rich89 11 Posted August 20, 2018 I bought a car for a film shoot 2 weeks ago which has been sorned since 2016. It has a nice dateless plate on it that I want but is there a way for it to come to me rather than the previous keeper as it's been 'in the trade' since March 2016. Obviously I can tax and register it in my name but i'd rather not if possible.
Dave2302 387 Posted August 21, 2018 IIRC you can't do it if it's been in trade, only an un broken sorn

Zest 7 Posted August 22, 2018 not sure what the dvla think of this, but I've noticed if some people in the trade want to tax a car that's not in their name they just use the number on the green slip to do it, and when it comes to selling it they tell billy it's taxed for now, keep an eye on MID and tax it again once you receive the v5 in your name. Not sure if it'll help in this case, but if the car being taxed is enough to get the plate off, then you could do this?
Dave2302 387 Posted August 22, 2018 What has MID got to do with Tax ?? I'm sure the DVLA wouldn't care, they will be getting paid twice for the same month, and once they cancel the original tax, then the PO will get the refund !! I persume this would be using and cancelling Direct debit, otherwise the persons doing so would be paying a 6 month minimum !! presume even still no edit button
umesh 336 Posted August 22, 2018 I took a plate off a car which had been on sorn for 3 years a couple of years back, DVLA Told me as it was the same owner they would allow it and did so, not sure if the rules have changed since.
