Casper 272 Posted February 2, 2020 In all honesty by the time you take the purchase price the cost of the labour or time to do the repair the cost of the box etc wheres the profit its scrap or off to the block and let someone take there chances on it I'm sure we have all been there with a cheap auction car buy or px that looked tidy thinking it wont be much only to spend more on it then realise its not worth it if you really must fix it the advice is still as mark said the second hand box but learning from previous mistakes stuff like that is rarely worth the bother then you have all the trouble if it has other faults or something goes wrong keep us posted
New year revolutions...... 197 Posted February 2, 2020 If the heated rear window still works make a big play of it in your spares repair advert that you will have warm hands at least while you push it around town and up the big hills.

Mistermuttley 19 Posted February 2, 2020 Maybe change the gearbox fluid. Might be a long shot but some auto's work a lot better just by changing the oil. If its that old it may be knackered.

Halfpenny 114 Posted February 3, 2020 These used the Jatco JF404E which was fitted to a few small cars of that era. A decent enough box but yours is 17 years old. Normally they start to fail by slipping in 1st and 2nd when cold and work ok when warmed up. Fluid change won't help much. Basically it is age and wear and tear. I suspect you will struggle to find a decent 'warrantable' used box.
