Mk2 mx5’s, is anyone clued up on them!

Recommended Posts

I’ve a customer with one of these and he’s reported it’s leaking through the passenger footwell when he’s driving, he’s cleaned the usual drain holes and the car wears a car cover when it’s left, I’m based in the north east, could anyone recommend a specialist to me please?
Thank you

There is a blocked roof drain.

Watch some youtube videos.

Also checked the rear sills area for rust, that roof water sits there for years and tne metal under the pax seat corrodes from the inside :-)

Roof drains have been checked, it’s when he’s driving, strange little cars, very popular but quirky

Hi Andy

There was a guy on here a while ago that had a track car MX5 and messed about with them.

I cant remember his name though. He was north east based, Blaydon area from memory.

Sure I had this a while ago on a 2011 model.  It was leaking behind the glovebox and into the footwell if I remember.  There was a grommet  below the windscreen, under the passenger side scuttle that I resealed, quite a quick and easy job.  They did advise removing the wipers, but didn't in my case, a good dollop of tigerseal seemed to do.  Due to the design behind the dash it was really obvious to track its flow.  I only found it 30 minutes before the car went out, so was never 100% sure of success, but they never came back and that was at least a year ago. Hope this helps.

Cheers I’ll try that before going down the expert route

There isn't a lot to them to be fair, cant really be many other places for water to come in, unless its an ill-fitted screen?  Let us know if you find its coming in anywhere else, water leaks can be a nightmare, yet extremely satisfying to cure!  Worst bit is concealing the amount of tigerseal you have used, trying to convince a customer who notices -  "they come from factory like that sir"
