Accounting software

Recommended Posts

Good morning

Can anyone help with recommendations for a "mini-DMS"?

So far I've been getting away with keeping everything on spreadsheets and letting Autotrader generate my invoices.

But it's a bit cumbersome and a huge pain.

Sage One doesn't cut it at all and Sage 50 needs plugins from specialists, which seems a bit much for my needs.

I used to use Dragon2000 until they put their monthly subscription up a huge amount which no longer made it feasible for me to continue using.

I have now been using 'Motor Trade Assistant' since the middle of last year which I find to be very good and much better value than Dragon2000. The other advantage is that it has a Cash Book built in as well which makes VAT returns etc much easier. Dragon2000 would output to Sage, but I never really got on with Sage so found myself running a manual cashbook in Excel.

You can download a free trial version here and have a play with it:

They are very helpful with regard to support etc as well.

The interface is a bit clunky and looks a bit dated compared to other on the market, but it's much cheaper!

Hope this helps!

Accounting software is highly recommended for the people who are working in business area. As basic information, the software has the ability to record and also to process accounting transactions in the functional modules. Another function of the software is as accounting information system. Some companies have built their own accounting software. However, you can also buy the software from the third party. The software can also be the combination between the third party applications and local modification. There are various options available in different complexity and cost.

We use Dragon2000 as our DMS system but also use sage totally separately. Dragon is supposed to integrate with Sage but we stopped using this function a couple of years ago as it just didn't work.

This means we enter lots of invoices onto both dragon & then sage but this is still less work that realising after months that the feed between the 2 systems hasn't worked properly and your figures are completely wrong.

Dragon is great other than it doesn't have functionality to add on non vehicle specific purchase invoices for example an Auto-trader invoice or an electricity bill. If it did we would have no need for Sage...

There are some people who consider that these bookkeeping services are not secure. Most of the business owners are not sure to get these services due to the fear of insecurity. An awesome thing about online bookkeeping software is that you not only get competent bookkeeping services, but also get full safety regarding the information of your business. Almost every bookkeeping website is developed with most upright safety techniques. So, there will be no prohibited and unauthorized access to your essential business information.:)

Which is exactly why I stopped using Dragon2000 (apart from the price hike) as I had to keep a separate cash book as well.

MTA incorporates a cash book as well as invoicing/stock book system - so everything goes on to MTA and it will produce VAT Return reports, Profit/Loss etc.

It is not the most glamorous UI in the world, but for the cost is excellent value!

If you can wait a couple of weeks, we are running  DMS feature in the next edition of Car Dealer, talking to the likes of Dragon2000, CDK, MDF, Gemini etc.. Hopefully this will give you a good idea of who has the right product for you

Blatantly stolen gag alert:

I hear that the guy who invented DMS systems, ATM machines and PIN numbers has died.

May he RIP in peace.
