If your looking to get a number of quotes yourself with minimal time and effort, id recommend trying Utility Saving Expert.

Got a number of quotes from them and they give 10% of their profits to charity which is a nice feel-good-factor.

There website is >> Utility Saving Expert

Compare sights are totally useless for trade insurance... but I guess you work for them as this is your first post!

  2. Just to update I've used them a few times now and have to say they work well with no movement at all... The first couple of runs I used the bungee straps for extra security, but soon realised they weren't moving at all so removed them and went commando!

Even at motorway speed they didn't budge an inch (25mm for you millennials :P

  3. I've used billboards in another Retail industry and it worked well for us! However that was for something new to the market or new to that particular town/city, so not quite the same as a used car dealer... Like you say, if you sell one car from it, then it's paid for itself, and if nothing else it's planted some seeds in peoples heads that you exist and maybe, just maybe the next time they want a car they'll come to you!

  4. Well my new trade plate holders have arrived today and these have the spring clips that fit over the ends of your existing reg plate, BUT display the trade plate below the existing reg, so as to not cover it up. I have to say it's really simple but well made and they fit everything front and rear that I have in stock at the moment. I've also purchased two security wires that dog clip to the trade plates that you can run through a grill or trap under the boot/bonnet as an extra bit of piece of mind so that they won't fly off...

am sure they would love to have smaller sites and buildings in the middle of no where with cheap rates and low staff costs but reality it is not going to happen.

They are in the middle of nowhere lol... I can't count the amount of times I've said balls to it, and had a car delivered as the auction house in nowhere near the bloody train station, and the journey would have been like a john candy clip out of trains planes and automobiles just to get there!

manheim washington, grade 1 320 BMW, needed all 4 wheels, the boot and the front bumper, the boot was visible from outer space

Yeah that's bad Andy and hopefully you got some dollar back for that! They need to held accountable for mis-describing the condition...

What I meant was you wouldn't have detected the heater problem even if you'd been present, but by the sounds of it, you wouldn't have bid at all, or adjusted you bid accordingly given the new evidence.

to be fair it cant happen can it

so many people see selling cars as selling beans

as said in other threads its not

cars are unique in that theres a million things to look at once its not brand new and kevin and his clipboard hasnt got the experiance or training to fully appraise all cars

i got a car back from the mot today and found the heater motors not working so ive taken the dash out as you do,how would you find that by buying from your office laptop:lol:

Yeah but by the same token you wouldn't have picked that up either if you'd been stood out in the cold as the car drives into the hall asking the driver ''How does it drive mate''?

You're always going to get discrepancies and that's accepted. It the blatant lies on condition that's unacceptable, and we've all been bitten at some point.

  7. I actually prefer the layout of the Manheim website to BCA's... Although both could be improved immensely!

Anyway back to the OP's question... The only difference is the on-line fee in addition to the buyers premium and any Surecheck fees. They charge this whether it be a live on-line auction or buy-it-now. I've never understood this fee at all, as surely it's just a con/revenue generator!?

  8. Definitely brave Jim!

But you're are in a good place to do this. You're well known, great reputation, many followers and presumably a good trickle of repeat business too, along with some tried and tested experience of this kind of media offering.

  9. So as bad as the Auctions then... I can't count the amount of times I've been stung where the inspection and condition reports have described a perfect car and come collection I've found a myriad of faults not mentioned even on grade 1 stuff! And the Auction houses response...Well mate it's inspected from 1 metre away and it's up to you to re-evaluate it! Yeah like that works when you buy a car on-line from 250 miles away and either train it there, or have it delivered.

If this was any other retail situation they'd be liable especially with distance selling regulations!

  10. Yeah they have a strong following and very similar customers to Alfas. Clean low mileage one owner cars are getting rare now, especially as the newest are 6 years old already. Like most things, condition and history is everything in this market, and enthusiasts of the brand will pay good money if all of that is right.

  11. No not me... Wouldn't have touched that to be honest... Dual mass on those are mega expensive, although the 2.4 5 pot is bomb proof, and a fabulous engine that will tune to 300bhp easily! Vastly underrated, and very addictive once turned, and actually sound good with the 5 pot burble for the devils fuel lol. Grade 3 BCA are usually pretty bad, Manheim not quite so, but with those sort of prices there's nothing left in the deal.

I bought a mint 1 owner Saab 9-3 Turbo Edition instead today. Just waiting for quotes to come back from Movex to get it delivered as I'm too busy to get it.

Trade policies have been very much on the up the last few years. We were with Tradewise  for 10 years until this year. 1400 slices sounds about right to me but there are mentions of an independent broker on here getting better deals...someone will be along to shout that out.

We are now with Covea and saved 300 quid. Still have personal use cover (have 3 on at the moment) accompanied demonstration and they still cover some oddball stuff on approval....like an old London Taxi for instance we took in chop!

Their MID database portal is good and they record trade plates which is something I don't recall Tradewise asking for.

If you are doing 1 or 2 a month it would be hard to justify a trade insurance....maybe easier to just insure privately and pay the administration costs to change insurance over each....not knowing if that is practical as you wouldn't have proper demo' cover etc.

Sorry to hear the cost is prohibitive when you are trying to things correctly.

As an aside our public liability insurance took a hike this year too...just waiting for the trade plate costs to get silly.

Not sure whether you saw this or not as the forum merged my posts...

The thing is if a German car gave me the problems an Alfa always does, I would hate it. But you kind of indulge Alfa's and just accept their flaws. I love Alfa's, so do other people it seems, good lower milage ones are not easy to buy!

Yep agreed on both counts... 939 series cars particularly the Sportwagon's are going for silly money now. They seem to have had zero depreciation over the last few years. I sold a 1750tbi ti SW, one of the last off the line with the darkened 19'' ti wheels and mirrors for 14.5k in 2014, and a similar spec one at a London Specialist last month went the same money!!

  14. Sk try Bollington Insurance who are owned by Ageas on 01625 854458  . They've been great for me over the years, so deffo worth a phone call. There's also two other brokers who specialise in road risk that were recommended to me on here when I was last shopping around, but their names escape me at the minute... Ones Nantwich way and the other Blackpool I think? I'll dig out my quotes when I get a second and pass on their details to you.

    Right here goes...

Network Trade Insurance on 0800 121 6965 ask for Lee
    -  or Premiere Insurance Winsford ask for John on 01606 863400

  15. The only adjustment is where the actual glass is attached to the mechanism. The holes through the glass is much larger than the securing bolt that goes through it, so this gives you lateral and vertical movement so the window closes properly. On the 939 series cars the window drops an inch when you open the door, and likewise when you close it, it drops then rises again to seal against the body rubbers.

  16. Usually silicon spray works well on these. With them being frameless windows they are prone to getting grit down the runners, so that can cause the squeal. Have you also had a look at the regulator? The cables can wear after a while and eventually snap at the spring end, but can be noisy before that happens. eBay is usually the best place for parts, and also Italian eBay too.

I've just rejected a 2008 2.2 LE Spider at Auction for not being as described. It wasn't from Leeds was it lol?
