tradegirl 112 Posted August 1, 2019 Hi everyone. Looking at buying a 2014 Golf, with apparently only 20k on it. The car's reg works on AT, it works on the DVLA tax check site, but isn't recognised on the MOT history site. HPI has no mileage records either. The car's had a plate change in the past, but nothing on that either. Worried it's been clocked, and I don't think VW have a central database. It's 4.5 hours away from me at auction, and I won't be able to check it on time. Any ideas? Thanks

Casper 272 Posted August 1, 2019 (edited) I've seen that too sometimes it takes a bit of time to update after a plate transfer not ages but maybe a week or so also the tax one always seem to update first . also sometime it happens if the car is an import Edited August 1, 2019 by Casper
It's me 615 Posted August 2, 2019 so to summarise it might have a mileage anomaly its a million miles away its obviously cheap and nobody else wants it its had a plate change and showing low mileage so probably hiding a vcar tag too nothing to lose then get it bought
JA Trader 58 Posted August 2, 2019 Id be tempted with it for a gamble if it was cheap enough. Has it got any service history ? Possibly been exported to one of the islands and come back ?
MattR 177 Posted August 2, 2019 VW do have a database with service etc recorded on it. One of the traders near to you can access the service details.

Gamble it away and kick yourself later. Called VW they said the mileage is all ok, and by the sounds of it it has good history but I have to go into the dealer to get it. No one else wanted it, only 1 Irish bidder on it. Worried sick, but at the price I got it, I can easily offload it and get my money back. If it's all good and straight, I'm quids in. 9 hours ago, tradex said: He who dares, sorry She who dares I just nicked a Aygo in a similar story This is what I'm hoping, tradex. I'll know 10am Monday. If not, the sea is a stone's throw away, I'll at least have had an expensive day out haha.
