Philip Nothard 26 Posted October 30, 2014 How much does the colour itself influence the price to you pay and subsequently retail a used car for in today's market? If you take the Ford Focus as the example, would you pay a difference price for a Black which covers 12% of the cars sold, over Red, which accounts for 5%? Then what about when it comes to the differences between a Black Zetec compared to a Black Titanium X? I accept that it would be relative to the age and mileage, and that models such as the STs will perform differently, as an Orange ST-3 will attract more than an Orange Zetec S (if you see one :-))
Sensei 12 Posted October 31, 2014 I always prefer a darker colour car to buy as Grey black Silver Pepper red etc ... i find these have always been popular with customers as white gold or green ive find struggle .. i agree with what you say about the Focus ST in orange whereas as the Focus RS Mk1 was only in one colour of Performance blue .. but this again is clever marketing and also to the cars resale value as for example the Mk1 Focus RS as now become sought after in the collectors field just as the Escort RS turbo series 1 only in white back in the 1980s as for todays market i would pay extra for a darker colour as i know that would i all factors sell quicker than say a white car in the same spec/mileage even if my profit margins would be slightly lower as id rather have that car sold quicker than waiting around taking up space
janeleonard 0 Posted November 1, 2014 Color of cars are something more important and they detemine the asssoicated cost of it. Make sure the cars have a good color tone to help in the sales.
Wheelerdealer1 91 Posted November 1, 2014 I stay away from yellow or green cars, or any sports cars in Wierd colours, ford did special edition yellow in the focus and puma Also those Wierd colour change chameleons style of the old TVR, they also came on some rovers and micras believe it or not ! Sensei 12 Posted November 1, 2014 Ford focus Millenium .. what a disgusting yellow! Must admit though im a Ford RS man and have one in storage .. and when Carlos Sainz won the Monte Carlo rally in 1995 for did 200 escort cosworths to celebrate in Mallard green or Jewel violet .. the story goes that they had a limited time to produce them and thier was 6 remaining on the production floor when the deadline expired so they would now have to be crushed etc .. but the director of ford motorsport said spray then ash black which was not part of the programme little did he know what he was doing as to find one of the 6 ash black ones is the so called rocking horse etc and be ready to pay £5K to £10K on top for the pleasure if you did as thier is 6 out thier somewhere or was ..
Wheelerdealer1 91 Posted November 1, 2014 A man with great taste sir! Unfortunately I didn't store away any of my fast fords! One of my big regrets, but at least I had them and enjoyed them at the time I did keep my old 80s 911 turbo in storage and just sold it last year, for a fair sum I couldn't have imagined though how much these fords would be worth back then though! Sensei 12 Posted November 1, 2014 An old Skool 80,911 thats a nice piece of vintage champange .. just dont see them nowdays :-( Ive got a 1995 small turbo Escort cosworth in ash black in storage shes only got 31K on the clock but totally standard as thats where the value is,, i did have a mint Saff with 40K but like yourself sold it as the price was good .. your perfectly right about imagining the prices now as MK1 MK2 RS fords are crazy money and with RS500,s hitting £40K plus .. the problem is they have just become mantle piece motors like an art collection an very rarely see the road only the secure storage which i myself admit .. yes a car is only worth what anyone is willing to pay for it but thier will always be a market for these cars and many others like try finding an immaculate Lotus Carlton sub 20K on the clock ... now thats another story .. and another bank loan .. :-)
Wheelerdealer1 91 Posted November 2, 2014 I know the market can seem crazy at times, who pays £20,000 for an escort you might think, but there are serious collectors out there, and it's like buying a scale model to them, my 911 went to China of all places! Do you watch chasing Classic cars on discovery channel? The dealer on there gives great insights into how these markets develop A ferrari on the last program was bought by the the owner for $16,000 years back, they took it to auction and got $25 million for it! That's a hell of an investment!
GreenGiant 287 Posted November 3, 2014 Sensei, my friend, the Spelling and Grammar Police will be coming for you... Incorrect usage of 'there', 'their' and 'they're' always gets the hackles rising, but to invent a random new one (thier?!) will unleash the beast I fear.
