I think a lot of these batteries are now leased.Does anyone know how these leases are transferred and who is liable in the event of default.I can forsee all sorts of potential problems in the future selling a Nissan Leaf with a leased battery pack on finance  to a sub prime chucky duffer.These Cars still don’t make sense to me,I have seen them doing good money at the block with owned batteries and the battery power is depleted to 40 miles per charge according to the dash.There may be promises of £2000 for recon batteries in the future but I understand the current going rate is £4000.

If anyone has good info about buying these at the block when they are 4 or 5 years old,I would like to hear it.

40 miles left on current charge maybe. Not 40 between charges. 

Most seem to have 8 or 10 out of 12 battery health from what I see. 

Ignore electric cars at your peril I think. Bloody brilliant things. That BMW i3 in particular.  I know Nick will agree and has had a few. Far less to go wrong/less moving parts, no engine, gearbox (no German crap auto gearbox rebuilds, axle etc  no cambelts, dpf, dmf etc  no fluids to change - they’re even better on brakes due to the motors slowing the car down (go into reverse I believe and so charge the battery?) and you hardly need to touch the brake pedal ever.

I remember the old boys moaning about front wheel drive cars and plastic in cars. I think this is no different. 

With regards to the leased batteries, the change of ownership is easily transferred. I had a Renault Twizzy a while back and the punter transferred the lease easily and I never heard a thing.

In reality they are no more Environmentally Friendly than a modern ICE engined vehicle, actually they are worse due to the Lithium Mining etc etc .....................

There are many question marks about electric vehicles.As far as I know,there are only 4 companies in the world manufacturing the batteries and over 50% of the lithium comes from Chile.So you just need a shut down at one of those companies or supply problems in Chile and the price of batteries will go through the roof......Maybe hybrids are the future as there appears to be not enough lithium to supply an upsurge in sales of all electric vehicles....

Also if IC Engines are outlawed and everyone has to switch to electric, there will be not enough capacity on national grid to charge 'em all

Bus company in Inverness is using a few Electric Buses, has had to install monster Diesel Gennys as the sub station cannot supply enough juice

Yeah- Hybrids will be the first popular wave.  They still have batteries remember.

I really didn't want to like them and I REALLY didn't want to like electric cars.  To any doubters, I'd say, go drive one and then make your mind up.

When we’ve all gone fully electric will that mean half of the streets in England will be a trip hazard with leads running from peoples houses to their cars?

I can’t see them working out for anyone who hasn’t got a detached home with off-road parking or a London flat with underground parking. Perhaps I’m just naive.

The future is charging points on lampposts and bollards at the kerbside.

As mentioned above, there seems to be good demand for full electric cars, we have a couple of BL Zoe’s pool cars, biggest problem now is we only have one point at the office so use the local Sainsburys to charge but the spaces are often full with the same people sitting in their cars everyday. 

PHEV (plug in Hybrids) I am not so sure about, we do loads as there are massive company car tax savings (I drive a 330e) but residuals don’t seem that great as the early cars come out of warranty.

I have driven quite a few Hybrids and EV's including a Tesla that lives in Plockton. Not impressed, I'm a die hard Petrol Head, always have been

I can see the point of a small Electric or PHEV for City Use, maybe even use a PHEV for local use in a rural area.

For anyone in a remote area and / or who travels length and breadth of the country, like me, GIMME a fuckin great V8 to use once or twice a week / special occasions and a quick CDI as a DD forever

Don’t quote me exactly but that i3 is seriously quick (Tesla more so) Something like 168bhp and 0-60 in six seconds. I was seriously impressed . Leaf a bit more dull but no more so than a Micra etc. In fact it’s better  

Agreed in remote areas maybe, but if, like me and pretty much everyone I know, you only do about 80 to a 100 miles a week in your own car (my Mrs does about 6 miles a day at most, then charging is a non issue. 

Most people I know have driveways.

Anyway, we’re all different. World would be a boring place otherwise.

The trouble is where we are, just to go to the Co-Op is 28 mile round trip, Inverness is 120 miles as is FW 

I've not driven an i3 yet, but yeah that Tesla was much quicker to 50mph than my S55K , but by the time we got to 80 my big Merc just fucked off away from him 

The guy who owns the Tesla is a buddy, we ran the pair of 'em down the old Broadford Airstrip side by side, just like Top Gear it was  

Do not try that at Royal Docks, Gatwick or Heathrow etc

I heard on a London based talk radio show last week, during a conversation about leccy vehicles/congestion charges etc, that quite a few streets now have multiple charging points, might be wrong but sure the suggestion was they were as regular as lamp posts in some areas.. I'd guess this was just inner city areas... I think all ministerial cars now are leccy, with the exception of a bomb proof one for the great leader @ No10

Fuck knows where these inner city charging points are. I’ve been schlepping around Belgravia, Fitzrovia & Primrose Hill for the last week & didn’t notice a single charging point.

I was in Glasgow at the weekend, didn't see a single one, but I am still of the opinion that when significant numbers are plugged in then the National Grid will not cope and the result will be Power outages

I was listening to Talkradio and the presenter was commenting on a new car purchase he is making this year, he is letting an F Pace diesel go and was not convinced to go electric (mentioning a tesla to replace).. some shirley temple/tree hugging type on the phone rang into to say he must consider leccy in central London as the issue with charging was all sorted!! Probably a ruddy cyclist too..

I did think it was a bit odd, but then again I'm not in the SE often these days so wouldn't know a leccy charger from a knife collection point..

Totally stand corrected by @BHM as I'm sure half the tripe that comes over on the shows is media spin or self appointed expert hype... I'm heading toward opinions again, this will only lead to politics and those who know what is best for us... Where I'll surely lose it... In summary, no chargers on the streets of ole London town.. TTFN

If your plates are legal, contest it with a Motoring Specialist Lawyer, and put in a huge claim for out of pocket exes

If you are in Scotland use Dominic Sellar, Bath Street Glasgow, got me off a well over 100mph ticket with 4 points and £370 fine, (if I'd gone to court myself I'd still be on a ban now, probably jail too  ), not expensive as lawyers go either, IIRC that cost me about £400, if you add the fine and his fee = £770, I'd have got more on my own, probably around £1500, long ban and 6 months porridge !!

That guy is fuckin' good !!

I would second going lawyered up if you have a speeding.. take one that doesnt like feds or magistrates if your can find the beast .. I spent around £700 too on bringing my man out to play..  once in the court house he insisted in going up second before the beak, spoke to usher and told them to sort it.. I was still trying to get my back passage in order when I heard this request.. 

He told me to look sorry and also explained we are getting in there before before their arses get warm on the chair.. I was well north of 100mph... six points and £200 fine, plus £450 for him being out for the day.. I would have been off the road without him and had a company car/travelling job! So likely out of work...  

One line he took was that I demonstrated Extra Ordinary ability not driving at 99mph or 101mph, but exactly 100mph.. "Something" your worships must agree, demostrates excellent control of the vehicle.. then it was the Plods turn, nil traffic on the motorway, early morning, warm fine clear day in June.. So your worships, the Plod have stated here he was presenting no risk to other road users ... I thought they were going to chuck the book... he basically outlined the sentencing guidelines plus a spot of mitigation..

We walked after around 25mins and me looking sorry the whole time... When we came out, I was told my brief was not going back to his offices that day.. he had got us tickets to the test cricket match nearby.. He knew I had a day off work and would not have a car "as he knew I would not be sure of the outcome" ... That was the remaining £50 of my bill.... he had brought a change of clothes in his bag and tapped me up for ales all day... all but retired now.. a class act..

I have several of the S xx DAU 's in a series, the Cars look good parked in our drive next to each other !!

I have B17 OOT , with a French 7, from when I used to Barefoot Waterski, it reads B/FOOT which is how the Barefooting is referred to in Waterski circles

I paid a couple hundred quid off DVLA for it way back, and got offered £4500 for it at a Barefoot Tournament at Thorpe Park one summer  

I also have D15 KOE on my Van, all the locals here call me 'Disco Dave', I DJ'd the Pubs, Hotels / Village Hall Weddings and Parties, plus Holiday sites for years up here, that's how I got to know so many folk around these parts when we first moved up here .................

I only jacked that in in Jan this year as the Garage business is now very busy and I'm getting too old for lugging all that heavy eqpt in and out of venues late at night, do miss "The Craic" tho  

I've never paid more than £400 inc T/fer for a plate off DVLA, and I wouldn't, well I might pay a little more for a "MEL" one for her B/Day this year, she currently has B17OOT on her Car atm, MEL 'series' are quite a sought after plate obviously, same reason I couldn't get DAV 's at a sensible price range
