I'm presuming next gear and bca didn't put a gun to the head of dealers when they were considering signing up? You live by the sword....

Indeed very valid point, same as any borrowing for me it should be used short to medium term with a plan to wean yourself of it and build your own fund.

  2. The cynic in me cant help thinking what a neat set up this is, sell a car grade 3 to a dealer the dealer then puts it on plan spends there own money to turn the car into grade 2-1, all of a sudden you cant pay and bca turn up collect the car put it through the ring as a grade 1-2 for clearly more money charge the dealer for the default and collection re-action fee admin costs ect invoke the personal guarantee if the dealer cant pay.

I have seen far more riskier investments.

It must be an awfull worry for you Arthur. All the main dealer groups and car supermarkets have huge stock facilites,I doubt it will be the same for them.I would have thought you should be able to renegotiate the terms because the government has prevented you from trading .I would be getting a commercial lawyer to look at the T@C’s ,other than that I know very little about stocking loans..

The costs in that would be mind blowing, you would need a court order to set aside any pending action which alone would be straight into tens of thousands. Being morally correct doesnt always = a win against deep pockets.

  4. A very valid point however if you think this through the courts can only ever act on legislation as it stands so personal guarantees will stand, i could never see government changing that statue it would make borrowing almost impossible and the economy would have even less options to recover.

In my earlier post didn’t mean to sound flippant 1.5m is way above my pay grade that would give me sleepless nights that’s for sure.

a lot of dealers would rather not discuss such matters in the open forum maybe you would get more answers if you joined the forum and asked a similar question in the dealers only section.

hope it works out for you however this shit show unravels.

    Good Afternoon All,

Firstly I hope you are all keeping well? And hope business / enquiries are up?

I can’t help but notice, there’s a large amount of “Multivendor Online Only” cars.

Just as we went into lock down, these cars actually had actually vendors / AA reports with them, and now they don’t. Instead have come back on as multi vendor.

I’d have a guess at saying some people got tempted with the price, and got their pants pulled down upon seeing / hearing the car?

    for example: LX64 ETR & LB15 EKO

There’s some bargains to be had, but things like this make me approach it with caution.

If you have big enough pockets or balls to buy a merc auto with no report at all crack on, he who dares rodney and all that.

Probably not the best place to post this

I don’t see what rules are being broken, we have a fully prepared workshop opened to service and repair any front line workers vehicles so far we have changed a battery hardly a money spinner but hey ho, now we have people wishing to view a car via a click and collect type system who is to say there not front line workers I didn’t. Two of the customers have already asked could we hold onto the cars should they like them until lockdown is over.

And to be honest if anyone moans about it just have a look outside your local b&q or corner shop our local corner shop has now added outdoor bbq,a and compost outside his shop and is doing a great trade, hardly essential purchase yet nothing is said to them.

  7. I agree with Rory plenty of noise coming in now from advertising got three viewings firmed up for next week already, there are far to many people who talk themselves into misery these days.

top tip I have discovered during this carnage is that reading constant negative news will make you negative and you won’t even know it has done it.

More bullshit.I do not know any good workshops who were down 50% before lockdown. The problem I constantly hear is that they cannot get good all round mechanics anymore. There must be thousands of vacancies.I know one place who recently employed a good all round mechanic, overall it took 6 months to get him.It is probably easier to sign an out of contract top premier league striker.

Out mot station / garage has gone back to taking kids from college and training them up in house the shortage of skilled staff is a real problem for them.

Dont think you read my earlier post.

The pandemic doesn't mean there will be no mots in the future for cars.

Once lockdown is lifted cars will need an mot and there will be a huge backlog of cars and vans needing one. There will be plenty of work for testers.

Dont see why that is really hard to understand.

If lockdown is lifted in August am sure the govt will say cars need their mot done. Its not exactly a jail free card until November. Sooner it is lifted sooner things will go back in place. Simple as that.

agreed, i have seven to do the garage we use already has a backlog of work to get stuck into.

Good post Paul.It is difficult to call how punters will react. When I got my first pitch in 73 within 2 months we had an oil crisis.Opec raised the price 400% and there was an embargo and ration books were issued. The ‘experts’advocated only selling stuff below 2 litre which most dealers followed. What happened ,big stuff plunged in value and became attractive to the usual bread and butter buyers.Punters  suddenly realised they could own a nice Jag or a Rover for the price of a Cortina which they had only dreamed about. If big stuff drops in value again, similar could happen.

Times are different now, road tax on these big cars would scare most people off who are used to paying £145 a year no matter how cheap the car is, and whilst petrol is currently low the public are not that stupid to think they will stay low forever, the tech is quite heavy also again the public would worry about taking it to the main dealers instead of dave down the road to be fixed.

Even Yoda would struggle to call the future.

  11. This kind of chat is one of the main reasons i have decided to limit my interaction with the media be it news or social media.

Its all pure guess work, one person i looking at a massive downward trend others see it people having more money to spend and there cars failing due to sitting for 3 months, holidays cancelled and not to forget main dealers are going to be giving cars away, the boffins in charge have no doubt some scheme to get the country going again.

its not good for the mind in my view sitting around dreaming up various options for this that and the other.

And on that note i am off to find something to paint, have a lovely weekend.

PS James, whilst i fully understand the need for adverts it was impossible to reply to this on my phone as the adds kept covering the reply button.

    Hi,

we work from a yard and we dont pay rates for the premises .as its a shared yard .Do we qualify for the grant.?any advice please

    thank you

The criteria from what i read seems clear enough, you have to be a registered retail business, you have to have a business rates bill in your name or business name, which has to form part of an exemption of some sort then you can claim the grant.

Think in your case you might struggle, this could be a Welsh only thing mind as English folk seem to have some different options open to them.

As you mentioned about the coronavirus and loans I couldn't help it but to mention a logbook loan where they don't actually need you to surrender your logbook and you can complete the entire application online with no home visit required. So, no face to face meetings, and you get your money quickly mostly within the same day. This is known as the vehicle equity release!

There should be a law against companies like this disgusting how people work there and sleep at night amazes me.

Found a car online and the price is £6300 on the advert but in the car window the price is £6500. Turns out most of their other stock has the similar price discrepancy.  I would guess so the dealer can claim it should be £6500 but then agree to "honour" the online price, and use that to get out of any further price reduction. Would that be about right?

Hang on whilst i check my crystal ball,

Screen shot of your business confirming business shut

Sorn of important used vehicles for business

    Reduced electric Bill's

    Non existent fuel Bill's

    No window cleaner Bill's

The list is endless to prove you had your feet up as requested

Look at the money we are going to save now non of us are going for our 2 weeks in bognor too

I went for the easier option of my bank account records and copy of letters sent to the staff, clearly shows a dead stop bar a few month end payments from trade accounts which follow the same pattern every month.
