Do you guys not worry about using 2k? Personally, I wouldn't use 2k without proper equipment.

I try to stay away from diesels but I reckon most of the problems are caused by the type of person who nurse them. taxi drivers reps etc usually drive cars 'hard' or at least in the right gear ,saves a lot of problems. No wonder the dmf break when Polly is costing along at 40 MPH in 5th gear. diesels of yesteryear had a voice and soon let you now how to drive em

I spend half my life searching for cars.. Spotted a car So I Phone up.. Girl answers ,usual questions etc etc.. Get address put it in Google maps and set off. Approaching the address I'm thinking bloody hell this is like millionaires row and I'm in this 59 plate Ford ka wheel trims scuffed to fk. Park the wee banger out of sight. Walk round and chap the door and out pops the young lady, do whatever I have to do and tell her the car has few faults but I'm interested and would like a test drive. See her dad tidying garage say hi get a hi back but clearly not wanting involved She was a nice young lady and got a bit of rapore going, mention to her that the dads usually do the selling when it comes to cars.. Shes like oh he takes nothing to with anything you know why don't you. It's because of Andy, I'm in dunblane and the penny drops -Andy Murray is like ronaldo up here. So your Andy Murray's sister? Well yes half sister, not quite the famous previous owner on v5 but close! The car is nice, bid her 500 below her pretty reasonable asking price ,she refused but said she's only got few days to sell and will contact me if the car doesn't go Hoping like fk she'll call me!!

How true about customers parking half way over a neighbours drive! most of the things you guys have said are spookily accurate . If the neighbours seen my accounts maybe they'd change their minds. I'm doing ok for starting a new business but by no stretch of the imagination coining it in. Some good suggestions on trying to calm the situation and the powers that the local authority possess or in this case don't posess. Thanks for the advice/opinions

Hi, I know this subject has been covered before but I guess it's always a concern and relevant to us who trade from home.. Basically my neighbours are getting the notepads out and busy documenting every fiddle fart , Actually had my next door neighbours father standing at the top of my drive watching a customer drive off in his new car.. Also has the comments you've more cars than Arnold Clark ,'a lot of Money in second hand cars' I know a man who makes a fortune'.. Jovial at first but not now. BTW I have a 3 to 4 car length drive and absolutely no cars are kept on public roads It's looking like I'll have to start selling cars from a relatives house which is a real downer. I live in a great postcode area and it helped It's a concern when writing invoices and using an address that is nothing to do with me other than a relatives house. Is that even legal? Damn :-/

Hi, I started trading a few months ago as a sole trader and I'm realizing a limited company would have been a better idea. Has anyone here made the transition? I'm not overly keen on accounts fees if they can be avoided. I'm doing not bad, better than expected and would like to bring a family member in to the new limited company .it's another drive to keep cars and he's works in a similar fashion to myself, fairly confident the partnership would work, albeit he'd be part time. Ive read various bits online but I'm pretty sure the best advice will come from here. On another note- can I get in to the private forum without a VAT number?

Is there anyway to assign a private plate to a car while it's in trade? Say I buy a 56 plate BMW or Audi TT ..car looks far better than it's age .. buy a plate for 150 and increase it's appeal. I have done this before with a TT and I'm sure it aided the sale. I registered the car in my name, with obvious downside of extra owner to v5

Hi, sorry to bring up this old post but after searching forum trying to get a definitive answer Im still not 100 percent sure Ive only got a 3 cars and Im using a little trade in as personal car until it sells .I'm covered through trade insurance, it's mot'd and taxed through direct debit with green slip . Details completed on yellow section and left with previous owner to send. Just wany to clarify i am completely legal to drive this car -
I've sold two corsas in the past 30days. First listed at 3150..heard zero. price reduced to 2995 and had lots of enquires, Same with a 09 plate green fiesta . In my very limited experience the price has to be very competitive and the advert a bit different from everyone else. 3 physical viewings equaled 3sales. The cars were prepared to the best possible standard ,profit was low but it was profit! If i can sell the little trade in quickly then i have a chance in this game

I've refurbished lots of alloys at home. It's all about the prep and definitely not a five min job, more like a 5day job! The clear coat takes weeks to harden unless you use 2pack(hospital job). Etch primer as first coat for alloy but use plastic primer if its been powder coated

I've not seen them yet so I can't say about condition .100k corsas are just over 2k. I got list with eleven corsa's mostly petrol and low mileage with the exception of an orange diesel and the two with the high miles. I totally get you'll never know until you try but the thought of corsa's joining my green fiesta on the drive for months on end is a worry. I appreciate the advice/opinions given. cheers

Hi Im a registered sole trader, I have trade plates and insurance but a million miles away from a proper dealer in experience, knowledge and services. I have a good contact for ex nhs cars, who has been true to his word and gave me a list of vehicles. I was hoping for the odd van but no can do and it's all vauxhall corsa's mostly 2014 models ranging from 7k to 100k miles. There's a couple of high mileage 1.2 16V ecoFLEX SS 85 EU5 S AC at webuyanycar prices. FSH with long mots. I've never owned nor sold a vauxhall, v limited knowledge! I trade from home and my train of thought is to go for the high mileage cheap as chips option where people won't need finance to purchase. On the other hand are those high mileage corsa's a ticking time bomb?

I know what you mean about the colour If I was 50 miles north or south of Glasgow then I would worry more about squeeze green. people here are not the norm :-D Quite outgoing. Narrower target but I can see a young lady choosing squeeze green over black. Regarding bearing , 90 percent of people wouldnt pick up on the noise, mechanic said it's nothing to be worried about but that's not how i operated in past so be madness to change what worked for me before. I believe my mistake was the price I paid at auction not the car itself. To ramble on a bit.. The auction is in the middle of no where, only 10-20 traders physically attend but plenty of fake online ones! the cars are poor but the public car auction in Glasgow is almost as bad you can get better cars but half of Glasgow is bidding. I sold an e90 3 years ago for 4k, was at Glasgow city auction last year and they we're selling similar cars for 4k. Waste of time for me

I've not went down this route on the back of watching Wheeler dealers but to answer a few questions my previous occupation was a sales Rep with mondelez I'm based in Glasgow and trading cars from my home address in Newton mearns, It's a nice area and I'm sure aided me in the past. I have a small pot of 10k and direct access to former nhs cars . In the meantime I bought a couple cars from auction. I can only recall one car I had trouble selling(as a private seller), certainly never had a car take months to offload that said they were usually nice cars and priced to sell. It's a bit different when you need to make a profit rather than hoping and fancying a change of car again. Personal cars were BMW e90 and Audi TTs and the like but occasionally did have to odd runabout for sale too. The fiesta will be fixed and sold at a loss .

Trader is my occupation as of two weeks ago. Yip your right about money ,I was aware of the small margins, every man and there dog having a go at selling cars but it is something I like doing which is half the battle. Yeah I guess I already know the answer fix the damn car properly and move on

As a private seller I sold a fair few cars and quickly I priced them to sell and prepared them right. I had other employment so profit although important wasn't imperative. Things have changed I was at auctions and going through numerous private ads etc and got a couple of cars. One in particular is a cause for concern , fiesta 1.25 zetec on 09 plate. The car has good history lowish miles at 65k, blemish free bodywork. It's unusual squeeze green colour ,quite an appealing car for a fiesta but probably paid over the odds at 2600 including fees. Im in process of renewing the tired suspension which is easy enough for me to do but the real issue is noise from the throw out bearing. I had a garage take a look and drain gearbox oil.. No nasty surprises ! Basically his assessment was the clutch is ok the gears are smooth and its common for the bearing to make noise on fiesta's of that age. I'm particular by nature and maybe over analyzing what prospective buyers will notice/expect . Im 50/50 on getting garage to replace clutch and selling a car I don't need to worry about or attempting to sell with slight whirl when in neutral. I see this car at 3100 (fresh mot) with or without new clutch. In the past I would replace clutch and move on but finances are influencing my thoughts. Maybe I just need to hear an outsiders opinion...

Ah it's not straightforward then, hmm. I don't mind not using the car but dilemma would occur if I got a prospective buyer with no tax and no trade plates as of yet and I had to drive car from auction legally hence using green slip. A while back I bought an mk2 Audi tt from a dealer who was terrified of any buyer returning it(which I didn't) and he didn't send of v5 declaring sale. I eventually registered that car in my name ..from memory that was a good 3months without me on v5
-
Thanks for replies. From reading that PDF it appears I'm better not using the car which isn't a big problem. As long as new owner can RE tax car using the same v5 then all will be good. Cheers

Hi guys! I'm new to trading cars .I've bought many cars from auctions etc before but always registered them in my name. I'm now going to have a bash at full time motor trading albeit from home. So to the crux of the matter-ive got trade insurance but still waiting on trade plates. I've bought a car ,got v5 with just the yellow trader section sent off and since I'm using the vehicle I taxed it using green slip. When I sell the new owner will need to tax the car using same green slip.. Is this possible? I really don't want to add another name on v5.Any info v much appreciated
