Tom 164 Posted June 29, 2014 Do any of you deal with van sales or have a small selection of vans? Do you find them good news? I know clean low mileage vans are hard to find with service history and particularly now recession is over could vans sales make more of a comeback?
James Baggott 227 Posted July 1, 2014 Van sales are supposed to be one of the first things that rebound after a recession. We recently had a chat with an LCV specialist at work and he told us this has been true for some time. As new businesses start up again they invest in products to facilitate their jobs - I think now would be a great time to invest in vans.
sparky 274 Posted July 2, 2014 Know of a couple of dealers close to me who seem to selling plenty of vans. One deals in mainly over 5 year old, up on the mileage stock stock. The other deals in very late stuff with little margin in it. My choice would be to go with what the former does but to be honest, it's hard enough trying to buy 5 year old plus diesel cars that don't need a flywheel, DPF or EGR valve that have been looked after, let alone a van that has been used by an employee who couldn't car less about it. On the plus side I guess your van man ain't as fussy. As long as the windows go down, CD works and it doesn't look like a painter's radio then it's chocs away. I guess also your van man isn't going to do the rounds and see what's out there, 'talk to the boss', consult those lovely folk at Parkers or bring it back if a bulb goes. Hmmm, someone pass over the LCV catalogue....
Wheelerdealer1 91 Posted July 4, 2014 I've only ever sold 2 vans and they both flew out, so really something I would like to get into, any tips?
metcars 397 Posted July 5, 2014 I don't get involved with vans, but I'd always thought that they were a winner regardless of the economic climate. After all, when times are hard, many people get a van to use at the weekend to pick up a few quid, whether its gardening, DIY, cleaning etc. I think the difference is that in the boom times the vans are newer/better condition! I have to say that in my area window cleaners now seem to favour old Focus estates
Ray J 0 Posted July 7, 2014 Firstly I love selling vans! Especially 03 - 07 plate car derived vans, such as the Citroen Berlingo / Peugeot Partner etc! Because they are small enough to not be intrusive, yet big enough to get most small tradesmen off to work! My advice is stay away from the 1.6 HDI engine vans and go 1.9 D (or higher regarding Transit size) The 1.6 HDI can be very troublesome, as im sure allot of the other dealers on here will agree? The BIG plus is if you can buy the vans under the margin VAT scheme, rather than + VAT! Any van that does not have the added cost of 20% on top of its screen price will always be good news, to both the dealer and the buyer! As most people that start a small business are not VAT registered from the get go so cannot claim the VAT back! Best of luck
Andy Entwistle 96 Posted July 7, 2014 The biggest challenge behind selling any commercials is the sheer number of different variations and floor plans. Small Car derived or transits are bread and butter, but beyond there the specialists make their money by knowing how to value a specific variant ! A good friend tried to start T2T vans, but jet got the numbers all wrong on the specialist stuff
