Trade plate holders

Recommended Posts

So got a fine for displaying inside the car, well, we have appealed but unlikely to win. But for everyone else having issues I’ve found the solution on eBay.

and these

Probably won’t fit all cars at the rear but don’t get fined. DVLA are right halfwits over this matter.

You can buy caravan or trailer plate holders for around a pound or two each and adapt them to do exactly the same job. I used similar to fit trade plates covering the current plate of the car but this was forbidden a while ago. I just display in windscreen again. I think (not 100% sure) that cars IN TRADE will not get fined, only SORN cars.

The ones on those listings are terrible. I bought a set but have never used them as they are horrible sharp things that will cut your fingers and scratch your cars. We bought the suction cup type and have been using them successfully for the last 3 or 4 years without problems

Do you cover the plates with the suction holder? You may as well keep them in the windscreen as both are forbidden.

I have attached the DVLA guidance note VTL301G section 4:

I usually cover the plates with them but you don't have to. I can't believe a copper is going to pull you for doing that. You were very unlucky to get nicked for putting them in the window

Chuck them in the window and carry on and if we ever get fined for it suck it up and move on.

I had some of those metal clip ones but they only fit the front of half of our stock and rarely fit on the rear of anything...definite finger cutters too!

Idiots STILL say they must be displayed VERTICALLY. So funny.

I use the 2nd pair on Grants link.

Fiddly but do the job. But they won't work on cars, such as Peugeot 207,etc with low front number plates. Nor cars where the number plate is just above the bumper.

Oh. Don't use them on Astra VXR'S. The exhaust is below the number plate. Burnt mine!!

I also have a set of the rubber holders but find there is no way to attach them on these modern cars with under trays.

I get what they mean, they mean to say that the plate shouldn't be facing the sky stuck on a flat bonnet or boot lid but vertical is a daft word to use for this.
