Faulty battery, faulty gear selector, faulty ignition switch module or (highly unlikely) a faulty gearbox.

Dave would surely want to know if the car has been on SDS and what the fault codes are?

I will add that if fault codes are completely absent it could indeed point to a mechanical fault in the gear selector. £80 used and easy to replace.

£80 Nick, show me where i can get one for this, I've been quoted nigh on double that!

  2. Got a 2006 Mercedes c180 in stock, erratic issues where sometimes it won't shift up from first and then other times ot changes fine but on parking up the gearstick will leave "d" get to "n" and won't go past there, cannot engage reverse or get into park unless ignition is knocked off and vehicle restarted. I'm thinking faulty gear selector, anyone come across this previously? Thanks in advance.

I've also got alerts on vehicles and spent this morning calling to see why markers haven't been cleared etc. Absolutely ridiculous if you ask me

I've served notice (was going to any way but that was the icing on the cake).

Package runs for 30 days and Ebay is completely dominating leads, so hopefully the right decision.

Mark, please let me know how you get on with this as it's something I've been contemplating for a while now, just been apprehensive and always fear that if i did then i may as well shut the gates.

Avoiding selling on ebay and the likes is an absolute must for me. I wont claim to be a busy man however I really dont want to deal with any of the idiots who are frequently discussed on this forum. So I have found a few people who are more than willing to do so to supplement their regular job. So find yourself a plastic trader or 2 that you can build a relationship with.

Go to your local industrial estate and find the car with a price board on and ring him, if he's a local mechanic or similar he may want to have a couple on the side. Suss out if he's likely to be a whinger or not. Lots of workshops and bodyshops will have people who do a couple of cars on the side, you need to find these people. Lots of them will happily work to earn a hundred or so quid, because if youre on 20k, an extra £100 a week goes a long way. And if they start giving you grief, go and find someone else. Theres plenty of them out there, you just need to know where to look.

Bang on! I've got plenty of "banger boys" down my way, leave it to them to rat out all the sh1tters that we don't retail and they are happy to earn a few quid on the side. Best way all round for me as i don't want people coming to the forecourt either and there's no links back to us too.

  6. Bought one of the above, no problem for the first 60 miles or so then i noticed a strange idling pattern where it would sound like a diesel rather then a petrol, this would come and go. Few more miles then eml on, said camshaft sensor, changed this, light back on. Had someone else look at it, said timing has slipped and needs new chain......... 600 quid later and car still has the occasional rattle but he said light has remained off so i picked it up. Drove it and less than 7 miles later light is back on. At my wits end with it now, anyone come across this, not had many petrol audis previously if I'm honest.......... Won't be getting any in the future either.

    Haha

I had to explain that theory to a guy who offered £1,500 less for a Honda type S a few weeks back :o

He didn't understand the concept of PROFIT and was thinking the whole £7,995 was money to play with  saying I still had £6,495 so whats the problem .

No idea where his wages actually came from

I've actually said this to people "do you think we get these cars given to us for free then simply prep and clean them ready for sale?"

Some of the great british public seem to think we don't actually buy this stock in, baffles me how stupid some people are.

have you done all checks to certainer mileage

    pre buying

sorry to be the purveyor but it might be wise to backtrack on the deal

    I'll check on this, thanks.

    Try reprogramming the whole car.

Does everything work i.e radio, bluetooth, steering wheel buttons, parking sensors etc?

Everything works except the blue and me button on the steering wheel

  9. Grant, i had a 2009 A5 coupe with exactly this problem, sold vehicle only for it to come back with customer saying oil light kept coming on along with the message etc, quick look online and i found the common issue with this engine, very well known and watchdog got involved too i believe, Audi weren't helping people before that point. Took it to my local MD who drained oil, filled with correct amount and sent me on my way, couple of hundred miles later light was back on, failed the oil consumption test with Audi and replacement engine had to be fitted, around 90% was covered by Audi themselves and i had to stump up around £1400 i think, it was like pulling teeth trying to get to that stage though as they tried to wriggle out due to some non dealer history later on in the cars life, took a bit of stern arguing on my behalf in order to get the matter sorted. Would never ever touch one again with all the hassle and stress it caused me.
