You have a slow air leak (I would think the thin plastic tubing) and have had it for a while. The compressor now works more than it should and if left like this might pack up eventually.

/\ /\ /\ Absolutely, more likely a leaking Air Bag than pipe, but yeah these Compressors do not like working too hard.

DO NOT fit a Chinese EBay Airbag :(

Most factors are now doing Arnott which are great and cheaper than OEM. Chinesium last 5 minutes, then leave you stranded, and that's if they actually work right outta the Box !!

Update : requires new engine at £17k + fitting

Car now has now been written off.

I just can not comprehend how water has entered the engine with such a high intake.

I regularly drive through that ford in lower cars at the same level.

That doesn't surprise me in the least :lol:

I would not drive through a Ford in any modern Car, 4x4's like Land Rovers, Hi Lux etc fair enough.

I'd buy it back if cheap enough, fit a salvage Engine to it and have the Carpets out / de humidify and dielectric grease connectors at low level / under Carpet etc just in case ;) 

I get a lot of Cars wet under Carpets up here, usually leaves and crap blocking the water drains. I clean the drains every full service ;)

multiple modules would have me runnin for the hills

once had a ka that ponged,gutted the inside out found stagnant water in the plastic cups that were supposed to keep the door speakers dry,i guess it had at some time driven through a very large ford or a vauxhall:D

I'd have love to have inspected it myself and checked if the air filters managed to get wet. (I doubt it) Very strange

At least they have insurance, it will go down as a fault claim though.

That will be back on a forecourt somewhere with a huge profit across it in a few months. If I were nearer I'd love to buy that back if your family didn't want it and the Insurance were sensible on a salvage price ;)

I know roughly what Dronsfields would bid for it, and it isn't a lot ;)

Re Viano, a new airbag cured the problem:) 

Now I have another... just tried to start and the key won’t turn in the ignition, tried the spare absolutely the same. The car locks and unlocks by the remote and all of the dash lights come on as normal, the key simply won’t turn....

Bastard !!

Needs SDS to look at Drive Auth in various modules, is it very cold where you are ??

EIS's first show failure symptoms in real cold weather, try warming it slightly with a hairdrier, but don't go mental, if it works, get a locksmith who knows MB well to fix it don't call the first cowboy you see, many an MB has been scrapped because of inept fiddlers with "Theft relevant" Parts ;)

BTW, Key Batteries have no effect on Starting / Turning Ignition, and whatever you do do not try and force it to turn the EIS

You could also check the Fuses and Pre Fuses, especially if a sudden failure ;)

Would giving the steering wheel a wiggle help on a Viano? Like a car with a mechanical steering lock when the steering locks held to one side under tension from the front suspension

AD - have you parked it with a lot of steering lock ?

I had this with a Merc recently, had to tug the wheel whilst putting the key in because the steering angle tripped the immobiliser

The front wheels and steering wheel are straight. Use an MB Key Specialist, they will have the right kit and more important the knowledge to deal with it.

I can Diagnose an EIS problem without needing Ignition On ;)

Steering Locks have naff all to do with it, the Locking "Bolt" is driven by an Electric Motor, no direct coupling to the EIS / Key, if you listen carefully the Steering Lock comes off as you insert the key, not as you turn it, you can hear the brief "motor running".

I wish this site would let me upload photo's, I don't use hosting sites now since the great Photo Bucket debacle !! They wrecked a trillion of my in depth technical posts on other Forums by removing my photies !! I only do photies now on Forums that can host them ;)

Let us know the outcome, my money is on Pre Fuse or EIS ;)
