Agree with arfur. general public have no idea how much work goes in to preparing and selling a car. Just as an example. I bought a car from auction for 1200. Im a one man band.. 25 quid taxi journey to auction to collect car with tools to get it going. It's had a rear caliper ,bonnet cable, driveshaft seal, valve cover gasket ,spark plugs, coils, gearbox oil, engine oil and air filter, mot and pdi. That's not over prepping that's what the car needed. Counting man hours and garage bills I'm not seeing much profit and I got that car cheap. What's really annoying is the trader who bought an almost identical car but high mileage and had it for sale next day at 1295 and sold it.. And no doubt the person who bought that smoker will never buy from a doorstepper again..be lost to pcp. It's hard job if you want to do things right

A video helps if the car is in great condition. A One minute video has definitely aided in selling my ex nhs cars. Emphasises and supports my description as in these cars are like new. Would I video a 2008 mondeo with the early onset of rust? Not a chance

Facebook ideal for 'traders' who buy from auction on a Wednesday and up for sale on the thursday. I stopped looking at marketplace as it's not comparing like with like. Hate it when a customer says but the one on Facebook is 500pounds cheaper... Better cars and better clientele come through auto trader IMO

I look for the cars with the broken bonnet release cable as long as you can still access the engine bay, and the seized handbrake cable,whining pump. Those are the bargains at auction otherwise your paying pretty strong money at least at auctions I go to. What's a cable?.. 15quid, a caliper 50quid. Picked up a relativey low mileage mondeo for 1200 all in last week. OK I had hassle of fixing in a supermarket car park few hundred yards from auction house but well worth it. I see in grand in that car . You don't buy a sub 3k car at auctions without faults..

Yeah I tried masquerading as a Joe bloggs customer looking for insurance, it didn't accept reg to quote. I'm guessing it'll be same as my trade insurance and they'll request v5 etc. Bit of a pain explaining that to a customer before buying the car. What would be ideal is for insurance companies to recognize the car the way the dvla can!

Yeah it's actually good car, full service history and a brilliant price .i go to odd places to buy cars.. this one was a ferry job and I thought that was main reason for the good value. my worry is potential customer trying to insure. My motor trader insurance wouldnt cover the car in first instance.

I went to view a car yesterday, decent enough motor . I carried out the necessary -Original VIN ,hpi check etc everything being as it should. On the v5 I noticed in special notes it states registered or used elsewhere in the UK declared manufacture 2010. I had an inclination this could cause some trouble so I didn't proceed with deal there and then. I phoned dvla today and they said the car is legal, matches our record. Where the problem lies is trying to insure. I queried car with My motor trader insurance and they said problems!, don't know why but it's not coming up..they requested photos of v5 to show underwriters which I've sent tonight. Has any of you chaps come across something similar? For some reason insurance companies do not recognise the reg and same with some valuation sites.

I was/kind of still am interested in a vehicle that is throwing up odd results in valuation queries. MOT history works fine, eurocarparts recognize the car but not all motor factors . 'Cant identify car from registration ' Anyone think of a reason why? It's a Ford focus reg sj60gfk.

Onesure was best for me but be aware the price jumps a fair bit if a limited conpany rather than a sole trader.

The car is showing as taxed and insured. It's was a foreign fella. Definitely something a miss but probably with him rather than car .

Yeah but that only became apparent on arrival. I told him on phone I run a legitimate business ,would like to see proof of who he was etc yes fine fine he says!,ooft. When I arrived he was standing outside the entrance of a block of flats ,car was in aldi car park he says.. That was enough for me. Not sure what his game is but not for me.

Update.. His sales pitch was aldi car park! waste of time

Easier to look at plate for code but I have used https://www.etis.ford.com for ford paint colour, just enter the reg. Same with myaudi

Haha yes that's the one. He's improved ad/pics from before! I bid him 2200 few weeks back. he said no chance, messaged me other day saying yes.. Coarse he's now opened himself up so...! Nhs cars are perfect in the fact I don't need to do anything to them but profit is low and dreaded vauxhall corsas.

No it's a 59 plate fiesta, 50k miles (if not been tampered with) west end of Glasgow. Unfortunately not.. Every man and his dog is up there ..the retired postman and his wife to the spotty teenager pushing the prices to ridiculous levels. Risk with v little reward. Suppose you can get an old banger or newish car for reasonable money but I'm after neither.

Hi ,yes usually around 3k mark. I've got a trade account with Glasgow central car auctions and Wilson auctions in dalry -both kinda retail money for auto salvage! I buy ex nhs cars and try to source other cars from private sellers. I'm very small scale but I'm making a living

I know my way about cars and sales. Where I'm 'green' is the dvla side, cra etc ie the technicalities of the job. Few replies have cleared that up.. Cheers! I've bought a fair few cars from auctions over last 15years ..I don't see a lot of profit in the cars at my price range. I don't see the thousands of places to buy reliable good value cars either..surely a false statement. if it was easy then...

I've seen it going from 2800 ,2600 2450 and now he's willing to take 2k. I know he can't move it, hard sell in that colour unless everything is correct. As I say it was just the legality of sale from my position.. Thanks for advice

I'm a level headed chap. The car has a rather large scratch,,probably needs ball joint etc but I can deal with that in a cost effective way. Car is showing as taxed and insured. Main concern is keeping myself in a perfectly legal position

Ive been following a car on Facebook for a few weeks The price has dropped to a level where I can make money on it anyhow I phoned the fella and asked usual questions..v5 isnt in his name and its obvious this is a guy selling cars without the burden of tax! I'll hpi, check vin numbers etc but my main query is regarding v5..he's not on v5 and hes not a legal motor trader. How would that work for filling out online transfer

I took precautionary action... I formed a limited company with my sister. Company Invoices will have my address but I don't envisage problems selling a few cars from her address with Company house records there to reassure customers . I fenced and gated half my drive so only one car is visible .

Because it contains isocyanates, you don't want that getting on your skin ,hate to think of the effect on lungs.
