thank you for your replies, sold it in November 2021 in December he backed it ,fixed a map sensor and throttle body that fixed it .

he called me last week March 2022  said the fault had come back , so i said i would look at it again for him. He refused and said he wanted a mechanic of his choice.

offered a refund with a fair usage reduction he refused.

offered to pay half the bill of the estimate at his garage £500 he refused .

found a direct message to me on my phone December 11th thanking me for fixing the car the car first time round .

said he is taking this further . expecting a recorded letter in the post any day now with small claims court .

cant win with some people .

Has to give you chance to inspect it first as it could be a scam just to get money out of you .

Probably a totally different problem this time round , as MAP sensors and throttle bodies don't go twice in short periods .

Offering refund that was refused kills his claim really too . Offering money for half the bill is very generous after 4 Months of repair and 3500 miles of fault free motoring

I would stick to plan A now , we want to see the car and diagnose the fault , Thats the conclusion really .

Boasting claims about small claims is just his mad rage shouting hot air . When he realises its going to cost money to take a claim out .

If you hear more tell him to return the car for inspection and stop driving it , get him to tell you and exact mileage too at present day .

Whats the garage said the problem is this time round ?

    3433x45ppm

= £1,544.85 reduction , seems a fair deal to me , in 5 months its worth a grand extra now too

Is it using oil then? Chain Gone ?, Turbo shit its self , ?

If its one of those things then why does customer expect to return it after 5 months , Any fault cant have been present since you sold it surely . In that case its his baby to sort out not yours .

He /She could have done anything to it . Low oil comes to mind as they use oil like a BP disaster spills it

I have read alot of bad experiences it's just worries me il fall into the same hole so that's why if going for low mileage vehicles I can avoid engine and gearbox faults.

Don't read everything and believe it ,

Yes there's some rubbish out there . one day you will get a rouge that's without doubt .

But theres some good ones too .

We buy hundreds of cars from BCA . yes weve had a few rouges but theyve gone back , some easy some with a fight .

    Hi

I got Hyundai i10 2010 - nice car main dealer service history, MOT without any advisories. Clutch felt a bit heavy and took it my mechanic he said cables fine it needs a new clutch.

But look on Eurocarparts no clutches available. Other sites also hard to find .  Is anyone else struggling for car parts?

It will be the cable , feels like the clutch has seized  itself , Cable rusts inside  outer cable and the joints seize . .

Trust me its not the clutch ,we done loads ,  i10 cable on clutch is shite .

Feel like a new car with a new cable

How then do you deal with them slagging you off online?

Had two give it go on Autotrader reviews once a while back , had them took down as obviously lying .

Apart from that I get no trouble , probably because I'm very direct and prove they are liars .

There are more lies told by punters than there ever are by dealers. The old trick of value the car agree the deal and when they come to trade in and pick the new car up, the  tyres have mysteriously lost 5mm of tread.

Ive had that situation on a Golf R recently ,

Came in as PX , had heated leather and Pretoria wheels . Came back to exchange and it had cheap after mkt wheels with worn ling long tyres , and Cloth Seats .

His excuse was it was his car

He was then surprised i quoted him 5k less , resulted in him fetching the wheels and seats back off his mate pronto. With a red face .

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Had another one bought an Audi A3 off me , Following week was spouting off about illegal tyres , Long story short he came back with different wheels and nearly bald tyres trying to claim new tyres off us .

I shown him pictures of Black edition Wheels and Michelin tyres when he bought it 12 days previous ,

He got both barrels and a reload from me ,

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Another lying scroat told me his FABIA VRS was full service , had 5 BMW main dealer stamps , Er they don't service Skodas my friend , Called BMW and they never heard of him .

His mate had managed to get access to the Stamp no doubt .

    Hi

I'm just starting my own small trading company having worked in the industry for some time. Do other small traders have any recommendations or advice

Accounting packages - Xero, QuickBook, Sage seem to be the main ones?

Bank accounts - Starling, Tide, Monzo or just a high street name?

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

    Thanks

Lloyds bank is good , no limits on capping your payments like some do , very frustrating when you need to buy cars .

Ask your accountant what they use for accounts , or DMS like Clickdealer web sites integrated with invoices are good too .

If they are supplying  cinch makes more sense to me,  more the thought that they can basically offer what they want as most punters don’t have time to and are never going to bother selling privately.

Also I don’t know why they give quotes that high then chip of ? Why not just offer close to what they’ll give rather than pissing off every customer when they get there .

If you offer what you are going give them  they don't turn up , simple . People are inherently greedy , so high offer gets them on site  then appraise the car in question and offer whats its worth , All used cars are different and I've only ever seen two cars in decades that were what I'd call looked after .

Owners know their car is a pile of shite and they tell lies to sell it , They just need to be told face to face . High offer gets the face to face meeting .

Steady on now, we are not all horrible. That said there are some utter bell ends, usually at the anorak end of the spectrum.  Fucking good cars 911's cant deny that.

The 911 is a nice car i must admit , So I amend 99.9 % are utter bell ends :D

Its usually the Pratts with Porsche Badges and  hats , Porsche Gloves , Even had one with Porsche glasses . That comes from the last porky customer , talk the talk my god every word was abbreviated to letters and numbers , I had to ask him to speak in whole words lol . What he hadn't had was not worth talking about "boring "  Then ! like to spread the cost of this little weekend toy , Any charnce of a deal on the monthly , he only got declined didn't he , not just prime either lol one girl said he will be lucky if we lent him a pen lol .

In the old days when I had a showroom, most stock was all machine polished before sale at minimal cost. In more recent times I haven't bothered. I'm considering getting stock machine polished from now on but have no idea of the current going rate - how much is a reasonable price to pay to do the whole car?

Depends what type of stock you want polishing really .

basic run round mop with a DA will be less money than a full on iron out wash and a machine polish so no hazing and marr lines show , Specially on soft paints which need more care .

Prices across road from us are around £150 to £400 plus a choice of waxes on top afterwards

Slightly off subject from our mans original post but thought I would share. Wish I had the Zephyr in stock now ;)

A excellent post but do dealers really slag off punters clothing?

Not so much the clothing but the most feared is facial tattoos , got a body builder customer , face , neck and arms is a full tribal tattoo , hes been asked to leave as hes not the sort of customer they want , Hes absolutely minted in money . I was the person who treated him as Umesh has stated , "How i would like to be treated " he now only comes to us for cars and service .

I did have two gay guys once dressed head to foot in PINK shorts , pink trainers , Pink shirts , Camp as a row of pink tents they were , My face said it all lol they were fun though , we laughed like mad as they spoke very gay and very posh lol Good sports mind , Smart car they bought as well in bright yellow , It clashed with the pink clothes , Laughed with them not at them so all fun and very two way laughter .

Body builder is Nicest bloke you could meet he is , just likes body art . takes all sorts ,  Least he wasn't in Pink .

but in reality I belive in giving them all respect and treat them like how I would like to be treated.

First lesson I was taught Umesh , By my dad at 15 yrs old I was , "Never look down at any one he said " " Always treat people as you would wish to be treated " , That was good advice .

I've earned a good few ££££££ using that advice over the years and Thousands & Thousands  of deals .

Now £50,000 car or £1,000 px they all get the same .

Based on the replies received and reading other topics on this forum, I've decided going forward to send each potential customer the terms and conditions of my business when they enquire about a car. I might come across a bit harsh but this will hopefully weed out the time wasters and keep my business safe from people trying to impose their own rules or make my life hell after a sale. If someone is seriously interested in buying and have a bit of common sense, they'll appreciate my terms & conditions are fair.

In summary: we don't offer distance sales, we don't accept credit cards, cash transactions are subject to 1.5% admin fee, the appointment is arranged on the condition they intend to buy and not just to have a look, 10% deposit to reserve the car, copy of driving licence and a driving licence check code, test drive is 10-15 minutes on 30 to 40 mph roads to test the car is mechanically sound and not to test the car's performance, any pre-purchase inspections require a deposit to cover the inspection and transport costs.

    Have I missed anything?

I sell performance cars too , plus cheapies as well and most cars in between if I'm honest . Trick is to be like a chameleon and change to suit each customer. Smile like and assassin when they leave .

Those T&C's would have put the 4 car buyers I've had this morning well and truly OFF coming i reckon , S3 , Golf R , Golf GTD , SEAT Cupra R all sold ,

Each and every customer this morning was a completely different personality , age , and in different financial situations , different questions and different priorities , eg one was obsessed with tyres , paint condition for the other , toys inside the car on another's list , test drives and methods of payments , , me sending that list of which i would term as negatives would in my mind put them off even coming .

Now i have decades of people skills so its easy for me to talk , BUT , adapt and learn . manage each and every situation the same but in different orders , listen and learn when to strike like viper , seal the deal is the way to sell . Takes time , but its fun learning

Don't for gods sakes send that list out to customers , We are supposed to create positive vibes not a list of don'ts . You would be amazed how many customers tell me horror stories about other traders treating them wrong , deposits for test drives , not there when they arrive , spoken down to , pushy vibes , making negative talk on customers appearance is popular negative .

People skills as Rory says don't come over night , cant be taught either but and I stand corrected if I'm wrong wont start with a list like that .

Remember the customer buys ONE car every 2 to 6 yrs , they dont know our job and never will , Like the guy this morning Tattoos all over him 21 yrs old , no clue what he was asking . first question has he asked has it been painted do i know , he needed to be guided through the whole process. He thanked me for making it easy for him and took his Golf R home with a smile from ear to ear

reading your list I'll tell you now he would be gone with the wind ,

Did ask if you'd missed anything

    Hi guys,

    Hope you are all well.

I’ve just purchased a vehicle with “static gear selection (engine running)” on amber on its mechanical report.

Could anyone clarify what the general issue is with this check

The car is a manual Hyundai I10.

Clutch problem not going in gear .

BUT it also can be the clueless idiot who's checked out for the report , we bought an i10 with static gear section and it was AUTO , Nothing wrong , probably didnt know he had to pull the lever to release the gear stick , or press the brake pedal .

Sweeping up one day examining cars next day ,

make your own mind up , works its ok , Cant find 1st or reverse then they told you ,

    Could go either way ,

i dont actually hold much hope on reports anymore .

EG Renault RS megane 265 cup chassis  KNOCKING ENGINE ON REPORT , arrived by truck , now we bought to convert to track use so engine problem was irrelevant to us as it was going to get rebuilt anyway block up with forged parts . car drove off transporter NO knocking , turns out it was the air con pump pulley cover that was loose , it was in the under tray , came unbolted .

see what we are working with , complete idiots .

hope your i10 is ok .

  17. Dodged a double bullet there my friend .

Porsche buyers are horrible people , self entitled idiots thinking they are something they aren't is my description .

I've sold a few Porsches  in my time and they nearly always attract the swarms of fools .

He was trying to make his own set of rules , overruling you and your selling methods , soon as they try that with me , they get corrected or I stop the sale .

Always another bum for the seat , less trouble and less hassle for you .

He would have had checked again , sending you bills for future proofing the car . warranty claims would run into 4 figures too as that's what Porker Buyer do ,

Best deal you made was not dealing with that fool

Lease customers dirty sly games that is  , cant see the lease company or manhiem tiger sealing EML lights  , Lots of lease customers don't ever look after a car in my opinion , not that many owners do though either
