car at £1250 - Spend £200 on prep - Sell for £1900 Now the question is do I pay the VAT on the £650 Gross profit or the £450 Nett So either £108 on the Gross or £75 on the Nett. Either way it sure eats into your profits. Your comments would be very welcome, Regards Dean.

  11. Hi All, Picked up a 2008 Audi A3 over the weekend with a warning light on the dash showing that a bulb was faulty... I have checked this morning and all bulbs in working order, including the number plate bulbs. Just wondered if any of you guys had had the same thing or you know of a solution. Regards Dean.
  12. Hi Tradex, You wouldn't be kind enough to give me the details on Car Check.I have googled them and there seems to be lots of options. Regards Dean.
  13. Nice selection there MJ... one for every occasion....if they were food you would be a greedy guts ha ha....
  14. I bet, ha ha.... yes I sold mine to release some capital to start trading cars... hopefully i will make a success of it and i can get another one soon. I have had bikes since I was 12 years old and I am 49 so I am missing it a lot. still a great incentive to make it work. Ducati will be my next bike. Always had Jap sports bikes. Rode a 996 when they first came out and tried to ride it like my ZX10R at the time, first bend, changed down a couple of gears as you would on a Jap 4 cylinder and locked the rear up.... not a great experience. Just love the sound of them.....
  15. Love the 1199, not ideal for the road in the summer, boy do they kick off some heat. It looks fantastic... just sold my 2016 GSXR 1000 to get this business started and am missing it already....
  16. Hi Guys, I been offered a 2011 Chevrolet spark. Anybody had any luck selling these little cars... it looks nice. Regards Dean.

  19. Hi Justina, I must admit I have been looking at it myself, personally I would always set a different sort preference and look at cars within a reasonable distance but I know a lot of customers may not realise you can reset the default. Hi Mr C, that's positive news. Thanks both for the feedback. Hi Justina, I have had a quick look at Gumtree but will investigate further. Many thanks
