merc e250 flywheel / clutch noise

gents i have a merc e250 estate "manual" 2010 CDI with 130k on it.

when it came in, when revving, it sounded like a tractor..... typical dual mass fly wheel noise. noise when you dip the clutch etc etc

spoke to about 10 people and all said flywheel which i predicted.  £1100 deep and we are still no further along!

noisy when revving, even louder if you dip the clutch in and out why holding the revs at 3000 rpm.

clutch, flywheel and release bearing all changed, but engine is still shaking its bollox off!!!

engine mounts all fine! is there anywhere else i need to be looking??? at a loss.

PS those silicon filled floating engine mounts can look fine when they are indeed fucked...been there with a C Class...just saying.

hi tradex, rev and 3000 rpm and hold, deep tractor noise, dip clutch, changes noise but to a different pitch..... release clutch, still deep rumbling noise..... mate, it sounds like a flywheel out of shape but its all been changed.....

why would the gearbox be making a noise if the car is static?

also the engine really jumps about when you start the car!

Hi Grant

I presume this has the OM651 Engine in it?

These engines sound horrible when they are ok, however they do suffer from noisy timing chains at the rear of the engine which can be mis-diagnosed as flywheel rattle.

I will repeat, they are a very agricultural sounding engine anyway.

 

We also had a flywheel go noisy on one of these after 4 months of replacing, Euro covered it luckily.

hi, thanks for this. i have the exact same car but auto also in stock, and they sound totally different. it sounds absolutely dreadful the one in question in comparison

ok, we are looking at timing chain at the minute.... im dropping it down to a local specialist. would the bad injector bring on the engine management light?

Hi,

I have several OM651's on my Workshop Books, yes they are nowhere near as sweet as the earlier OM646, but still a nice Engine, and very gitsy in comparison.

Can you feel a vibe through the Car when Idling and revving a little off idle ??

I'd put a Tranny Mount on it first, (Genuine MB one), they aren't that dear did one earlier in the year, transformed the car. 

Motor Mounts also suffer, lift Engine slightly to see in Vibe Changes

it certainly sounds like an engine problem than a gearbox /mounting problem

I had the same thing last month, merc specialist diagnosed as an educated guess two mounts (Engine and Gearbox) had gone, until they were removed you can't see how bad they are. Sorted it for me.

They do rock and roll about, but if the mounts are good you do not feel it through the Car !!

Do not fit cheaper non genuine mounts !!

Or are you saying it misfires, does it have rattles or vibration ??

These Engines are so tightly wound emissions wise that any tiny issue with Misfire / Airflow through the Engine would definitely pop a Light and Message on Cluster, plus other Codes stored.

Could try getting it on SDS Xentry for an hour with a GOOD operator, but that would probably cost more than a genuine Gearbox Mounting, last one i bought was around £35.

lets see what they bring back, ive given the guys deposit back, so it is what it is now. im no longer holding onto deposits and stressing myself out, im also no longer advertising cars until they are all good now. literally a pain in the arse.

indeed. and one head of hair, and i can no longer afford to lose much more hair - customer came in kicking off.... lol - i said have your money back then.... ill call you when its fixed, if you still want it then great if not then ill add £500 to it and sell it again lol
