  1. £250..I did not know that. When you think about it,it should be a grand for a return and renewal,Motability Operations have few problems when you consider their directors are creaming off millions in remuneration and bonuses. With their Charitable status they have generated £2.5 billion in cash and pay out very little to good causes and it appears the government won’t intervene.
  2. Where is Mr Northard, head of Manheim and presumerably IMDA external relations when they need him.Surely we need his intervention here to promote IMDA,it is not as if he has a pitch to run like the other founder members.
  3. Nick.....What I want to know is how did you buy it ,prep it,advertise it and down it in 4 days for 20 grand and what was the deal.I think you must have sold it to your mother !
  4. No....we want to hear about deals,problems,advice....... not playing I SPY
  5. I tried to argue with BCA that the smell of Motability stuff was ‘material’ to the description for online buyers because we have had stuff where it has been impossible to remove the odour. We have actually replaced seats ,took out carpets and jet washed them and in no time the odour reappears....Of course I got nowhere with BCA so our guys just don’t buy them anymore.
  6. It is all about the wheels, always has been.My first job was washing, valeting and painting wheels.A few years back,We used to buy loads of big Chinese copy alloys ( with tyres)when the pound was stronger.By the time you sold the old wheels on EBay they were costing about £250.....A3’s in particular would fly out.
  7. OK Nick......Like ‘match of the day’.....you now have to talk us through the deal.....
  8. Whatever it is,it appears to be in 90 day blue,so it needs to be cheap !
  9. Never been able to understand the van market.Sometimes I may have bought a nice Transit, then find out that the side door is on the wrong side or it has sliding doors. We know someone who is a big time operator in ex Police dog vans,so we bought one a two....got it wrong again. Then the big problem, the punters will not pay the VAT.Specialist market,it sounds like you are good, stay with it I would say.
  10. Sub prime punters are a headache, crap swappers,no commission. We tell the chucky duffers If they want to buy the car,get their own finance. It can take ages to get these people accepted and they never return for another car.We have prime finance punters who return time and time again and look after their swappers which you can then retail again.
  11. I am sure Nick is a good guy Arfur.I am just trying to get across how he should deal with the next BCA Assured misdescribed Car where he could be a grand out of pocket. You cannot be suspended for complaining about a misdescribed car, despite what people are saying......I want all the guys on here to do well.
  12. Pre tax profits £210m on £310m T/O.....Bastards ! That puts our job in perspective. The next kick in the teeth will be the BCA results at the end of the month.( they are expecting record results )

  15. Nick,I have got to tell you,if you are going to be any good at this job,you cannot be a ‘soft touch’.At some stage you may be cruising along doing well and then HMRC pick you out for a random enquiry and creatively asess you for 6 figures. You cannot roll over and your accountant does not want to upset HMRC,you have to fight on your own. So do I have to explain our court case again with BCA,as I cannot find it in the history on here.
  16. Hi Epv.....Yes,we did.I have already described our case,I am trying to find it in my history. However on 8th April I describe another run in with BCA which does refer to suspending accounts.....If necessary I will recount our case later on.
  17. How many cars do Lawgistics buy ? Ask them for evidence.Plenty of people get suspended or terminated but it is for their wrongdoing. They have been at Measham for awhile
  18. So Andy, can we have your experience of this.
  19. It’s different for everyone who has been around in this job for years. Most recent Klondyke period for us was 94 to 98 with 2 other periods years earlier. It can be very upsetting for millennial car dealers when the old guys reminisce about ‘the good old days’.
  20. Pardon me......That is bollocks......In which case we would have been barred years ago.BCA/Manheim or whoever auction it may be are acting on behalf of their vendor.
  21. The thing about grading is it differs around the country. We could bid on a Grade 5 online confidently from Paddock Wood because it would usually be the equivalent of a Grade 2 at Glasgow. It is the sort of thing you find out the hard way but it is valuable knowledge to have.
  22. When we had a main road pitch,we had big Sold tickets.During the Klondyke years, punters who enquired about sold stuff,we used to offer to do them a favour and put them ‘in the book’ to get flrst chance of the next one. They loved that. Now with AT sometimes we might buy a dozen Astra estates but say we have 27.A few days later change the ad to only 13 left,it does hurry up the punters.
  23. Ben You don’t need to bother with grades.Work out your selling price and work backwards, you are not buying online.
  24. Look at it from a BCA point of view. They must get hundreds of complaints from the trade every day and from what I understand most of those which are settled are without bothering their vendor. It is far cheaper for them to give dealers the runaround as most just give up or settle for a lot less.I was told this by one of their top guys when we had them in court,it cost them a few grand but they were not going to debit their leasing company vendors account.....We do of course remind them of this every time we make a claim, but you still have to fight them.
  25. £66,it’s not worth the bother.Good result for them.We would never have accepted that. You have to threaten them with court action,we often do it.Our guys just got £1000 back on a 15 Mini with knackered clutch. It takes a few weeks.
