It a 6 months extension.but lasts up to year . Though i was reading an article in car mechanics magazine that tht may change at short notice so effectively from the 30th mar to 30th mar 2021 all cars have an 18 month mot  as it stands

Not sure if I am being a bit thick here, if it lasts for 12 months, won't the 6 month extension mean that your mot will expire during the 12 month period that the extension is valid for?

Will you then get another 6 month extension? That seems a bit pointless.

Yes you did say your neighbour, yet you accuse me of not being able to read. You cannot even remember what you wrote. I'm surprised you were not snapped up by the SOCA.

I'm not backtracking at all. Once again attitudes like yours are why people do not respect the police. They only have to be pulled over by someone like you and their whole view of the police is tarnished. I don't have to take into account of anything you have said, the same as you don't have to take into account anything I have said. I don't like people with the attitude that you have and you obviously feel the same about me. I can live with that.

Anyone see that Copper telling the lad the other day that he would make something up to get him arrested?

    He hasn't been suspended.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8ILyWzvGL0

This is interesting. A Copper insults a punter, then headbutts him, and arrests him. His colleagues release him and say sorry.

3 witnesses, body cam footage. Police do nothing.

Apparantly his Missus works for the people that investigate complaints against the Poilce.

    He's still at work.

It's taken this lad Crimebodge to take a private prosecution out against him.

I can understand why people resent the Police.

And before I get accused of being anti Police, I am in the process of attempting to join the Force, but not as an officer.

Panasonic is Japanese and they are making batteries for Tesla, but the Chinese (CATL) are bigger and growing much faster.  Like I said, Tesla make a lot of noise but they are the Alfa Romeo of EV's.  CATL are about to open a $2bn battery factory in Germany to supply batteries for BMW and Mercedes. They are set to supply just about every else apart from the Koreans.

The Chinese have now got control of most of the worlds supply of cobalt, which is essential for EV construction.

    Read more here :   https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-china-positioned-itself-to-dominate-the-future-of-electric-cars-11572804489

So are you still saying that China makes 'by far most of the world's electric batteries'?

Panasonic was a very good brand in the 70's just like pioneer

Yes Japanese but now sources from china

I wasn't really talking about hifi production....

  6. 2 hours ago, Halfpenny said:

No. By 2040 all new cars will be electric and most of them will be Chinese brands. China makes by far most of the world's electric car batteries and controls 95% of the mining rights for the various metals required for battery and motor production.  Companies like BYD are doing very well (heavily backed by Warren Buffet). Expect to see a BYD dealership in your town within the next five years. I've driven a couple of BYD cars and they are fine. The likes of Tesla will end up the Alfa Romeo of the electric car industry.

The only thing holding back China is limited production capacity and lack of resources (which is why they are buying up most of SE Asia, Africa and having a good go in Australia).  I've been to China a few times and they scare hell out of me. No regard for the environment, human rights or in fact anything other than money and market share. Totally ruthless in business.

Is Panasonic Chinese? I thought it was Japanese?

Most virus infection have been in London and Birmingham. You would expect a higher proportion of non-white patients than the national average.

Non-Whites tend to be poorer and subsequently have worse diets, health etc

That's why the South West has the lowest amount of infections and deaths I would think.

If she gets infected then goodbye to herself and the baby.

    Such people should be reported.

You wonder where do the youth these days get their brains from...

That isn't really accurate. If you contract the virus and you are pregnant, it doesn't automatically kill you both.

But I agree that it is a bit stupid.

We went for a walk this evening, could smell weed, and hear loud voices, came round the corner, there were about 6 youngsters sat on a blanket, having a picnic, having an in depth discussion about ketamine and its positive benefits.

This is a very interesting article and unfortunately backs up what I have been saying since day one about looking after your body, especially when it comes to being overweight:

An analysis of 3,883 Covid-19 patients admitted to 229 critical care units in England, Wales and Northern Ireland up to Thursday has been published by the Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre

Of these patients, 871 have died, 818 have been discharged, and 2,194 were last reported as still receiving critical care.

The average age of the patients was 59.8 years. Some 72.5% were male, and 27.5% female. Some 66.4% were white, 14.4% Asian, 11.9% black, and 1.3% of mixed race.

    • Nearly three-quarters of the patients had a body mass index higher than the recommended healthy level of 18.5 to 25. Some 35% had a BMI of 25 to 30 - the overweight range. And 38.5% had a BMI over more than 30 - putting them in the obese range.
    • 93.2% had previously been able to live without assistance in daily activities. Only 6.7% previously needed some assistance, and just three needed total assistance.
    • Focusing on the 1,053 patients who needed advanced respiratory support, the average age on admission was 61.9 years. 73% were male, 27% female. Out of this group, 66.3% died, and 33.7% are alive.
    • Examining the final outcome for patients admitted to critical care, for the 133 aged 16-39, 76.7% were discharged alive, and 23.3% died. For the 484 aged 60-69, 43.6% were discharged alive, and 56.4% died. For the 434 aged 70-79, 31.3% were discharged alive, and 68.7% died. And for the 107 aged over 80, 27.1% were discharged alive, and 72.9% died.

You also have to note that I think 87% of the population is white, but only 66.4% of people in hospital are.

I will try and find a link but there was an EE engineer saying people were complaining that the masts were giving them headaches since they were erected, turns out they hadn’t been switched on lol

    That is a classic.

But if you can't trust David Icke, who can you trust???

  11. If it all goes to shit selling cars, how about starting a business putting up phone masts?

    Plenty of repeat business.

Having worked for EE previously and knowing a few engineers, I can confirm that all the 5g will kill you stuff is utter bollocks.

I did used to love watching someone with a cigarette in their hand telling me how mobile phones give you cancer.

If you can't see how saying, minimum 50% will die "ANYWAY" then you need your head checking.

"ANYWAY", to add to your facts, people who smoke choose to do so.

Why is alcohol and sugar legal?

What purpose does it serve? What a silly questionh, I mean what purpose does shagging a woman in their arse serve?

    Nope never smoked.

I hope your staying in and only leaving your home if necessary!

Ok. Worst case scenario, you contract the virus, you get taken into hospital, but they have just given the last ventilator to someone who has destroyed their lungs by 'choosing' to smoke. You will obviously be ok with that? Is smoking a massive burden on the NHS? Yes.

Alcohol serves no purpose nutritionally, but sugar is a carbohydrate that is used for energy.

Are you saying that people enjoy smoking?

Alcohol is as pointless as smoking, it would be a brave Government that banned that. But it is also a massive burden on the NHS.

Yes I am staying in, doing my daily exercise. I know that if there is one bed left and it's me or someone twice my size who smokes and drinks and hasn't looked after themselves, I'm more likely to get the bed.....

There you go, a positive message.

I think the point is the timescale.  If the extra illness and deaths caused by the virus were spread over, say, a year then the health and care services could cope. The crucial issue in a pandemic is that the disease spreads very rapidly so massive numbers become sick at the same time. Imagine if within a month several million people needed hospital treatment.  The NHS would collapse. And it wouldn't just be virus patients that would suffer. There would be no capacity to deal with heart attacks, strokes, accidents etc.

The OECD are estimating a 2% impact on GDP for each month of lockdown. If we need three months then that's a 6% hit. Its bad but a long way from catastrophic - its better than the alternative.

This all correct, but a study says that if the economy contracts by more than 7% more people will die through poverty.

This will not go on for too long, it cannot.

Unfortunately for the press, who are lapping this up, all the famous people who are catching it are not getting very ill.

Apart from Linda Lucardi, who was at 'deaths door' a couple of days ago, but is now fine. There must be a lungs joke in there somewhere.

On a brighter note, Nextgear have frozen their funding.

You can't compare obesity and smoking they are lifestyle choices. Plus on TV/media etc  always banging on about obesity and the underlying health probkems. Have you not seen the photos on cigarette packets.

And minimum of 50% would have died anyway? Where did you get those figures from.... That statement is just a disregard for life, heartless.

50% was the minimum. It was half to two thirds of people who will die from this would have died this year.

How is that a disregard for life? It is a fact.

The pictures on a packet of cigarettes, you would only see if you had purchased them. Do you know anyone who has purchased a pack of cigarettes and then not smoked them because they had looked at the pictures. Thought not.

Why is smoking legal? What purpose does it serve?

The Spanish and French Governments have put massive restrictions on travel and movement, but one of the very few reasons to go out is to visit the tobacconist.

That makes sense, don't get within 2 metres of anyone, but you can smoke.

As I have already said, my Mother In Law has terminal lung cancer, she has smoked all her life.

This virus won't even be close to the amount of deaths caused by smoking, but according to you 'it's a life style choice'.

Do you/ have you ever smoked?

That’s true but the government had already borrowed heavily. Remember that unusually generous budget we had?

The budget is to tell everyone what they are going to do. Pretty sure they haven't spent the money yet and there will be another budget once this is sorted out.

    No mate

A ponzi scheme is where you get friends to buy a product at an inflated price

They then get their friends to do the same

    And so on

The govt are saying that for each person defying the locking  they are selling their product to others

So it's just like a govt ponzi scheme

Sorry I was just trying to make light of a terrible situation

Day 3 here, bored bored boredbored,I've never done nothing for a minimum of 3 weeks since about 1973 and that was the school holidays,in 1974 while still at school I got a summer job in a factory sweeping up so I could buy some amstrad lo fi

That's not really how a ponzi scheme works, but I get what you mean.

My Missus is a mental health practitioner, she is working from home.

She says that all the people she is treating at the moment are actually much more upbeat about their own situations at the moment due to all this which is a bit strange.

But bearing in mind people were being referred to the service by their GPs because of Brexit, I expect her workload to increase a lot over the next year or so....

The funny thing is the government are trying to sell us this ponzi scheme of numbers but if we did a similar thing they would do the math and send us to jail:lol:

I don't really understand what this means.

Are you saying that the Government are underestimating this?

When I was at school (best part of 50 years ago) we had a maths class about 'geometric progression'. The teacher told us a story about a wise man who went to work for a king. He asked to be paid each day in grains of rice on the squares of a chess board. On day 1 just 1 grain of rice. On day 2 put 2 grains of rice on the next square. On day 3 put 4 grains of rice. Every day doubling the number of grains of rice - 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and so on.  The king agreed. After 64 days (the number of squares on a chess board) the wise man was owed more than all the rice in the world and was able to take the king's kingdom from him.  That's geometric progression.

Corona virus spreads at the rate of about 2.5 new infections per infected person. That means one infected person could potentially lead to about 60000 infections after 10 days. Without lockdown this would lead to 70-80% of the population being infected - until herd immunity kicks in and the infection rate slows right down.  70% of 70 million people is around 50 million. If 10% need hospital then that's 5 million. If 2% die then that is 1.4 million deaths.  All happening over a couple of months. Unless you took radical action to slow things down you wouldn't be able to burn the bodies fast enough. This is way different to normal flu and doesn't remotely compare with smoking.

There is no way on Earth that Trump will open up by Easter. We are in for a long haul, 3 months lockdown and then restrictions for many more months until, hopefully, a vaccine is developed.

I said on a previous thread that 'failing to plan is planning to fail'. Back in January I read that some of the hardest hit businesses in China were car dealers because they were unable to trade and pay stocking loans. We started preparing about 4 weeks ago. Not buying anything and offloading cars where possible, maximising cash in the bank. We normally stock about 40 cars but now have just 11 cars at a covered secure storage site. Computers and anything of value removed from our premises. We spent quite a few days working on preparations for this and I think we can get through ok.

All your figures maybe accurate, but they are not really applicable here as we have movement restrictions in place, which for the moment we can all agree is the correct thing to do.

Trump says anything that comes into his mind, I am not defending him.

One thing I hate is the use of the phrase 'lockdown'.  This is not a 'lockdown'.

You are correct, this is not comparable to smoking as smoking is killing many more people every day.

The death rate halved yesterday, I am sure it will rise again today, and continue to rise over the next couple of weeks, but the massive problem with this virus is the fact that anyone who ends up in hospital needs help to breathe and we are short of machines that help this.

I'm not saying this isn't serious, but consider this.

My Mother-In-Law is in her 80s, she only stopped smoking when she was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. She is not being treated for her cancer. If she contracts this virus, she will undoubtedly die, it is unlikely that the NHS will even try to treat her because of her condition.  The press will say that the virus killed her. Did it?

Things like obesity and smoking are major factors in the outcome of this, is Piers Morgan banging on about us all getting fit?

I wont mention names of course as I'm too much of a gentleman:lol:

Yes, I massively underestimated the effect of the reaction to this, didn't see this coming at all....

But, I still stand by the death statistics. 1700 a day die in this country, we are up to maybe 80-100 a day now, which I know will rise but is still a tiny amount compared to the amount of people killed by smoking each year.  Not sure i've ever seen you saying anything about smoking being bad for us all and how we should all stop immediately.

A minimum of 50% of these people would have died anyway this year.

The main point, which I heard from someone much clever than me on the news earlier, is that if the UK economy contracts by more than 7% because of the partial shutdown, more people will die through poverty, than will be killed through the virus.

So the choice is, vulnerable people who are elderly and have underlying health conditions, or vulnerable people who are poor and also the destruction of the economy.

I think we can all see what the Chinese government has saved, and what Trump wants to do so he can have the Churches packed full of people for Easter....
