  1. We have been ticking over this month but sadly none of our heavy hitters have been going more just our cheaper stuff.

Today was a good day though with 3 appointments and 3 sales, a nice auto focus (not a powershit) that we’d bought back from an old customer who’d given up driving; an Ibiza that we’d also sold previously and a white insigina elite that I lost money on it due to it needing a gearbox recon, a new clutch and a timing belt with both vvt pulleys. Glad to just be out of it though.

We are off until the 6th January officially, I don’t see much point being in as everywhere else is shut, can’t buy stock from auctions, my workshop is closed and our painter is off too.

    When customers have requested an appointment I have been adding this to the emails;

All we ask is at the appointment providing the vehicle is as described please be in a position to either pay for the vehicle or leave a holding deposit.

Anyone that just wants a look at a few cars is refused an appointment till we reopen officially unless they are dead very they want to buy. All appointments must also be confirmed an hour prior by phone.

It’s working successfully so far in rooting out the time wasters.

  2. My house got broken into just under 2 years ago, I was upstairs. Chased the guy down the street, managed to catch him and punch him to the ground, but I had to let him go when he pulled a knife on me, I still have scars on my arms where the junkie prick scratched me.

Anyway the dick done 10 houses in my area within 2 days And got caught as he was well known to the police but he done a deal with the pf where he pleaded to a few of them and they then dropped the rest of the cases including mine.

He got 2 years in prison of which he will serve half so he’ll be out by now back up to his usual tricks. These pricks need there fingers chopped off!

Unless it's had a recent service I'd do an oil and filter change with the correct oil grades etc stick a flush through it and then check the levels are correct might be worth a go and can't do any harm

    keep us posted

Good advice Casper, least when you change the oil you know exactly how much is in it and compare that with the capacity listed on autodata. Cheaper than throwing oil level sensors etc at it when it could just be simple.

Mojo, if it's just a rattly chain as opposed to knocking, then it's around the grand mark for a chain (if that). Whoever has quoted him is taking him for a ride.

Aren’t the chains on them at the back of the engine? So it would be an engine and box out job probably plus the fact it’s an x1 it will have transfer boxes etc, I’d be guessing a minimum of ten hours labour at £45+vat an hour plus timing chain kit with sprockets, oil, coolant, gearbox oils and whatever else I can see it easily being £1500

mark, an interesting point is if you are in scotland why should your car even be priced in line with a car that's in say the south east? no mention by AT of the real logistical cost of someone close to you buying a car from the other end of the country, instead just a biased opinion based on bollocks, i'm all for AT educating the public, but why they don't tell them why a car deserves a premium etc is beyond me, biting the hand that feeds is an understatement with this horrible company now.

This is my point, it’s supply and demand, if there is not another one in Scotland or within a certain radius then my car is worth more but there computer algorithms don’t comprehend that and point the finger at us as being expensive but how can you be expensive when there are no comparable models to be compared with.

I think your margins are where it needs to be really Mark not greedy at all I've asked the question before  and most traders say they have around a £1500-2000 mark up . Thats what we are all aiming for really

And that amount seems like a lot to customers  they think we make a fortune, but we probably have close to ten grand a month in overheads before we kick a ball so it doesn’t actually go as far as people think.

  7. It’s annoying, I just bought a mint grade 2 2009 59 white C220 diesel auto saloon, I paid £500 over cap for it so it’s costing me out the door £5079, Autotrader Tells me it’s only worth £5879 and the trade price is £3722, these figures couldn’t be any further out!

At £6395 it will be the cheapest white c class in Scotland and I don’t think that’s me being greedy with my margin either.
