Ive covered the plate with the original 12 plate, would I be best off doing a v62 and then putting the original plate on?

I do believe the car has got to be taxed first on CO08DEZ before it can be transferred , new owner has to wait for V5 to come back and it has to show up on DVLA as a taxed car .

Only then can the process of a plate retention begin .

    I don't think a V62 would change the plate

  2. In Your name and TAXED  too I reckon before they will transfer the car back to its original plate .

Not a great plate on a 12 reg though is it .

Imagine a punter looking at that on the advert and passing by .

Surprised DEZ didn't want it back , been better for you .

Cover the plates up on the advert may help .

  4. Just had a guy to see a car yesterday .

Do you take choppers he says , Yes What do you have ?

    MX5 on private though its 2005 125,000 miles , OK I say

look it up its 2003 at, he didn't want to know that :) 178,345 miles didnt want to know that either

Then he starts , I want £1,500 for the car . £1,000 for the reg plate , £650 for the hard top , £200 for the tyres I've just fitted :) I'm selling it all as a bundle for £3,000 " BARGAIN " :)

Your car  is rusty though with NO service history , one key , ripped seats , hardly any paint left , and the rag top roof is full of holes . :)

Was most offended when i told him its £50 at most , I don't want the Plate , I don't want the Hard top and if you really want you can have the tyres back cos its going to scrap .

Scrap WOW now that did offend him LOL

Needless to say we didn't do the deal :) BUT it was still outside two hours later as it had packed up , wouldn't start , got towed away by his friend :)

BUNDLE PX I've never come across that before .

Beware he's still looking out there somewhere :)

Made us laugh when he had gone :)

  6. Auto trader websites work the other way round don't they ?

Did when we had a Razor web site

You load onto a dealer portal and then the adds go to your Razor web site .

We now have a click dealer web site were i load onto web site first they it feeds onto Autotrader .

Maybe you need a website supplier that does that for you

  7. We sold a total of 4 cars from Find & Fund when it first started and there was TV adverts on most nights

Now the adverts are no longer its died off to Zero

Part of the problem in my view is the Name  FIND & FUND

Looking at it from a customers point , FIND what? and FUND what ? the very words find and fund could mean anything , Fine for the people who work at Moto Novo as they know what it means , But Joe bloggs the milk man delivery driver , housewife , Nurse , Doctor , Lorry driver , Van mechanic , hasnt a Bl##dy scooby what find and fund means .

    Nice try though

  8. This happened to a friend of ours .started selling from home , Neighbours got very jealous and reported him .

Planning man came round , took reg of cars to check they were reg to him .

Result is planning won , he moved to a unit and gone from good to better doing the job so it worked out great for him .

At home he bought 4 bangers , and I mean bangers , rusty bangers , MOT and insurance later they were parked out side his house for the neighbours to look at .

Didn't like decent clean cars on his drive he says so now his 30k car sits on the drive and the bangers on the road all outside his house , They tried moving them to NO avail, reg to his wife insured on MID and they all have an MOT and tax . Been there two years now .

One neighbour complained about the state of them so he painted two of them with house emulsion paint  in pink :)

Jealousy !!!!!, route of all evil they say :)

Hope it works out for you Marc

  9. Most customers have lost key insurance and never knew about it .

Just tell them to tell insurance its lost and they get another without affecting No Claims .

Does depend on the car here though , under four yrs they get two keys , over four it comes as is .

I read through some of the replies this morning but my curiosity got the better of me so I picked up the phone and called my customer.

We chatted for a bit, I explained the small "discrepancy" to him, we laughed off my forgetfulness and he said he would be happy to "split the loss from my pricing error" and pay £11500 - "a drink for you, a drink for me".

I told him because he was being an absolute gentleman about it I will be happy to deliver the car to him, add a bit of fuel, do a new valet just before delivery and will also surprise him with a couple of bottles of wine. To him the deal will end up being almost the same, to me it will feel like the "loss" was only £100...

    Lesson learnt :-)

Haha , you scammer Nick , Nice result , well done .

hi all, i have messed up, punter wanted their plate putting onto the car they have just bought from me, I mistakenly put their part ex to trade so i now have to register their part ex in my name and tax it and then complete the transfer, the fee is £80, would the punter have had to pay £80 anyway if it had been done correctly?

    thanks

    Andy

Hard lesson there , Always let customers deal with their own plates , cos when the shite hits the fan its their fault then .

I had a billy know it all who tried telling me how to it so he drives away with his plate on the new car .

Be my guest mate , here's the screen crack on I said .

He lost the plate as the V5 went back to the old owner , oops you did that wrong , Old owner sold the plate back to him for £500 :) made me laugh .

So my day started at 2am at East Midlands Airport coming back from a short holiday, a few hours of sleep, then pre-booked car viewings all day (as soon as I go on holiday my phone starts ringing). 5 viewings today, one sold, one deposit, one maybe (will consider finance), one "talk to the wife" and one more deposit: a lovely old gent who came to see my Audi TT (from my post last week about Saturday "buyers"). He asked what the price was and what I can do for him, I said it's £11489, can't do much less, margins tight etc etc but I am happy to knock off the £89 if you leave a small deposit today and he did without trying to haggle more.

The only problem is that after the people annoyed me previous Saturday with their lowball offer I increased my price from £11489 to £11700 and this would've been the price the old gent saw on Autotrader before he called me today. I'd just forgotten and I don't do price boards :-) The question is do I now ring him back to explain about the STUPID mistake and try to wriggle another £200 out of this deal or forget about it "lesson learnt", "take it on the chin" etc etc...

Oh dear that is school boy stuff Nik :) Done your self out of 200 smackers , You will get over it by around Christmas :) I bet lol

Now lets all think what Nik could have done with the £200 hes lost forever :)

Sorry Nik . Just made me laugh .

Don't worry though we've all done it if were honest

  13. I set out to sell bolt on's not give money off via Promotions

Upgrade my own 6 month  warranty £199 Best added into finance quotes as you get a commission on the £199 then too :)

Paint sealant £199 Its very shiny now , bet you want to keep it that way don't you :)

Upholstery protection £99 stops the kids devaluing your seats :)

Windscreen Water repellent  £79 all plus vat saves lots of money on wipers :)

Screen price and get 6 month warranty engine , gearbox, warranty free but you can upgrade it to £199 to cover these extra  parts too .

25 cars a month with average 60% taking £280 of extras = £4200 x 12 =50k 80% mark up a year and that's not counting Finance commissions on top gives us a good profit .

Sold a car Sat and he bought paint sealant and warranty upgrade took £398 extra off him added to finance as bolt on's with finance commission at £709 it was £1,107 extra on top of screen price .

To the starters in this industry my advice is hold your hand out for bolt on's every time , take a little extra as it adds up over a year to huge money .

Do your sums , knock £100 off each car = 30k DOWN based on 300 a year

Take extra £200 on half the sold stock is £200 x 150 cars is £37,500 UP , lot of money in a working career over 30 years .

Hit them  with screen price and you get this warranty BUT for this little money extra you get this which is worth more than 100quid  off to you and NO warranty cover as I cant give you both discount and warrant the car can I . Guarantee they will agree with you :)

Hi I’m new to car dealing. I’ve no experience in this field of work I’ve been doing it for about 3 months and tbh it’s been going pretty well. I do it from home well I have a yard for the cars. Warranty sorted. I want to be able to offer finance is that a possibility? I think I will be able to sell more cars being able to offer finance

vat number and FCA  approved first before finance .

I actually know a dealer in Bedfordshire that charges £50 "test drive deposit" so it seems your idea might just catch on :-)

One near charges £25 for test drives , loses him lots of sales and we have picked up a few from him because of it too .

Strictly this happened after the test drive but still makes me chuckle,

knobhead customers trying to rag a car all through the test drive I finally had enough and asked him to pull over as I was going to drive back, I don't mind someone driving fast but he was right up the arse of other cars and being far too aggressive for a test drive, sat in silence with him on the way back to the dealership.... after we both got out of the car he said that car is sh*t anyway and I wouldn't buy from you pr*cks....

gets into his car and tries to speed off out of our car park but he fails to see the metal gate posts just infront of him and smash..... beaches himself on them and rips his front end off. look on his face was priceless

That made me spill my coffee Dan from laughing :)

No, first profit is the best profit.

I sold a Passat on Friday and took his older (2 years older) Passat in chop.  It had a full tank, so planning to use it, stuck the dog in the boot and went to handwash next to the place I always take my pictures ready for the net and walk the dog around the park.  Thought to myself, I will run this car for a week until the tank is nearly empty - sold it that afternoon, first viewing.

One of our mottos Mark .

if it doesn't sell , fill the tank , gone in two days days flat .

they can smell it I think

Interesting points in this forum thread. Some say it's not worth the hassle at all to chase BCA for tyres, others say you have to go through all the hoops of getting the full invoice value paid out including threatening court action, which in case you didn't know entitles BCA to close your buyer account...

BCA said that they will contribute to the cost of two brand new tyres. Since the old tyres were already half worn (and more) I am happy with a contribution. I don't expect an auction company to pay my full tyre bill. What I wasn't happy with was the time it took and the amount of evidence they required after the MOT fail. Not to mention the size of their "contribution"...

Heard of two guys who got nasty with BCA Nick .

both banned from buying for 12 months .
