  1. I mention this again for the benefit of anyone who hasn't heard me pontificate regularly on this subject

    - that we STILL get people telling us they saw the car on Autoraper.  It's over two years now since we were last with the Highwaymen.

I don’t use AT and haven’t done for 2 years, stocking up to 60 cars average price £10k. I have a click dealer website and use e bay, motors.co.uk, AA cars, exchange and mart, car gurus, and have a page in local rag, biggest spend is £1000 a month for SEO and PPC, one thing I have learnt since cancelling AT is that customers look everywhere, they live on the internet trawling all sites.... with that in mind I am not frightened of cancelling a site if it gets expensive or doesn’t work, find and fund was cancelled after 4 months and CarGurus sent me a letter last week with a 27% increase so I sent my cancellation back.. Without car dealers these sites cannot operate, but we can operate without these sites.

My story/set up is almost exactly the same. Life goes on fine without Autoraper.

  3. Did you advertise it on AT?  It should come up automatically.  Their (indeed ironic & inaccurate) spiel says the customer is covered is how I read it.

What a pain for you.  Anyway- the dealer needs to compensate you or take it back, but would be interesting to see AT's defence against this. No doubt arse well and truly covered in the small print somewhere.

Keep us posted!  (What have we got to do- Hpi check AND Experian check everything?)

  4. Quote from Autoraper site:
    "Vehicle checks on Auto Trader

Every car for sale on Auto Trader has a free five point background check, which covers whether the car is stolen, has been scrapped, written off, imported, or exported. You can see that information towards the end of every advert.

For peace of mind, you can upgrade this to a full check for £14.95. If a vehicle has been written off, scrapped or is listed as stolen, Auto Trader will give you another vehicle check for free. There's also up to £30,000 of data guarantee is case of any inaccuracies. "

    Yeah- Experian - you're right

So, if this car was checked using the same Experian system, then am I reading it right there's a 30k guarantee it's right?

(I also love the typo at the end of the paragraph)

  5. I’m sure he’s a really nice guy behind the bulshit, and is playing in his corporate world effectively-but even the [studio?) photo annoys me.  And don’t get me started on the over-elaborate corporate speak!

I reply to anyone who takes time to poke their toe into my world.  Just good manners. However, he probably thinks we’re all idiots I guess.

    Next.

  6. Two ways of dealing with this fool:

    A) Give him his money back less 40 per mile and sell it again for a tad more money if there was so much interest.

B  ) Tell him to do his worst at court and take your chance.

    C) Pay him what he's asking or what you're offering, but get it in writing that this is a one off goodwill gesture and his accepting your payment absolves you from any future comebacks, conversations (text or otherwise) about the car.

For what it's worth - I would go for A as you can't argue with a fool.

If you go for C then he must return it to you to investigate and deal with.  Could just be a liar as well as a fool.

    Good luck!

  7. Yup - very true & we all said the same.  They could afford to and should have given it free and grow it slowly- without millions wasted on TV advertising I say, but what do I/we know!

I really like MN as a finance company and their system and payouts are very good and I wish them well with it now they have seen sense.

It'll either become a good product or will fizzle out.  Time will tell!

  8. 8 months.  Yeah-They still are saying it's a success from what I heard.  They're now moving on to the 'next phase' or something.  We'll see.

    (even) I can't complain now it's free I guess.

I agree about being refunded but that'll never happen.

  9. Just had my Motonovo rep in to say they are giving F&F free now to any dealers that have supported them with this- including (like us) those that have previously cancelled.

I think they missed a trick there and should have given it free to all their MN dealers from day one.

Anyway- good that it's now a Brucie at least.

  10.  Buy private, although you may get the odd one or two off DA very occasionally.

My advice is to find a niche or specialise in something and stay reasonably down market price-wise

I don’t understand why you can’t buy off BCA etc if you want to? Your employer has loads of potential competition including the general public already.

I always do the belt if it’s due or nearly due.

Remember, the cheaper the car, generally the more of a messer the buyer will be as it’s often all their money

Particularly when buying private, you may well get a better deal on something that hasn’t had the belt done -or it’s nearly due- as for some reason it’s almost the end of the world for a punter-and only just behind that terror that is a head gasket (gasps)!

Good luck with it.  Let us know if there’s anything sensible you need to know.

    to NOACROSS is being ironic,sorry

Thought as much. Anyway, I rarely do auctions but the OP asked, so I contributed as Pentons do OK with it as I say.

Don’t get me wrong, they get messed about and the odd no-show.

We’ve had this conversation before and Sterling Cars came up. Now they DO basically say on their eBay auctions ‘buy the car or don’t and Go F Yourself eitherway.’

Think it’s Andymc? that knows them well...dunno how well it works for them.

This has happened to me I admit a few times over the years, you go to collect your car and it’s disappeared.

Had to travel down to Plymouth to collect. Had to tax them and pay the fine to get released.

    What a work up.

  13. True.  Same here I guess. No one else is going to. ;0)

Minimum 20 cars a month out there with stickers in the windows.  I think it helps keep your name out there.  Especially the local buyers.

They're only cheap so I'll carry on living in the past.
