Seat Ibiza strange dash light behaviour

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Just got a Seat Ibiza in 2012 reg. Automatic

When driving the instrument cluster is fine, no lights on, as long as the car is in any gear. So when stopped at traffic lights in D, it's fine.

When I put it into P and take my foot off the brake, the handbrake light and cruise control light come on dimly in the background. As soon as I put my foot on the brake, they disappear.

When I apply the handbrake, the coolant light, power steering light and cruise control light come on faintly in the background. The handbrake light is of course on, at full brightness as is the green "apply brake" light.

When I apply the brake with the handbrake on, the power steering, coolant, and the green "apply brake" light are on dimly in the background.

As soon as I put it into gear and release the handbrake, even without rolling, everything returns to normal.

Any ideas? Looked online but nothing of the same symptoms.

TIA.

sounds like a cluster fault

if it was a general cluster fault

would the horn work? as he had problems with little bighorn

of course to me it sounds more like a wrong bulb fitted in brake light system or faulty brake switch

just sayin......

This but I'd take it out and make sure it's not been tampered with.

I once saw a 3 Series where someone had wired the the eml light to the battery light to make it all look normal on start up.

Whiclt it's out, check the connections and definitely the earths.

Yes sounds like a bad earth, I had a renault which made other lights come on i.e indicator made the abs light up, foglight made service light come on, the pcb board on the cluster was knackered.

Ok thank you. Electrician had it out and mentioned something about trying to solder something, but it not working.

Not sure what I'm looking for but will take it out myself and have a look. It's nothing dodgy on the EML, as the EML was on when we bought it and we've sorted the fault and it went off.

Will check the brake lights too and see what's going on. Thank you!

I'm not sure if you have ever seen the Clint Eastwood film, Heartbreak Ridge? But I read what you wrote wrong.

What caused the eml to show originally?

Has it got the original stereo?

EPV it was the spark plugs. And yes original stereo in it.

Be worth ensuring all ground points are in good fettle before going further, but then again, any decent would already have checked this.

Thank you. Sorry I called you EPV, I was half asleep!
