  1. I am somewhat skeptical why the manufactures haven’t stamped this out, there must be an advantage to them not doing so.

Maybe with the massive growth of PCP deal and the likes, it isn’t in there interest to have cars come back with high miles, whilst they can charge for the additional mileage what do they do with them then? I bet they would rather have a low mileage example come back in which they could retail on through there dealer networks.

    Call my synclinal.

I dont use man or bca so don't use the sure check or assured service. I buy a lot from aston barclay who dont run a assured service on general dealer auctions, I find the prices are cheaper compared to bca (comparing with friends who buy out of bca) but the issue is its sold as seen.

I guess I have the advantage of having a workshop so if I do buy a shed I can turn it around as cheap as possible, I guess its about having a well oiled machine, if yo have a cheap reliable mechanic and good paint man you can take more risks when buying to get ahead of book prices.

I follow this game plan, also gives the major advantage of doing all your own warranty issues

Thanks Justina, I've got an accountant and Ive got nothing to hide from taxman so I'm not too worried about that .... Yes we became vat reg last august but I'm struggling to do the book keeping to be fair and really could do with having a system set in place where you can easily put everything together ever quarter and see how much profit your in

Hi, sorry you have misunderstood my post I never intended to imply you had something to hide from the revenue, only to suggest that the revenue in my dealings with them viewed every single error I made as a plot to defraud them, so if they did turn up and things where way behind they would put two and two together and make six

i would suggest every quater is to long a period to be trying to allocate every single spend and equal a base line profit maybe monthly, unless you have an on the ball book keeper or an expensive accounts package.

  4. Self warranty is the way forward in my view each to there own really does depend on what you sell value how much you pull out of them on average so many variable factors but for me doing it myself wins hands down.

  5. Welcome along, with the value of cars your looking at i would say at sadly is the way forward, also i would look at other options regarding warranties plenty of threads to read through on here and make an informed choice.

Hey thanks for all the advice and its nice to hear that there are aome genuine car dealers around.  I dont understand why dealers like this would rip people off but i find it unfair.  This is the first time on this site as i was looking for people who had been through this as I have heard this is a common problem lately.

I very much doubt you will find people with similar problems on here sorry to say, its more like dealers moaning about this and that some days where are happy but there far and few between.

And in fairness its not only the motor trade that has a few bad apples there in all walks of life, you only have to turn the tv on and its full of cowboy builders and the likes the list goes on, i do feel if the trade was all bad it would be more shows high lighting them, i know a lot of people in my local car area and can hand on heart say i would only avoid two out of maybe 30 so thats not a bad percentage.

Doesnt help you i know just saying.

Can I just say. I have recently been a victim to this. Its horrible i have 3 kids and saved for a while to get a grand. I would expect somthing clean for that even though u might class it a banger. Anyway. Went to a dealership that advertised on gumtree ford focus 12 month MOT clean as a whistle drives nice get there, sign paper work he goes on about trade sale. I thought that meant trade money for a car, not that i work in the bloody car trade! Anyway drives beautifully for 3 weeks then blows up literally with my kids in the car fire brigade the works. So i phone the dealership have it checked by a trained mechanic and offer him the option of fixing it .. no no he says. Your a trader and we dont sell any cars under 2 grand to the public.. your invoice says trade sale! Bullshit! He knew full well Im a public member off bloody gumtree. He wouldnt offer to even get it looked at. Its an absolute disgrace!! I have spoken to trading standards today. Just warn you dealers, Putting Trade Sale on an invoice does NOT COVER YOU TO SELL TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITHOUT LIABILTY FOR 30 DAYS! You have no right to sell under false pretences for hard working families that just need a tidy car to go from A to B! Stop this bullshit. You will be liable in court and they are clamping down on what you might think is a loophole but the law is toughening up on this sort of thing. So think twice if u want to sell "trade cars" Make sure they are actually to other traders!!

i truly hope you get justice, not all dealers are the same hope next time you have more luck.

  8. i would be getting some advise asap, the revenue will love you when they pop along, if you have registered for vat recently they will for sure come out to do a first inspection.

You should have an accountant by now maybe ask there advise on a part time book keeper if your that far behind.

I do mine daily so there is only a small handful of invoices to deal with, bank account on a app so any monies going out i can record daily so at the end of the month i am not scratching my head why i took a few quid out here and there.

Sometimes we are all guilty of being a busy fool, ie spending all the time saving money here and there and then having to give it all away to an accountant as we didnt do the basics ourselves, been there done that got the gold badge.

  9. Coming from Wales people from Devon used to ring us daily saying your only 20 odd miles away yes if you take the ferry if you take the car your talking more like 250 miles, one donkey even left us negative feedback saying whats the point listing a car so far away.

that was the last straw for me stopped using them after that which was a shame up until the big changes it used to work well for us.

  10. Problem i always found with fleabay is the search default which is always set to best match, not closest first as it used to be back in the day, so you get into stupid discussions about someone 150 miles away from us has the same car for £50 less, where as gumtree and mongbook doesnt have that problem.

  11. I would say I am pretty much in the same market as you, only difference is our bottom lines £300 is not a lot of profit for the level of work your putting in I would look there first off and answer yourself why, then look to change it.

I have no experience with AT so can't answer you there sadly loads of other guys and dolls on here do so I am sure someone will pop along shortly to help there.
