  1. I've got a repeat customer who is after a low mileage 1st car for their son, up to £5k. They've suggested something like a VW Up and gave asked me to keep an eye out for the right car. I've had nothing to do with these, are they any good? Any common issues to watch out for?

It’s his responsibility to cancel the direct debit. Tell him politely it’s his responsibility to manage his own banking affairs and ask how you are supposed to control direct debits that leave his personal bank account each month?

Then state you will not be entering into any further discussions on this matter.

Oh, and start transferring ownerships of cars online.

    This. LIKE x 1,000,000,000

I dont take a deposit until I've seen a customer and theyve seen the car - no 'holding deposit' over the phone for me. I dont want to take a car off sale for 3 days based on a telephone conversation and miss anyone in between. theres only 1 beneficiary to deposits in advance of viewing and thats the customer. Ive encountered them before where theyve admitted to putting holding deposits on 3 other cars, just to reserve them till they get around to viewing them - thats at least 2 disappointed businesses. It also seems to speed up how quickly they can get around to seeing the car - strange that.

My only concession is i'll put it 'on hold' while theyre travelling, but they have to call to tell me they are getting in the car or train NOW.

But then I dont offer an extensive video like Simon does whereby I think he is absolutely justified in doing business his way.

    Exactly the same here.

same thing ocs, im ni based and sold a car to guy in mainland, no issues at all

Ok great, just treat it like a normal sale then? Assume the MOT & Tax rules are the same over there. I spoke to a local dealer who did one years ago, and seemed to recall havinf to hand over the full V5? But appreciate times have changed.

  5. Hi All,

Appreciate I should really know this, but first time it's happened. I've sold a car to a lady from Belfast, she's coming over to collect the car in just over a week. Do I just fill out the new keeper details online like I would normally, and just use the Belfast address obviously. Or is it not quite that simple? And I'm assuming she will need to tax it normally in order to be able to drive it to the ferry port....? (Not sure if the tax system is the same over there). Presumably it would still be worth me supplying a brand new, advisory free MOT?

I appreciate I should really know this, but we don't usually deal with type of thing...

    Cheers

Been OK for us then dead as can be.

Some of our blue chip stuff like low miles C1 VTR's and Clios are hanging around too....time of the year, too hot, sunspots, Brexit, World Cup, tides, Boris resigning, too much daylight, not enough bees.....just the usual excuses for this time of year.

    Not enough bees....

Personally i wouldn't do it, it stinks of the hubby getting so much ear ache for buying the car that he eventually crumbles and you enter in the situation where they try and find every reason possible to return it.

Not worth the hassle of trying to defend a perfectly good car :) unless you can turn it into a double and sell the wife something sporty too to keep her quiet.

Yeah I agree, this has got buyer's remorse all over it, before they've even bought it! Your right to trust your gut instinct, but I know you don't need me to tell you. :)

    You're

it might be best if you do the maintenance then so as to keep everything in good order, you dont say what year or model it is but a lot of older models still need their npples greasing on the swivels and trunnions so it might be  best  to look into this,be aware some models are very high maintenance so consider this too as you wont be covered if its a business to business transaction

I'm sure a quick oil change will suffice ;)

I subscribe to Cazana, which works well for me - quite often it brings up the last advert (if there is one) of the car you are valuing, together with who was selling it.  Quite interesting - doesn't happen everytime, just sometimes.

It also gives you a good retail price based on live market data I believe.

    What does that cost?

  10. I need a non-runner picking up from BCA Blackbushe, back to me here near Peterborough. BCA can offer the service, but I could be waiting ages!! Can anyone on here recommend someone trust worthy and reliable who could do it fairly swiftly? Obviously the car would need to be winched on..

    Cheers

    Same hereB)

    And here.

Saturday’s are so quiet now, I keep thinking about closing Saturday. Now that would be living the dream, a whole weekend off! B)

Or at the very least do viewing by appointment on a Saturday. Very rare that anyone just turns up on a Saturday.
