twerp 69 Posted October 8, 2018 (edited) Hello, I have a W204 2008 which will not turn over because the steering lock will not disengage. Car was parked on full lock to the right. Any pointers please ? EDIT : Ignore, just needed a little wiggle ! Edited October 8, 2018 by twerp

DHill 16 Posted October 8, 2018 Common problem, it's the flux capacitor at fault.

Dave2302 387 Posted October 8, 2018 /\ /\ /\ They should come off as soon as key goes in EIS, no need to turn key, but yeah, if it's under tension on a lock, it may need a slight rock side to side

lastyboy 23 Posted October 8, 2018 Very common fault. If it wont come off, the unit and key may have to go away for repair. Done a couple

lastyboy 23 Posted October 8, 2018 Just now, boring dave said: no wonder they went to push button then german engineering at its finest my lada riva never failed and it had a good heater Agreed. All Ladas had good heaters. Back in the days sold a few of the 4 wheel drive lookalikes. Cossacks or something? 1 minute ago, boring dave said: no wonder they went to push button then german engineering at its finest my lada riva never failed and it had a good heater Issue withe the Mercs is normally the little electric motor in the steering column fails. Allegedly you can get a similar one from Maplins but never tried. If the lock wont disengage the car will not start. There are a few companies repairing them but you have to send the lock, the key and the eis unit.

I often wonder about these kinds of services I see theres a guy who offers virgin Corsa ecus on ebay for £250+ Seems like something you can learn from Youtube and you can buy a whole Corsa for a few quid, let alone a stack of ECUs from a scrap yard.
