On the other hand i tend to use two local family businesses for fuel  . But the twice i used the bp ultimate and shell v power diesel both separate cars  broke down maybe just coincidence but got me thinking one was the secondary pump in the tank the other was a broken drive belt   .

Hope you weren’t mixing chip fat with diesel Caspar...Do you recall that was a trend about 15 years ago.I think it was promoted by BBC on some consumer  ‘ helpfull hints ‘ programme !

Thats nuts. 100 cars = 5 grand. I've got a mazda going out in 15 minutes. Fuel light isnt just on, its flashing. I don't want a call 2 minutes after he's left saying its run out, so, being the generous soul I am, Ive just got a fuel can out of the shed and put half in. That'll get him to Asda.

I agree,£50 ? if you employ people how much of that would get milked or put in jerry cans at source. As for sending punters to Asda,we posted disclaimers around our premises about using supermarket ‘spot market fuel ‘ after a bad batch caused thousands of seized engines about 10 years ago.

They used to mint them up to sell them........ then rather than minting them up they started declaring all faults at the block........ then 6 or 7 years ago they started auctioning them like everyone else by declaring sweet f.a.!

I had some good do’s years ago out of ex-service cars, they were cheap & the public loved them - especially fluorescent yellow ex-NHS Focuses! Now it’s a lottery buying them, they ain’t cheap & the Average Joe doesn’t want them.

NHS yellow Focus Estates, never had those but I would imagine they would make good Hartlepool taxis.

Seems a little daft this time round .

Work together , go to the pub till 10pm

But its illegal to have my 90 yr old mum round for dinner twice a week .

Work with my son and daughter but see them at their home . Sons building a wall so I'm the builder apparently .

So unless you register your house as a B&B with dinner gong and a small bar,you could get fined 10 grand as a business !

Just to be clear Mr pendragon, promoting a scrappage scheme for the car industry only supports new car business, not us used car traders?

Good point MC,you would think he would know that considering he is spending £70m shuttering all the Pendragon purpose built used car sites to be replaced by new build mega sites. It was reported he wants to take on Cazoo but cannot be right as Pendragon is many times bigger than Cazoo.

When new CEO’s are parachuted in to save PLC’s it does help that they put their money where their mouth is and buy a significant shareholding. From what I can see shareholders are still waiting for Mr Burman to do that.

Very hard work listening to the geordie accent.  Apart from that sounded like fairy stories selling 40 police cars a week. If he sold so many , why not now. What's name of his garage? Talks bull

Thank you Taz,what make are you by the way.....I did say Police Authorities changed their disposal policy in 99.All questions welcomed if you were unable to understand.

Another guy just rang said "ay up pal got my car going in this week for work then selling it , anyway I can wait till next wednesday to collect your car I've seen" .

Transpires he wants 14k on Finance too , so I said yes my friend I'll send you the deal , BOOM he auto accepts too . sends me £1,890 online deposit and I await to meet him next week .

    Two in one day

Just got to replace the bloody cars now though :rolleyes:oh well soon be Monday .

He was treated like that he said , covered in tattoos all over , but a really nice young lad when I met him . cant judge a book as they say .

When I was signing up some roughish but friendly likely lad on chucky and you think he will never get accepted. Then you ask their occupation and they would say ‘scaffolder , steel erector ,I’m on the riggs or self employed Ready Mix Concrete driver you knew they would fly through.

  8. Blast from the distant past. There is always a chance that a  ‘ sharp ‘ auctioneer in cahoots with a trader might be operating the old.’ bounce out’ ruse. That is when stuff with a lower reserve gets quickly  ‘trotted up ‘ and bounced through unsold. It is then flogged after the sale for ‘ reserve ‘ which keeps the vendor happy. The car is then re entered and gets sold for proper money..........surely not !

I noticed that Manheim are going to offer pre booked slots to inspect cars prior to purchase. They've nicked that idea from Copart. But I wonder how that's going to work, I wonder how many 'slots' they'll have available in a day?

If it works they will probably charge.

  10. The way the online prices are going,it might be the contrarian buyers ( ungraded and grade 5 stuff ) that will score.Another thought,I think being an auction grading officer might prove to be a lucrative job ( know what I mean Harry ? )

While online cars are far too expensive  has anyone seen the price of commercials, several thousand over book !

  11. What was that Manheim / Cox Automotive guy with the corporate jargon called who used to post on here   ( until we pissed him off ).Get in touch with him.He had some contrived title like ‘global head of blue sky thinking ‘ or something.

Hi all, just trying to gauge what methodology people use when pricing up cars from private.

How do you calculate your drop dead price that you won't go over.

Does anyone use the AT private as a guide?

Would you mind introducing yourself and telling us about your business first please.

  16. Is there not an alternative like a sale and lease back deal.Would the lady not prefer to remain living where she is rent free.So if there is going to be £100k negative at the end of the term and the property is worth a lot more, can she not sell to an investor. The investor pays £100k and she signs over the property in return for a long term tenancy agreement based on Housing Benefit current levels which presently brings in about £450 per month. So the investor gets 5% return which I doubt they can get elsewhere without taking some risk.As the property is worth more ,does that not add up for the investor and for the tenant who will be rent and council tax free.Does that make sense or not.

BTW Dave good photy but that Cossie does not look straight ( if there was such a thing ) or is it an XR4.The wheels don’t look right to me.

Isn't it just a sign of the times? At the moment, all I've had is messers and dreamers no matter what I'm selling.

They seem to come in waves, possibly sat bored, planning on wasting time over the long bank holiday weekend. Roll on next couple of weeks

Ha Ha,sign of the times. You are in the wrong job,why not get into selling small boxes of vegetables with a recipe sheet on line and charging £40......Sorry,forget that, too many already doing it.

Any car can be taxed nothing to do with a V5 or not and works even if not in trade etc.
so you can buy stuff with no V5 no problem.

I was told some guy on Bookface with a post office who goes under Road TaxTommy or something will tax anything for a £15 fee.( don’t do Bookface ) Good if you are buying Black Horse repos with no docs and not in the trade.

Refund fully and move on you've said you would by the above .. next time if you know its ok say your 100 percent confident the car is fine as all your cars are workshop prepared to high standard though you will have if checked for piece of mind and that if course if she not happy you will refund the deposit minus £100 for the  customer preparation package which is non refundable for you to take the car off sale as if they choose not to buy you have to prepare the car have a resanitised valet afterwards  and have prep and advertising costs . Although of course she is welcome to go away and think it over but the car will remain on sale until then

Although I tend to agree with you the daughter just simply didn't like the car my thinking is she wanted a brand new car or nearly new one and mum said no so daughter is making up faults with yours to get mum to change her mind

in all honesty I think you have dodged a bullet there it would be back ever week with this or that wrong which of course it isn't it there just looking for there money back

keep us updated hope it all works out in the end .

Ha Ha Casper, you will be right, the daughter was expecting a new one ! Most of us would have recognised that within 2 mins of meeting them. Its all part of the learning process for a newbie ,just another set back Daz,coping with set backs is a major part of the job.
