Received an email today. I bidded in person so i am a bit surprised.

    "Hi

Could not get through on any phone, just want to confirm the purchase from yesterday for the Volkswagen Golf.

If you could let us know when you are paying and collecting, and also provide us with a contact number.

    Thank you."

    My response as follows:

"My number should be on your system as i have been contacted before.

I thought BCA only contact when purchases are made online only?

I am on a gold card and will pay and collect within the time frames of the gold account and i suggest you check these before making contact less than 24 hours of the auction ending demanding to know when i will be collecting when it has been less than 24 hours!

    Absolutely disgraceful customer service.

    Regards"

I wouldn't see this as 'absolutely disgraceful customer service', in-fact, they had initially tried to contact you on the phone to no avail, some people don't know how to write polite, coherent emails, as someone has alluded to, maybe they're working a Zero hours contract with little or no training.

Good on them for trying to get in touch to ascertain when you're picking up!?

  2. +1 for Milwaukee polisher.

recommended by the paint man, lightweight (you’ll appreciate this once used a Chinese heavy one!) variable speed, long warranty, long cable and robust. Useful if you intend doing a fair bit of bidding and wanna keep it long term, was c£230 from memory but Ive had great use

You are asking about finance leads specifically on Autotrader where customers can search monthly budget and then we offer our own finance to them.

Honest answer at one point I felt it was working and producing more leads, recently I would say not so much,

    Exactly this.

ok, thanks, if I stock more 8k+ cars I may give it a go

Oh right. Sorry. I see what you mean

No charge (other than the Click Dealer monthly charge obviously) as I guess it is in MN’s benefit like you say

I don’t think it’s because of the IVendi tie up but I could be wrong.

Have you signed up with Zuto btw so your stock is on with them?

That’s outrageous, but I’m not surprised. Squeezing every shilling they can. When did that change?

Not sure think AT free trial ended 12 - 18 months ago.

Yep, signed up, they agree to pay £150+ VAT commission regardless of payout amount but only ever done 1 deal!?

  4. Hey G.

Maybe I've not explained very well, i'm talking about autoraper adverts, rather than website.

Basically, if you don't pay extra for the finance advertising, your vehicle's won't appear in search when customers have filtered on monthly price (rather than outright cost of the car).

I like your site, easy for MotoNovo and ClickDealer to integrate no doubt. Do either charge to integrate in? or is it seen as a mutual benefit?

    Cheers

  5. We received quite a few finance enquiries when autotrader included the finance calculator for free on our adverts when it was first introduced.

When they started charging for it, we cancelled and were put onto their standard Zuto calculator.

Does anyone pay for their own (rather than Zuto) finance calculator?

If so, do you get a healthy number of leads through from it.

Ebay / Gumtree - Combined package - OK. Not as many sales as AT but it's a fraction of the price so can't complain. More timewasters/weak leads than other platforms

AT - Great for units sold but it should be with the price it commands.

Facebook - Good. Few deals done from Facebook page / Facebook marketplace. We typically spend £40 p/month on page / post advertisement so very good return on investment.

Tried Facebook sporadically over the years to little joy.

Only had success in boosting iconic, rare cars, mainly due to being able to target the ads to users that like that brand, such as ‘MINI’ or ‘AMG’. No direct sales though.

Other option is for us to target 17-21 for first time kinda cars but again, gets the odd like but no hard leads.

    am I missing a trick?

So you’re saying you’re struggling to find cars with acceptable margins in them and you would rather price cheaper (not right because the right price is the sale price) sell cars quicker and use that money to buy more stock and repeat.

I can see a flaw there mate. You want fast selling cars for cheap. There’s a long queue.

Horses for courses I spose, if you’ve got limited space on your pitch or warehouse Yet a steady stream of profitable cars ready to buy then yeah, price keenly to sell overnight but if you’re gonna be sat watching every car on your BCA watch list go for £500 over cap then try and get a bit more for your desirable stock rather than slashing profits

Thanks for the replies guys appreciate it.

We sell our vehicles on Auto Trader using their retail valuation price at a "great price". We make the cars pretty mint but we're not demanding top money for them. i'm the one sourcing cars and its a struggle to find cars with a decent margin after all has been done, It usually means looking in every crevasse of the internet to find these.

Are you not cheating yourself out of profit by making sure every car is “great price”

I.E, your rare example with all the extras may be the only one within 60 miles, I’d certainly be trying my hand at £6500 instead of £6144 for a week or two

I’ve never even looked at Dealer Auction. Is it fun?

No, I finally decided to cancel over Xmas.

Nail in the coffin was a little iQ from Ron Brooks that had a clutch in pieces, they had the cheek to leave a 1 mile old VHC and service receipt stating “clutch slipping badly’! Obviously no mention on listing.

Shame, as there were a couple local main stealers that were half decent but margins were reducing and most were just cast offs that there favourite traders didn’t want.

Got it in writing dipstick was fine for 26 checks?

Got it in writing a third party garage you have had no dealings with broke it upon the customers choice to carry out work on their car they wish to sell?

I would not waste a second more on it.

If they've already told you in writing that prior to taking it to the garege it starts and runs, but bad rattle from chain, and that they've fucked the dipstick, I'd ask the owner to fix the dipstick, as it was clearly fine at point of purchase, so you can start the damn thing to find out what the actual problem is, for all you know there might be fuck all wrong with it, why wont the garage let you start it or take it away!

then in a worst case scenario just bloody have the thing back, minus fair use, 3k miles, 50p a mile, £1500. so you'd be buying it back for £1900, sort new chain and guide, MOT & oil change (dipstick in sump!?) and still make money on it.  thats just me, I can't be arsed with hassle any more so just want them out of my life as quickly as possible, but I'd definitely be getting the car back/want it diagnosed first.

Just like any other thread here: Opening up a discussion and see where it goes. Learn something new in the process.

I will tell you the type of thread that I personally find pointless: "Are these good news" regarding a part exchange even before someone has done a deal...

Quite pointless indeed, everything has a price, buy behind book and you can’t go wrong, you may even surprise yourself

Instantly got my back up. But the billy ended up buying. Couldn’t have been that bad’a accident then !
