smltd 3 Posted July 4, 2023 Has anyone on here received fines or bailiffs visits for cars they had nothing to do with? My friend received a phone call today from a guy saying that he clamped down a car that is registered under his company’s name and that he has to pay a fine or he’ll get a visit from the bailiffs. Is this a scam or do this things happen? Can DVLA confirm that the car was never in trade with him or registered on his company? Any advice greatly appreciated. It's me 615 Posted July 5, 2023 Are you saying that a car has been registered to your friend unbeknown to him? If the answer is yes then the police need to be informed, this happens a lot where expensive cars are registered to known name and address in an affluent area so they can be insured reasonably and without causing a red flag so there's no ping on police anpr, usually by drug dealers and or gansters Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

He was given a reference number which hopefully can be used to challenge the fine or a bailiffs visit. The car is registered on his company’s name but at a completely different address. trade vet 702 Posted July 6, 2023 This sort of thing has occurred for years. Wheel clamping on private land is now illegal.wheel clamping on public land by Police ,Councils and DVLA is allowed.
