I remember being told a fair few years ago in the infancy of ebay, that the best time to finish an auction was sunday evening, allegedly this is when most people are at home and scanning the net. My mate claimed that he consistently sees better money from Auctions ending on a Sunday evening than any other time... I also remember from my days of standing in the cold at Blackbush, never buy a small car from them on a Friday, the place was teeming with private buyers, Dads looking to buy their daughter a cheap first car, they came on a friday and that way had the weekend to play with the purchase !

MG6. I had a look round one at the weekend (neighbour had one for a few days, I hasten to add, I have no intention of buying one) and he chucked me a cheap and shiny lump of plastic and said 'see if you can start the car'. It turns out you need to depress the clutch, stick the nasty plastic block into a hole in the dash, and hold it down until the rattly coal fired stove starts before taking your finger off the crudely printed logo on the end of the 'key'. Whoever thought that was a good idea needs to be made to spend some quality time driving an MG6...

I think he means best offer with classified listings, I personally hate the idea, I would want to know they are in a position to do deal the same day if I was to accept an offer they made. Most would just be testing your resolve.

I'll be sure to Jim! I'm only a couple of years behind you but life started all over again for me this summer after a very, very close brush with the grim reaper. I never thought I'd be starting a new career at my age, never mind selling motors, but I love it and find it very natural. See you at the awards next year!

Ian, as James said you have to be 'in it to win it' We proved that this year, scooping two awards thanks to our Team Reid! and a Highly Commended, i'm a fresh faced 44 year old! and my Sales Manager who won Upsales and F&I Performance of the Year is only 23 years old, with less than 5 years in the trade, so as James said , get your self entered! it was a great night!

There's room for all in these awards. We have one specifically for smaller dealers like you - Used Car Dealer of the Year (under 50 cars in stock). Got to be in it to win it...

Urgh you've reminded me of a horrible drive back from Barcelona in a Cooper S, with a broken seat that wouldn't move back (I'm 6' 2") - whoever thought that might be fun? Oh, hang on...I did! I wished I'd never sold my first car - a FIAT Mirafiori - that was handed down to me, when I say sold it what I mean is the fact that I wrote it off four days after passing my test. I was heartbroken and sat amidst the crumpled remains sobbing. I vowed I'd never drive again, I was so upset. My Dad offer of driving his XJS did the trick though and I was soon back behind the wheel. But, for all it's rust, dodgy carburettor, rust, joke/choke, rust, rust and er, rust I'd love to see that old beauty drive round the corner and back into my life. With that car went my driving dreams. Well at least for a year or so. RIP my X reg Mirafirori - Rust In Peace.
