  1. Yes you read it right. Just had a 3 month trial with Ebay/gumtree, always been with Autotrader. All I am bothered about is £ per sale. Ebay/gumtree £120 + vat per sale. Autotrader £90 + vat per sale. Marked increase in enquiries with ebay on board but the quality of leads are a lot worse than autotrader. Think I might give cargurus a trial or fbautomotives facebook marketplace for £25.
  2. I dont buy from auctions. I started out buying from local auction but got fed up of going and coming away with nothing. Waste of time I found.
  3. I have been doing it 3 years started with just an interest in cars, no contacts (apart from place I take my personal car for mot) Its a bit doom and gloom on here. Whats hard, I buy a car, I drive to paint (if needed), I drive it to service/mot, I drive it to valeters, put photos online. Viewing by appointment at my home address (most cars kept on some storage land). Sell 10 retail a month trade 3 or 4 on. Around 10 advertised at any one time. Hardest bit at first was sourcing cars but I find it easy now. (I have more than I have room for, hence trading some on). Don't have many problems but only buy cars that are good examples and from reliable brands. Get trade plates, get traders policy and put more effort into the buying than everything else put together.
  4. Thanks for the clarification. Appreciated. Totally agree with the above. I avoid selling anything for less than £2000. My original point is I was trying to make was that you dont have to give a warranty on everything. You can sell cars for spares or repairs. (although you have to tread carefully).
  5. He replied regarding who is a consumer, nothing was mentioned regarding selling an unroadworthy car. I was always under the impression an unroadworthy car could be sold as long as it was stated to be unroadworthy. How can there be come back on a car that is being advertised and sold for spares or repairs. It is as described, it is fit for purpose (the purpose being spares or repairs) and of satisfactory quality.
  6. So we get a old banger in px its too good to scrap but not worth enough to prep properly (service fresh mot warranty valet etc). Can we or cant we sell it as spares or repairs?
  7. Only time I dont give warranty if its a 1) trade sale. or 2) Its a old banger took in px, receipt would state spares or repairs, car is assumed to be unroadworthy, buyer agrees not to drive the car on public road until it has been put in a roadworthy condition, or words to that affect. I have very occasionally been slightly naughty in past with number one. I have sold retail cars to people such as mechanics who where buying for theirselves (and only if they are sensible after chatting with them) and written it up as a trade sale and given a small discount. As for number 2 its only with cars advertised for 500 or 600 at most. But I try to avoid this as I hate dealing with people who are buying cars for this money. I try to trade them on to the unnoficial facebook trader types.
  8. Basic package, they called me offered me 10 for 298+vat, I said no, he then offered 10 for 239+vat. 239 is the price for a 12 month contract but said I could have this for a 3 month trial. There 10 car package is actually 13 car package they give 3 for free. Worth a try for 3 months.
  9. Always used autotrader. Expensive but best imo. 800+ vat 9 cars package Just signed up with ebay/gumtree. 13 cars 239+vat per month. (3 month trial) Just started tracking sales, 5 sales since started asking 4 autotrader 1 gumtree. Probable meaningless as such small sample size. My stock profile is 8 to 13 year old petrol cars less than 90000 miles.
  10. How do you tell if a car is in trade? I recently purchased a car without v5 and sent off for v62 in company name. I thought you needed the previous keepers post code to be able to tax a car on v62?

    Hello

Been reading for a while, learnt a lot from you guy, thanks. Thought its about time I got involved. Been trading a couple of years, going well. I trade from home and have about 10 to 15 cars in stock at any one time.
  12. Do people find it is worth paying extra for the sponsored ads and extra photos on Autotrader? At the moment I am pay as you go and it costs anywhere from £30 for 2 weeks to nearly £60 for 3 weeks with extra photos and sponsored ad status (shows higher on mobile/tablet.) I have been experimenting with different packages but cant decide. I am not too bothered about extra photos but I am wanting to know if others find it gets a much better response when paying for sponsored status than not.
