CrazeUK 0 Posted April 3, 2023 Hi All. New dealer here. I purchased a lemon from BCA it seems. The car was a grade 4, 86k warrantied miles. It came with a Assured check, the vehicle was purchased beginning of Feb for £6 On collecting the vehicle we noticed 3 main issues that where not listed: 1. electric boot lid had an arm missing which meant it wouldnt open, stay open and it was slightly out of alignment and wouldn't lock properly. 2. Sunroof blind was not functional. 3. some vibration when moving from static and a very sluggish gear change. BCA asked us to send a video, which we did. They said they will send an engineer out. A few weeks later BCA sent a third party engineering firm ACE, the guy literally spent 5 mins with the car, drove it up a car park and back. Said the sluggish change and vibrations on moving from static where normal and within params. BCA rejected the claim. We went ahead and had the vehcile MOT'd. The mechanic made an observation and said the transmission felt wrong and the clutch was about to go. They also wrote a letter as a quote / statement of their observations. I gave it to.my customer who was pregnant and due to have give birth. i then had the sunroof blind repaired and noticed the entire roof was cracked. (You can't see it from outside as it's tinted unless you look top down). The customer drove it 100 miles down the M1 and the clutch totally failed to her Panic on the M1 with 2 year old. Went back to BCA who escalated the claim with a letter from the mot garage. They still rejected it. The costs are now mounting up: £600 sunroof glass (not fitted) £300 boot strut (not fitted) £1500 semi auto clutch (fitted). What are my next steps? I am scared if I do anything to piss them off they will close my auction account..my only reasonable way of purchasing right now. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Huggins 17 Posted April 5, 2023 Standard BCA "customer care" you only have two options unfortunately a, suck it up and keep running the gauntlet or b, stop buying off of the slippery scumbags. Halfpenny 114 Posted April 6, 2023 Bunch of pirates IMHO. If it will start and drag itself a few yards then it passes 'BCA Assured'. The question is, do you need them more than they need you? Try to take any kind of formal action against them and your account WILL be terminated. I look at prices being paid, at fees and delivery, at repair/reconditioning costs and marketing costs and I really wonder at how the small time trader is making any money. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Unfortunately it appears to me that the bottom line is that it doesn’t matter whether it was from BCA or any other auction , I think a judge might say that as a professional car dealer having PDI’d the car ,you have forfeited your chance of making any further claim regarding a misleading Assured Report by retailing the vehicle with known faults to an innocent member of the public. As a newbie,you will need to factor in that with on line buying you should find that you get far more bonuses than penalties so just ‘ take your medicine’ and move on.I might add,if this is your first year operating on your own,even if you have been in the trade as a salesman for years,be prepared as you might be faced with set backs you never even thought of. BCA issues aside it would appear you have limited mechanical knowledge, then having been advised by a technician that the clutch was about to expire you then chose to retail the vehicle to a consumer who experienced a failure of the clutch shortly after purchase. Do you mean from me? - I am no mechanic, also given ACE ("specialist engineers") felt the car was right and it was normal operating behaviour of the type of vehicle and transmission, it was okay to go. Also, this was more of a "favour" (wife's friend) than an actual sale (with profit). As it happens, I have taken the car back, and i am footing the bill of having the shed repaired.
