  1. not only a good battery but the RIGHT BATTERY ! as said previously, and applies to all, my mate got given a car [ value £1500-2000] with faults that garages couldn't fix, a passing auto electrician just said , "its wrong battery" a proper battery cured numerous faults, and my mate celebrated when he counted twenty fourty sixty eighty

  2. split vacum pipe ?

    inlet manoifold leak ?

get your mechanic to invest in a vacum gauge [ lessthan £20] one of the best tools you can buy, i wouldnt be without mine, blocked exhausts, cats that have come loose internally, burnt out valves, low compression, missing spark, etc etc.

also have you run it with the belts removed ?

  3. The government's been looking into this for 18 months now and are considering compensation based on half hourly slots of compensation [dependant on your turnover at year end ]  for time wasters.

the rates will be between £18 to £25 per hour or part thereof.

The time wasting must be done on your premises , you cant claim for phone calls or replying via text, neither can you claim for replies by social media or emails, based on a hourly rate [to be yet fully confirmed] as i say you can claim once the time wasting goes past half hour slots, [maximum you can claim is up to two and a half hours] you can only apply if you employ five or less, a sole trader, and you dont have to be vat registered to apply.

In order to apply you must take the contact details of the timewaster, make a statement relating to what the time wasting was about, [sale of a car] and have a signed witness statement, applications while this is being set up will be by post [ takes approximately two hours to complete the form ] but its hoped to go online in the future.

Personally I think Gumtree's ok for selling a filthy £30 cooker or a set of scuffed alloys with half-bald tyres but that's about the financial limit on that website. I'm sure others will disagree but I reckon it's a waste of time - I wouldn't even spend time uploading a car even if it was free to use. The same with Facebook as most on there seem to be the part-time brigade or those masquerading as "private" but in reality "full-time selling pure shite" but again, I'm sure others will disagree.

  7. taken on board what your all saying and yes thats a good idea put them on in adverts, and reg number in the description, you could say that if you run a mixed selection pitch and had them on, then punters walking round or even driving past will look at the price rather than the reg number [ because its not showing] , if the customer bases his buying on = make, year, colour, price. then by having no plate showing he/she is seeing = make colour price. does that draw the customer further in ? is there opportunity for inflated prices for people who cant value cars ? certainly round here a few do that, or maybe because quite a few dealers are close together its to actually bring them in and ask/look in window at description card ?

  9. i lost a sale a fortnight ago to a stone chip in screen, so your not alone, the car otherwise ticked every single box, wasted another hour of my life,  i even explained that she could claim it in her insurance foc, in the end i said "ive been doing this job 30+years and your the very first to bring this minor defect into such a castrophe, steaming exhausts, mayo in cap, etc etc, but never this, good luck in your search then and basically dont come back because i cant find a car that reaches your oh so high expectations" in other words ****** off <_<. and customer was white, female, 25 ish, and came with a mechanic who praised the car :D

  10. Environment secretary Michael Gove is expected to reveal details of a targeted diesel scrappage scheme before July 31.

The Government has until Monday next week to publish a final revised UK Air Quality Plan for tackling nitrogen dioxide and it is expected the scrappage scheme plans will be part of measures set out in the plan.

According to The Times, the original plan of £500 million to fund a diesel scrappage scheme and £250m to help local councils launch clean air schemes “has evolved significantly".

The source from the Times also says Gove is expected to introduce new tests for diesel toxicity levels that go further than current EU standards.

Gove has previously criticised the EU testing regime over how it enforces emissions standards. The Government has also refused to rule out further changes to VED in the Budget this autumn.

Crazy, crazy week. Done about 80 hours this last week, and I have to admit, doing everything myself including the hands on repairs is taking its toll. However, 4 in a week out the door, and a healthy mark up on all of them.

Off up to Liverpool tomorrow to collect a very nice ebay find that I'm confident about. I have to admit it's going to be nice getting out the unit for a good 3/4 of the day.

Thinking seriously about getting a mechanic on board given the hands on nature of the stock I keep to free me up, but concerned the extra overheads will (at first at least) hurt the profits, we'll see. I know one thing, another 80hr 7 day week is NOT going to happen anytime soon!

good man keep it up :)

re mechanic, consider a ramp in the corner, and his rents paid by doing 25 hours for you ? something along those lines, that way your well, nearly in control ?
