Taxing a car with no V5C/2

Recommended Posts

I've just picked up a C3 bought on DA. I have the V5C but no green slip attached.

Can this be taxed at the Post Office just using the V5C when changing keeper?

Not come across this senario before...

Pretty certain you can do online. You just need to put a number in front of the doc ref on the front. Cant remember if any number will do but it can only be between 1 and 9 ;)

If you tax at post office then you have to register it at the same time and they keep the v5. If you don't want to mess around going to the post office then any number inserted in front the doc ref number will work on line. I have done it plenty of times.

Hope this helps

Wow, every day is a school day.

What about registering a car to a customer if you only have the NKS - can this process be reversed?

Providing the car is in trade then I would presume yes. Just remove the 1st number from the ref on the green slip. Never tried it this way before though

Even if it isn't you can use that same ref (minus FIRST digit) to put it in trade first.

yes

go to post office fill in new keeper details

new keeper normally gets log book in 2 weeks

be sure to check all details are correct on receipt even if road tax free

give customer receipt and tell them to keep it with car until tax shows on dvla website or they might get pulled for no tax (happened to one of my customers late last year on the m25 of all places)it can take 5 days

Thanks all for your help.

Online with random number in front saves me a trip to post office when it's sold

I know someone said this already but I can't remember when or where to look for it!

When you check online if a car is taxed,

What message at the bottom of the screen tells you if the car is in trade or not please?

Many thanks!
