It sounds like the Canbus issues you get with Vauxhalls to me. When you fit replacement parts the old part needs divorcing from the body ECU and the new one marrying to it. Then any stored errors clearing. I assume this is what Ford are providing for the £110!?
If that is the case an Indy should be able to do that for half the price than the main stealer...

Yep totally agree with your last sentence as I have witnessed that on here in the past, and it did put me off posting initially due to some hostility towards new members. I've never understood the mentality to be honest, as firstly there is no such thing as too much competition when it comes to business, and secondly as you say we were all new once and needed advice or guidance.
I don't think the forum being private would make any difference from a help and support perspective to established or new dealers for that matter. It's just a few formalities regarding proof of trading to gain access and if everyone's a bonafide dealer then that shouldn't be too much of a hurdle to meet the criteria. Anyway it's kind of immaterial now with the private lounge I guess!

Ha I was only thinking the very same thing!! If it were me because the forum is so open I wouldn't have posted that saga in the first place. Even most FB club's are set to private these days and some require proof of xxx to gain entry. I've always been puzzled as to why this forum is so open and am not sure what the benefit is and to whom?
That's one of the reasons I hardly post anything of real importance... and that's a shame as it's good to share!

Yeah I've just read about this, although I knew it was coming to be honest!
This is going to affect the modified tuning scene as it's big business to cut open the DPF, remove the innards and weld it back up again. The EGR valve is also blanked and then the car is remapped to a higher BHP/torque output, and any files relating to DPF regeneration and the EGR are also removed so neither cause a problem again. It was only a matter of time before the MOT regulations and the tech they use to detect this was updated.
However the established tuners are already one step ahead, no matter how they read the parameters on their diagnostics... So in reality the cat and mouse game isn't over yet!

The Consumer Rights Act
The Consumer Rights Act came into force on 1 October 2015 and covers the purchase of goods, digital content and services including new and used cars from official dealers (it doesn't apply to private sales) as well as servicing, repairs and maintenance work.
Like the Sale of Goods Act that preceded it, the Consumer Rights Act states that products must be:
- of satisfactory quality
- fit for purpose, and
- as described
(For cars purchased before 1 October 2015 the Sale of Goods Act still applies)
The dealer must have the right to sell the vehicle and is liable for faults with the vehicle - that mean it was not of satisfactory quality - that were present at the time it was sold even though they may only become apparent later on.
Satisfactory quality
Satisfactory quality means that the vehicle should be of a standard a reasonable person would expect, taking into account factors such as:
- age
- value
- history
- mileage
- make
- durability
- safety, and
- description
An old car with high mileage would not be expected to be as good as a younger car with low mileage but each should still be roadworthy, reliable, and in a condition consistent with its age/price.
Wear and tear
The dealer is not liable for fair wear and tear, where the vehicle broke down or the fault emerged through normal use, nor are they liable if they drew your attention to the full extent of any fault or defect before you bought the car.
Fit for purpose
Fit for purpose means that you must be able to use the vehicle for the purposes that you would normally expect from a vehicle including any particular purpose that you tell the dealer about before you buy, or which the dealer has advertised or gleaned from your conversation. This would include towing or short journey use.
Faults, repairs and refunds
Under the new act, if a fault renders the product not of satisfactory quality, not fit for purpose or not as described, then the buyer is entitled to reject it within the first 30 days.
Between 30 days and 6 months
If a fault comes to light after 30 days but before 6 months have passed then you are entitled to a repair, replacement or refund. It is assumed in law that the fault was present at the time of purchase unless the seller can prove otherwise. During this period, unless you have agreed otherwise, the seller (dealer) has only one opportunity to repair (or replace) the faulty vehicle after which, if they fail to repair it, you are entitled to a refund.
In the event of a refund following a failed attempt at repair during the first six months the seller is permitted to make a 'reasonable' adjustment to the amount refunded to take account of the use that you have had of the vehicle since you bought it.
After 6 months
For faults that arise after six months the burden is on you to prove that the product was faulty at the time of delivery if you want to pursue a claim for repair or replacement.

I'm with RBS (soon to be Williams & Glynn again), and find them great. I've got the business banking app and that let's you access your account 24 hours on the move. You can set up new payees on it and transfer funds immediately. I think it qualifies for the faster payment service so in theory they get the funds immediately, but they cover their behinds by stating two hours.

CAP pricing is off it's t*ts recently, and no where near reality on most of the stock I go after, and to make matters worse I seem to be being outbid on everything! Like above I'm not sure there's anything left in them after fees...it's just crazy! At first I just thought it was a billy bunter with bidding fever, but then started to see the cars listed with dealers way more expensive than anything else.
Last month I took my father to Manheim to look at a Saab 9-5 Sportwagon which is not my market really. Anyway it's a one owner Turbo Edition 1.9td with 35k and on a 60 plate, so quite a late one. From memory it was booking around 34 hundred but as these have quite a strong following I was expecting to pay over book to win. I stopped at £4200 in disbelief, and it just kept going all the way to £7100!! (So fees on top too) Even the auctioneer laughed half way through and said '' Well CAP obviously means nothing at all on this one''!!
Two days later it's on a London dealers pitch for £8500...

It's funny how we all have completely different experiences with the same platforms.
I still quite like eBay as they at least give you the freedom to construct proper paragraph's, and freehand to write as much as you like about the car, plus decent sized photo's.... I find listing only in classified's isn't as painful as the regular auctions, plus I get quite a bit of custom from Southern Ireland being only 10 minutes from the airport and an hour from the Holyhead ferry.
Personally not had any problem regarding feedback yet...

I think we all know the problem with eBay is that you tend get more idiots than the other platforms. They'll send you illiterate messages and not get back to you when you invest the time to give them everything and more that they've asked for. If they do they'll then try to knock you down on price at every opportunity, and if that's not annoying enough if they'll become winning bidders who end up not paying!!
Personally when I do use eBay I only place my adverts as classifieds... Yes you still get the odd dumb-ass, but generally a whole lot less painful.

Amazon was the recent on-line megabuck to announce they would start an automotive community although initially not selling cars themselves, more of a place for reviews and buy accessories...They have hinted at a car offering platform, but nothing has been confirmed as far as I'm aware.
Elon Musk was the owner of PayPal before selling it off to fund SpaceX and Tesla. Not connected to TripAdvisor as they were part of the Expedia group before being floated off and made a PLC...
OP you didn't mention eBay who also own Gumtree? I know the latter isn't everyone's cup of tea, but eBay classified's has a big audience, are not that greedy, and I'd have put that above some of the others you've mentioned. Then there's Pistonheads which probably fits around Motor's/Gumtree in terms of consumer footfall I would guess??

If you do it online no-one needs to sign section 8. You can still give the customer the green slip (section 10) though. Doing it on-line means the customer gets their new V5 much quicker. I always photocopy V5's anyway so the customer has a copy of the original for their file, and history of the car...
