I second this. We let ourselves get treated like dirt sometimes, just because of the reputation of the trade.

Recently I got done over with a px, long story, but I called them back and got the repair costs off them. Their behaviour was unacceptable in my eyes and if they refused I would have threatened with small claims courts. I recommend everyone else does the same.

Any chance you can elaborate on this, would like to know more details

  2. Well after an OK few weeks I felt I had to put this post up as this week has been absolutely dire! It's like someone's switched the lights off, checked AT to see we were still on there..... Yes, checked pricing indicators to see if ours are favorable, yes all either "good price" and some "great price"..... Checked ebay motors, yes we are still on there.... Checked phone lead hadn't fallen out of the cordless base unit...... Nope definitely plugged in and got dialling tone!  How's it been for others on here? Maybe it's to do with half term, maybe it's the stock. On a positive note though we had someone in today on a 2004 corsa 1.2 sxi that came in part exchange, clean car so listed it for £990..........the offer I have on it... £800 as long as I can get a new mot on it (current one is for September), oh and "what sort of warranty comes with it"

I'm on the brink of becoming an alcoholic as its the only thing that I find helps me deal with these imbeciles (not during work, after I get home of course).

We had a 58 plate 3 door 118d M sport in white a few weeks ago and sold it in 3 days, and to be fair could of sold it 10 times over.

How much did you get for it and what miles may I ask?

Are these cars hard work in a 3dr not had one for a year or more ?

    2013 120d M sport 3dr white manual 53k full history

Put it on cars to trade and not had a bid, all I've seen on here lately is people saying how had stock is to find .

    thanks

How much have you advertised it for on there?

    Do we like this one?

Just had (snipped) email as below on an 11 grand car that the client/punter/gentleman viewed at length Saturday.

Very polite though so that was nice....

”....Good Evening. Have given the V70 some serious consideration I am genuinely interested.

The rear parking sensors could be a simple sensor or a replace so anything from 150-650. The front lip needs rescuing as it’s quite untidy and that depends  on the body shop options. The alarm service if it is the mass movement sensor is also 500 plus.

I would like to offer you £7500-8000 for the car as it stands with the outstanding issues. I would genuinely keep it and cherish it.”

He was so nice I almost wanted to say yes. ;o) I often wonder how much the public thinks we buy them for...

Are you selling an 11k car with a front bumper that needs painting, parking sensors not working and an alarm system service message on the dash? Not having a go just interested to see if this is the case

£140 more?! How many cars are you advertising?

Glad I'm not with them. Greedy bastards. Their bubble will burst.

Is your website an AT one?

Weekly I still get people telling me they saw it advertised on AT. We haven’t been with the idiots for well over a year!

    Nope, website isn't by AT

Couple 1 were probably spending every last penny & couple 2 probably weren’t. It’s usually the greedy penniless bar-stewards who are fussy.

As for punters with ridiculous expectations it’s getting crazy at the moment with more & more expecting the earth for a few grand. I’ve started telling them to look at the condition first & if they don’t like what they see we’ll stop there. They only get a test drive when they confirm they’re happy with the condition.

Some totally unrealistic bells out there, want a new car for used car money

  7. Confirmed...... Had the visit last week from the rep......... £140+ increase per month..... Gulp! Would love to just stick 2 fingers up but I am apprehensive of the outcome if that makes sense.

I'm wise to the hatred to AT and heard it time after time again on the now defunct AT forum, the constant moaning......But, has eBay now taken over AT..... ???

Ebay hasn't taken over I can assure you...... Wish it had. Was off the weekend and when my office line is in use I get calls to my mobile.........2 autotrader calls.

I had it this weekend. A couple came down to look at a Tigra I had on Saturday, loved the car but his Mrs wasn’t happy about a bit of wear on the drivers seat. We agreed a price but no deposit was left as it was subject to him seeing how much a new seat would cost him first.

Sunday and I get another phone call from someone else wanting to view it. They came down and bought it straight away for more than the offer from the first couple. Happy days.

First customer rang me back last night saying he’d found a seat on eBay so would be down Monday to collect it.

Sorry pal sold it this morning :)

Funny isn't it...... Some people perceptions and expectations...... Couple number 1 whining about a bit of wear on the seat of a car that I'm guessing is approx 12 years old?

Couple 2 come in later to see the same vehicle and buy it irrespective of the seat wear on the 12 year old car. Bonkers!

I'm getting to the point where I can't enter into conversation with some people out there who want to buy a "brand new used"  car from us...... It absolutely fries my brain.

I wish I could deal with polish buyers all day long, by far the easiest customers to deal with.

They always seem to fly straight through when applying for finance too,  unlike some of the knockers that we have to hawk around several dozen different companies who all come back with either a no or an acceptance at 1386.58% APR as their credit is so bad.

How do you know if there was actually a fault, let alone it being diagnosed and repaired correctly. I certainly wouldn't pay a penny. You have NOT been given the opportunity to inspect or repair or even the courtesy of a phone call prior to any of the above..... End of story in my book

Exactly this.......... I'm always suspicious of the ones that do this...... Really boils my p1ss! I'll deal with it tomorrow once I've had a few beers to dwell on it this evening.

  11. Customer purchases a car 2 months ago, calls today to say that it's been making a noise, takes it to his local garage as he's from afar, they order in a new pulley kit and belt and proceed with fitting it........ Total cost over £300......... Just managed to pick myself up off the floor to write this....... Problem is guy was really nice but come on, who knows when a tensioner or pulley is going to start clacking away. To top it off I can get the kit for £109 plus approx £30 labour from fitting. I'm sure some of you here have been in similar situations.

Ive noticed im having to spend above cap clean to buy currently.

I cant see how theres any money left in any of the deals. Cars arent making cap retail at the moment (for us anyway) so how the hell do people buy at almost retail price and sell on for profit

Haven't got anywhere near cap retail for years!

We use them, it’s OK value for money, plus they will take care of Facebook page etc. and do websites for you if required.

They're part of the Newsquest group so it links with local press etc.

Plus, remember (as mentioned on another thread) that people will google search and go from there nowadays, rather than necessarily going to a dedicated site.

They work to try and push themselves up on the rankings and they’re fairly high up because it’s such an established company.

They assign a free call tracker number to the ads, so when a punter calls, it announces it’s from X&M so you know it’s working. Or not

About the same response as we get from Motors, so not brilliant but alright for the spend - it I wouldn’t want to pay more-and miles better value for leads than the Autotrader daylight robbery.

We got our arm twisted to try it a few years back but on a 3 month trail.

What price do you pay for it please

Which comes with free “Sports Direct”  tracky bottoms

It's Lonsdale bottoms up this way, they normally turn up looking for Astra vxr's, Honda civic type r's and focus St's.... Haven't got 2 pennies to scratch their backsides with and you end up hawking them around all the finance companies under the sun!
