Commercials or regular mate? Haven't seen any cars going through in a while although I may be wrong. Pretty sure Manheim do them?

In the old days they used to have a large sale including cars and landrovers etc. Blackbushe isn't one of my haunts any more. They used to show up on the catalogue. Maybe MOD are selling direct now or leasing/hiring?:D

Never ever rely on the dvla, they lull you into a false sense of security, everything goes swimmingly for months, v5s turning up in 5 days, then you take a depo on  a car and working on past reliance on v5 turning up  you promise the customer thursday, and thursday doesnt happen, on monday your on the phone, gladys tells you that you can tax it at post office when you cant and by  wednesday punters screaming for his depo back, gets his depo back friday , and v5 turns up saturday, i have the scars :(

"Don't sell until you are ready to". This may sound like an over simplification, but always holds true. I find that the time to sort out a missing v5 is when I buy it.

    .....just my opinion:)

Just stay away from the auctions, you'll end up with some cars you wish you never bought, plus the auctioneers will just take the mick and bid you up.... Buy private or from ebay lots of bargains there. Good luck

Although if he has the time to drive around all day looking at mis-described sheds he could always do a bit of 'mini cabbing' :D

    The other oft forgotten thing?

    Pension.

You will have a good one if I'm assuming you for an OEM.

I'm in the middle of the pension nightmare right now. Because I'm now over 55 I have magically become a pensions actuary and I'm better qualified to invest my pot than they are?

  5. I'm sure the last one I did was under 2 weeks. I can't remember the last time I had to wait anywhere near 6 weeks. I'm guessing that's a worse case scenario?  I'm guessing that DVLA must send a letter to previous owner, but instead of replying by post encourage them to reply via website to speed up the process, who knows?

I wouldn't of given "CAP rough as f***" never mind "CAP clean" for an 11 year old petrol Jag. Obviously the low-mileage-specialist buyer must know some lottery winner they can rape.

I suppose there are just as many guys that hunt down "hand picked specially selected beautiful low mileage" Jags as well as there are guys that hunt down "hand picked specially selected beautiful low mileage German performance saloons"?:D

indeed, a few years ago you used to meet some half decent people on the sub grand stuff, people who knew the car "is what it is", not anymore since the inception of the cra  2015 and their inability to undertstand, shit cars shit money=shit people

It's nothing to do with the money, these sorts of buyers exist in 'all' price ranges. Especially if you sell anything under £2.5k you can expect to deal with them.

I understand a lot of guys on this forum only sell hand picked beautiful 5-8yr old German performance saloons, but your time will come;)

I'm not joking here. I have bought a used Cop car, it was an AMC Javelin 1974....had police spec' suspension and Twin Grip rear end and four on the floor...that was back in 1995 though;)

Seriously though I would avoid ex-police cars nowadays.

The US operate the same way as they do over here now, in fact the UK use the US practice of out sourcing cars, I can only speak for the counties I know (US and US) for sure but most (if not all, bar specials... surveillance etc?) are on a lease now but with some additions and oddities to the maintainance terms.

I remember when Kent Police went over to Silver cars, only because the lease contract was cheaper than white as the residuals were better....that would of changed now though as white is now the 'in' colour...or was depending on who you talk to.

Anyway, the days of 'money no object' spending practices on plod cars went out the window years ago.

My friend works for BT and they service the local police cars at this depot, pattern parts are always used and usually the cheapest.

I agree, we used to do a few police cars in the late 90s. The CID/unmarked/top brass cars were spot on and fullly specced, even came with service history if you were lucky and sensible miles. White cars were sheds with only the saving grace that white paint was cheap! But, the vans/commercials are good and have potential even now.

  9. I had a family member sounding me out about getting him a car. Has to be less that 50k, no more than 2 owners, black red or silver, full history, 2008/2009. Other than that he doesnt care? :D I suspect sadly the search will take too long!
