  1. It's £1000 a month. I guess we're really lucky.
  2. Just my two cents but 9 is a depressingly low number. What if you have 1 or 2 that aren't ready for sale? Or part ex's? They then take up space and you're down on stock with less likely hood of selling and less flexibility. I find it's a numbers game sometimes, the more you have the greater flexibility you have and selling ancient stock cheap doesn't hurt as much. In terms of premises we held out and made sure we got an established site with footfall. When the phone aren't ringing you'd be surprised how many times someone's wandered on and bought something. Which is really uplifting too. We have upto 30 spaces (we're never full though), there's two of us and we make a living.
  3. I think my comment was fuelled by a 50 mile drive to see a "perfect" 4x4 X Trail which turned out to be a scruffy 2WD X Trail.
  4. Over a year?? Jesus. So that's one new battery and alot of valeting? How many do you keep in stock at one time?
  5. You've set up a business but you don't know where to get stock from?! Auctions are overpriced and oversubscribed. eBay is full of rubbish. Private ads are most likely hiding a problem. Other dealers selling ''cheap px's'' are probably hiding a problem and if they're not why aren't they making money on them? Facebook is junk. How many will you stock and do you want to sell a month, what market are you aiming at and what's a good living to you? I'll tell you if I think it's possible.
  6. Hi all, A dealer and I were having a chat down the block today and he got a phone call from an irate customer - a car he sold about 6 weeks ago now has a head gasket failure. I gave him some advice (repair or replacement CRA 2015) and told him the best way to resolve it amicably without it escalating. He sold the car with a third party warranty and they have refused to fix the car on the basis of part service history... surprise, surprise. Obviously he was keen to see the car and inspect it before carrying out the work but the customer has now sent him the bill having authorised the work at her garage a few days ago. They are trying to recoup the full amount of the repair - around £1500. This includes a head gasket replacement, cambelt, diagnostics, etc etc. The car was sold for around the £1500, not to mention had done around 100k and was over 10 years old, and he and I are certain the repairs could have been carried out more cost effectively... if he were liable that is. My feeling is: - it seems unreasonable behaviour to have the car repaired elsewhere and then call to expect the full amount to be paid. - there's no evidence, besides the invoice for the work, that there was a fault or that it was present at the time of sale. It's possible the car had a minor fault and the customer's garage extorted them for financial gain. - the worst case, if it were to go to court, is that he would be made to pay what he would have paid for the repair so he should get a quote from his garage just incase. Thought it was an interesting one to put out there for opinions
  7. We all have cars for sale so what kind of car are you after? I'd recommend all of mine, obviously... because they're the best. Shush - this is as close to an enquiry as I've got all day
  8. One of the lessons I'm still struggling with is that you can't trust customers one bit. I wouldn't go anywhere near the idea of a 7 day change your mind policy. People will abuse it and you. This job seems to change you for the worst if you let it and people in this country seem to resent the idea that you sold them a car and made a profit.
  9. Excellent month so far and a massive improvement on last month but this weekend looks to be a complete wash out. No one about.
  10. Pleased to report we've picked up as we sold 5 yesterday. The month is still the worst we've had but at least we're off beans on toast for now. Sun's out aswell, which is always good news.
  11. I did something similar to this in another market. You will always get the trade on board until they realise there's no the online visitors. As with everything online you have to ask 'where is the benefit to the user?'
  12. Hi all - long term lurker and new member. I had to sign up to say - YES! We've been operating out of our premises for nearly 8 months now and have been consistently achieving 18-22 cars per month (December, Jan Feb were all excellent for us). This month is something else though we've done 7 cars so far, well, 8 including a money-backer we sold yesterday. In terms of money it means we're less than halfway towards where we would normally be. I don't know what's going on and have tried everything from looking at our stock, cleaning and rephotoing, price dropping and I even considered using AT, anyway, anyone have any theories? Maybe we just have to ride it out. Bring on April!
