Delivery from Preston to Kent

Anyone got any decent trade plate lads who work the NW area that they'd like to share some details? Looking for delivery of a pug from Preston BCA to Bromley. Must know the way cos the Nav don't work

Posted it up on Movex but getting telephone number (£250 driven??) quotes and I could get it transported for that.

45 to 50p per mile driven plus fuel is a normal price. I stopped using movex years ago as its just become one big rip off. I can ask a network of drivers i use and let you know if any of them can help James.

Have you tried motortradedelivery.com ?

They are an AT company but I have used them once and as far as I remember it was relatively good value.

Come on Benji, drop it off for James. It would be a real adventure. He'll compensate you adequately plus you can stop at our place (I am on your route) for a coffee and some priceless tips. If we manage to fix his broken Nav he might get us both a drink!

I tried Shipley and the cheapest I could get was about a quid a mile, driven. Yeah, fuck that.

It’s not just getting stuff delivered which is a problem.It is getting them pulled on site.We had three to collect at Blackbushe and the wagon driver was held up for nearly 4 hours.This resulted in us being surcharged 50% and our transport company being well out of pocket.Same chaos at Bedford,I have complained of course to BCA but don’t expect a reply.( I have suggested they should be liable for the surcharge considering their extortionate buyers fees).

If its all about the cost, buy a cheap ticket to preston and drive it back. You can get some bargains train tickets these days if you are flexible and avoid rush hour. Then drive it back? If you can manage to get a ticket in the afternoon you can have a nice easy drive back late in the evening (which i always prefer).

I have a guy up here who Normally grabs my stuff, TRSR recovery (also has plate drivers) and I also have a few plate drivers contacts up here too

It’s not completely about the cost but I think £200 is about right given that I pay that for Newcastle to me. I won’t lay awake at night if someone wants £220 but i’m getting quotes of £260 which I think is a pisstake.

No, delivery for Thursday/Friday is fine.

Try Anyvan, i used these now a few times and excellent service. Vehicles are loaded not driven and full tracking on where car is at all times !....i would avoid tradeplaters like the plague after bad experiences, they just do not care for any vehicle and will rag it about use every last bit of fuel overnight doing 100 extra miles.

I would rather pay an extra £60 quid and have a bit of peace of mind.

You would need to be picking up / delivering a lot of cars to warrant the cost of a truck, plus the time involved is time could be spent buying and selling, unless your employing someone and again more costs...

And unless your only specialising in small stuff most 3.5t trucks are useless !

I use Anyvan but currently their flexible option is down on their website. Otherwise yes, I agree with you.

No question about it, this is the way I’d be doing it, would probably have had it back by now!

and of course all those extra scratches and the dinners the yard staff ate in it will most likely come out with a dentmaster and major clean

I did and it already earns its keep - all vehicles back within 24 hours of auction close (5 the other week).

Again, be careful with payload - dont expect to carry anything much bigger/heavier than a small hatch - I have 1500kg payload but only if I don't have lunch that day.

I have a Class 1 HGV licence but gaining an O licence is too much of a faff - plus sometimes the truck is in the unit, other times it is at home.  I don't think even my reasonable neighbours would appreciate 44 tons and 11 cars outside overnight.

I would consider a smart 7.5t two car transporter and trailer option though (still need O licence though)

i used to run 71/2 ton

you didnt need anything no tax as it was recovery no mot if you wanted to exempt it (i never did although it was a faff if it failed because you might wait 4 weeks for a retest slot)

then you had to have an o licence i could get round that as i sold the truck to a mate for £1 who had an operators licence as he was a transport manager

then running on trade plates was stopped

then recovery tax kept going up

so i went from 7/1/2 to 51/2 now im down to 3.5 but very careful what i carry

its like going back to the late 50's and the new mk1 transit broke the mould
