Classic real world cars that WILL go up in value
James Baggott replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
I'm going to stick with the French theme - Peugeot 106 Rallye. Mk1 and Mk2. I'd like one of both! -

Couldn't go straight in there with the XR2! Although that is going up. It's doubled in value since I've had it. I still don't think it'll ever quite reach the heights of a mint 205 GTi. I agree on the Renault 5 Turbo front though - would love one of those. I think good Saxo VTS models can't go much lower. There's a whole generation of owners that'll want to go back to them in the future... -
Classic real world cars that WILL go up in value
James Baggott posted a topic in General Dealer Chat
We love cars here at Car Dealer Magazine. So much so that we're constantly buying them. Recently I bought and restored this Peugeot 205 GTI 1.9. The chairman of the owners club told me one mint condition 205 GTI with 36k on the clock recently sold for more than £12,000. Which got me thinking - there must be quite a few 'sleeper' classic cars - those that are just on the precipice of becoming classics - that maybe worth buying now. The 205 has always had a cult following, but which cars do you think could rise in value soon? Apart from the Peugeot I'm throwing in Escort RS Cosworths to the mix... -
Thanks for liking the page! That's interesting because while I think links on Facebook are more 'in your face' than on Twitter, people surfing FB are mostly looking for updates on friends, not news. Twitter on the other hand is all about news - it's a news service for most - hence the click through rate is better for us. Interesting that it's the same for you too.

Standsrd of Paintwork Repairs
James Baggott replied to barriecrampton's topic in General Dealer Chat
I haven't dealt with Chips Away for some time - but I have used Revive. They're brilliant and the standard of their repairs is top class. They've done wheels and paintwork on my car and the repairs were invisible and they still are today -
2600 likes on Facebook is a superb achievement Phil! I often wonder what is worth investing more time in - which out of Facebook and Twitter delivers the most followers to our site as a result of links. So you know which works out better for you? For us it's without doubt Twitter - we engage with people a lot more on there than Facebook. And I prefer the way Twitter works - and that's it's completely open to all.

Standsrd of Paintwork Repairs
James Baggott replied to barriecrampton's topic in General Dealer Chat
That's true. Everyone wants speed. But there are some really good smart repair firms out there. It's interesting to hear that you guys suffer from different levels of service. I'm surprised there's no industry standard? -
Maybe it's about giving staff the power and trusting them to tweet on the behalf of dealers. I know many dealers worry about their reputation online and it's hard to let those fears go, but is saying slightly the wrong thing on Twitter worse than not being on Twitter at all?

DVLA and Plate Transfer problems
James Baggott replied to Andy Entwistle's topic in General Dealer Chat
I wonder what we could do to help this? Maybe pull the DVLA in for an interview. If there are enough dealers out there having problems - and we'll see with this forum - maybe we can then take that to the DVLA and see what we can get answers on -
When we launch this forum we've got an explosive piece of research that you guys will all find VERY interesting. It's been produced on this very topic and has some fascinating results. But you'll have to wait until we come out of Beta for that one...

Poor Batch - be nice to the young chap. He's stressing with deadline today. He's trying to get your favourite mag to the printers!

Totally agree Umesh. There are not enough Twitter users in the motor trade. Twitter has had the single biggest influence on our business - we pick up stories all day, every day from it. And we make contacts with new people. Just look at the beta testing of this forum - I only asked those I knew via Twitter. I think many dealers probably see it as a waste of time - but when they realise it's anything but that they'll dive in. We try, as a magazine, to shout about it as much as possible. I just think these things take time.

Standsrd of Paintwork Repairs
James Baggott replied to barriecrampton's topic in General Dealer Chat
I don't know. I've had some brilliant smart repairs done on my car. There are some really good firms out there doing it well - you can't tar all smart repairers with the same brush. The problem is some are a lot worse than others. If it wasn't for smart repairs my alloy wheels would look pretty bad... -

I'm looking forward to the Jaguar CX-17. It looked amazing at Frankfurt -

I think it has a lot to do with insurers screwing down the cost of repairs. Corners get cut... -
Standsrd of Paintwork Repairs
James Baggott replied to barriecrampton's topic in General Dealer Chat
I don't know Barrie. The work the team at Fix Auto UK did on the Project Peugeot restoration was superb. Someone at the manufacturer actually told me the respray was better than how the paint would have looked out of the factory! -

James Baggott replied to ChrisP's topic in General Dealer Chat
The Juke R really is amazing. That video was produced as part of a special feature we're publishing soon on Skunkworks cars, the models made as back-room projects. We had some really cool cars there that day, but the Juke R was one of my favourites. Fast SUVs seem to be here to stay - especially now Audi is heading down the RS Q route... -
What do you chaps think the rest of the year holds? Some car bosses we speak to are worried that next year will be flat...

Wait until you see the next issue of Car Dealer Mag. The ST plays *some* role in our Road Test of the Year feature...
