    Plus 1

Just don't leave one at Blackbush....our's got stolen years ago.

Key left in bizzare place too, who would think to look in the ignition?

    Not worth claiming for.

Think we borrowed that one and left it at Notts BCA , might still be there too :)

  2. Always leave the customer something to have a dig at eg a little wheel scuff .

When they ask what is going to be done about the wheels because of the scuff , tell them its priced into the deal , BUT I can get it done for you at £100 , amazed how many forget the scuff and its never mentioned again , all because you have put the ball into their court and now they have to decide .

BUT some of the others will have it done and with these people it hasn't cost you the £100 ,

    Win WIN .

That makes no sense at all, unless they are trying to be clever and add 20% on top of the market price (hoping for a non-vat registered buyer) without having any intention (or indeed obligation) to pay that to HMRC :-)

I've tried working it out too Nick but its like 99% of the time now , Van CAP price at Brighouse on Monday £3200 and it made £3850 funnily enough just 20% over CAP  , on sale today at £4695 +VAT

Must be a loophole  or its as you say a clever move of  the additional so Called VAT as a 20% extra mark up , Don't know what happens if you get a VAT reg trader wanting to buy the van though .

Were they sold as spares or repairs David, or just as a usual stock unit?

Normal drive away stock ebay jokers are painful pillocks , , just a safety check and oil ,water , tyres , wipers lights , they get told what they are , bring em back if you don't want it in 1 hour and i'll refund you . If they work they never come back , The likes of those buyers are pleased to get a car in my view . Does em a favour as they are cheap runners .

Another one left us today , Polo 1.4 03 plate . 95k , some service , one key , Sept MOT 19 £495 , gone in the same day and its raining here too , washed it , checked its brakes , lights and stuff , Gave £100 for it . Got more than that out of the Finance Commission on their newer Fiesta .

    Exactly

    Why throw away profit

    We do the following:

Wash and hoover, drive 20 miles,if any doubt get workshop to ramp it

Usual photos with pictures of all the damage, list every single thing we can find wrong

Advertise spares and repair for the stuff with with faults eg EML light on etc

The downsides are fielding phone calls of non english speakers but you can be as rude as you like. Quite amusing sometimes!

When they turn up no need to spend anytime, just chuck the keys at them and say let me know. You almost have to put them off buying

When they buy ask them to sign a copy of the advert with all faults listed(this bit covers you according to TS)

    Recent examples:

Rusty 07 KA with 6 months ticket £100 given in chop sold in 2 days £400

02 Lupo Auto with a months ticket,EML light on and oil leak £200 given in chop to do the deal sold in 4 days £400

I have never had one back yet, % margins are wonderful!:)

But if you do get a screamer refund and scrap it

Same here , four in px today complete shite would be my description , gave £100 for 2 of em,+  £400 for a 7 seat Kia Carens diesel thing 100 k ,other three were 1 fiesta 04 , two corsas, one with hardly any paint on it diesel thing it was that he left free to throw away , 1.0 Corsa 90k with no service .

Did same as above " Soon be gone pal better get down here quick , chuck em keys and tell to bring the cash to the office if they want it " The - Carens £995 , Corsa petrol £495 , No paint Diesel Corsa £150 , Fiesta £495 px to clear gone in 2 hours , £1,500 up on the deals . Best though is they are GONE of the premises not harbouring space up .

I feel shit for my dad to be honest.  I bought him as a gift a Disco at the thick end of £30k and he was beside himself with happiness and gratefulness.

Fast forward almost 6 years and he now lives back in UK and is 79 - doesn’t do the mileage, car is starting to need some £ spending (EGR, timing belt overdue, major  service etc), RFL is over £500 and it does about 27mpg.  Dad is no way skint but because he doesn’t earn a wage anymore, he hates to spend unnecessarily, despite still owning a number of properties which he rents out (I think asset rich cash poor is his favourite expression).

So the solution is a 116D BM, £30 RFL 50+ mpg all sorted and ready to his spec (tow bar for his little trailer etc)

We just agreed a straight swap, it suits me because a good Land Rover does everything I need and will tow 3500kg, fit the dog in the boot for muddy walks, get me anywhere if ever we have any snow (oh I hope we do) and is generally a nice place to be.

My point is, no money is changing hands - I just wanted to get him a car that more suits his life style and one that suits mine - I just can’t quite believe how it has turned to such rat shit.

Hope Monday is a less troublesome day for you . What can go wrong after that lot ? Nothing  hope .

And no I will not fit Chinese EBay, half that shit doesn't work outta the box and the rest is usually downright dangerous or breaks in a few miles ;)

Nothing wrong with Chinese parts  :)

Well I've just had a text saying "he's been burnt before and doesnt want to take the risk"..... Which probably means hes realised it's going to cost £200 for the report.

Better off without him I reckon .

Nothing suprises em more than when you say " sorry you cant have it :) " all think they are the only customer and we are all brasic and desperate

    Hi Guys,

New here but have been reading all of you chatting on here for a while. You've given me a good laugh over time and finally thought it was time to get involved in the craic. Based in Kent, newbie to the trade. Pretty dead out here though, only selling the cheapies with no decent punters coming in and very few enquires through on email and on the phones. Anyone who does enquire seems to just blank my calls. Very frustrating but guess it's just the nature of the game.

Just spent my morning discussing what we could possibly doing wrong and having the same old advertising chat we've had for the past god knows how long! Rang round and everyone round here is complaining of being quiet. Have reduced my cars, changed the adverts but to no avail. Autotrader is telling me my ads are being viewed 70% less than others as well. God knows!

If anyones got a spare 5 for any advice, maybe to look over an ad or two of mine then that would be greatly appreciated.

Nice to meet you all anyway!

Hi Tobias , send us a link to your stock on web site , then stand back as we can get very honest :)

    Constructive too though :)

We have done 4 this morning , Two yesterday and 3 Sat , Just seen a finance enquiry for one more just ping in too .

Business out there if you can catch it .

    Hi All,

    Newbie's here from South Wales.

My partner, Ryan, has always been in and out of the industry. He's mid-twenties now and his father has always been in the car trade. I work in finance so no car expert!

We've opened a small independent site just over a month ago after a friend (now landlord) decided he was calling it a day with his site here due to another big job opportunity and family commitments. Pretty much one stop shop here, workshop with tyre bay, 2 ramps, sales pitch and showroom and a detailing bay as that is Ryan's true passion and existing business.

Not here to get rich quick or work 8-4, we're both realistic and aware of the sacrifices. But we're young so you've got to take a chance and work hard while you can!

Mainly will be myself using the site but I will try and contribute where I can :-)

Any advice is taken on the chin and greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Kelly

Welcome to the industry Kelly  , drive and passion sound very positive indeed .

    Thats your first qualification passed

Advice from me for your chin :

    You only work half a day when on your own ;

"Chose which 12 hr shift you want :) "

    Second part that proceeds the first advice is ;

"If your awake your at work :)"

Remember this too from an old hand , ITS NOT WHAT YOU TAKE , ITS WHAT YOU MAKE , Got it , profit is NOT a dirty word and you do any thing for nothing just make sure its for you two only .

Best bit is this though , if you enjoy your business you will never work again , its all fun :)

Good luck and enjoy the journey .

Stuck it on last night, You have got to love eBay......

What a brilliant car and looks like it should cost more !!
Let me make an offer that is indeed more than your asking price, but there is a But....and am relying on the old adage that if you don't ask...you don't get !
I have an Original wildlife oil painting by collected artist Tony Forrest. It has been valued at £8,000 by Whitewall Galleries (large chain of over 40 galleries and is they who exhibit originals by Forrest). I will happily offer this if the car is as nice as she appears.
I have certificated proof of value, ownership and authenticity.
Keep it and use as an investment - you will make good money, (I bought it for £450 and look at it now !). Sell it on and you'll still be way over your top price - you will be in a win/win.
I actually live in France where Forrest has no market - his market is UK or USA so not easy for me to sell quickly.
Your car is what we all hope to find, but rarely do, so am happy to take the hit on the price differential,
Can send j-pegs if you want,
    John

Forest Gump Probably , Cant be serious surely :)
