how does one get in with the finance houses and banks etc?

Be cautious with these so called 'repossessed' vehicles, a lot of them are actually lemons, advertised as repossessed as its more profitable than telling the truth that the gearbox is gone, head gasket blown, engine blown, etc.

Been down that route myself, might of been unlucky but for every one decent one you buy you'll buy another 2 duds

Sounds like you have bought from a middle man and got stitched up.

im wondering how you can buy direct from source, or do insurers / finance houses exclusively send to auction or are the guys claiming they purchase the vehicles from finance houses telling porkies?

Middle man or no middle man a lot of the vehicles are lemons. Another factor to consider is why has the customer not paid the debt on the car and got it back?? I know there are some who simply can't afford to pay the debt on the vehicle. But there are a lot who know the vehicle is fu**ed and its not worth paying the debt.

I've bought from auction houses claiming the vehicles are coming straight from the baillifs/finance houses/insurers etc, even had the bailiff repossession sticker on drivers window. Last one was a merc sprinter, was running fine at the auction house, after about 20 mins of driving it back the van started overheating, head gasket gone! It had been patched up to get through the auction.

For me it just wasn't worth the hassle but good luck with it if you give it a try.

if they cant afford to run the vehicle you can bet your last rolo that it hasnt been looked after, there is quite a few of them going through our local auction at the moment and they bring not far of a decent main dealer part x confuses the life out of me why someone would bother

WHY Would you want to get involved? - as already said , there is ALWAYS a story behind majority of these cars! Keep away would be my advice.

DVLA seized vehicles are auctioned through here and can be cheap. But, bear in mind they have been seized for no tax so there's usually a reason why they've been parked up / not taxed. Still, a cheap source of vehicles if you don't mind work

if you do a dvla mot check of those cars that have been seized you quite often find no mot for years or worse lots of serviceable item failures

me? i stopped buying seized cars years ago after i bought an astra estate and found it had  plants growing out of the carpets,ok serves me right for sticking my hand up but it cured me

if they get it seized they know its was going to go sooner or later so will rag em and not spend a penny,often they have lots of petrol cans in the boot and maccy dee wrappers under the seats

Depends what you want to do with them. In a previous business we used to break and sell cars so non-runners (including repo etc) were our bread and butter, if they ran and could be made good then they sold, if not then they fell to pieces. All the major auction houses do non-runner sales as far as i'm aware.

As said though, a lot of genuine repossessions can be found with major problems hence people not paying the monthly on them.
